Obama catches 7 fishes; feeds the entire East Coast with an 'Economic Miracle'

Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts -- Pres. Barack Obama made good use of day three of his summer vacation, catching seven "nice size" striped bass off the coast of this ocean island.

But what happened next is being called by some "the economic miracle of 21st-century." As the president's charter fishing boat pulled up to the dock, he ordered his security disciples to clean the fishes and provide "lunch for America."

Witnesses of the president's generosity saw the catch being divided first on Martha's Vineyard, then on the Massachusetts' mainland, in Boston, in New York, in Washington, and all the way down the East Coast to Miami.

Miraculously, the millions who feasted on the fish reported that their meals were cooked impeccably and in the style that they most enjoyed.

"I didn't think that striped bass could be prepared in so many different ways," said Gordon Ramsay, renowned chef and reality TV personality. "There was sushi, chowder, fish sticks, fish and chips, striped bass sandwiches, striped bass egg foo young -- the list is as endless as it is delicious."

Asked if the president might be invited to participate in his Master Chef television program, Ramsey replied: "I realize it is a major miracle to serve up lunch for 150 million diners, but the president's plating skills can use some work."

Congressional Republicans were even more critical of Obama's actions. "This was a cheap parlor trick, and as soon as we find out how it was done, we're going to do it too," said John Boehner (R-Ohio). "We've been trying to reach The Almighty all morning."

"Trying to reach God?" a reporter asked.

"No, Michele Bachmann," Boehner said. "We want her campaign to fund a survey which will show that seafood's approval rating is declining rapidly in America. Then, we'll do steak for our miracle."

The president, meanwhile, hinted that blue fish could be tomorrow's lunch special for the East Coast. "The critics accused me of goofing off by taking this vacation. Now Is The Summer Of My Discontent

Two nice days back to back and summer is officially here. This just shows how desperately I to cling to the notion that the winter is finally over; though deep down I fear that there is one more cold snap lurking. There are two times that I have moved to Los Angeles, both after long, arduous, bitter winters. First in 1989, returning five years later and then again in 1998 until 2003. New York is a great city to live and a great city to leave. It’s a long story, not for now. My point is that summer is here. It is time to make some plans for when I write, “What I did this summer”. Somewhere in April, I swore off New York City again and began planning to head out west, but am I going to do that again? Need to think, need to think. One thing I know, is that neither the Hamptons nor Fire Island will be my destination of choice this season. The New York Times Style has laid out all the best of the new Hamptons hot spots as well as a feature story on the commercial overhaul taking place on Fire Island Pines by Andrew Kirtzman. Just to date me, my favorite summers in The Pines were 1977-1981, pre-AIDS, when one would waft along the boardwalk and bump into Margeaux Hemingway stoned and Calvin Klein’s house dripped with stunning blond beauties. After all, that was the best of times for New York City, when chic was an adjective, not a noun.

If I were a socialite in the Hamptons, I would be fatoozted as to where to go, which dinner to attend, art opening to swing by, club to drink at, home to visit. The pressure must be mind boggling. As for Fire Island, though extricating the Bohemian grunge might make the needy Baby Boomers off-spring happy, it surely will lose the je ne sais quoi that it once had. Seeing Halston on the rickety steps of the old Pavilion, chatting with a lanky group of Burrow-ettes in flowing, silk caftans will forever best a group of shirtless muscle queens, teeth grinding. One can expect the malling of The Pines, while the Bright Young Things of the Hamptons will be fabulous twenty four hours a day. These reasons that make it hard for someone like me to find peace of mind out East. Perhaps this summer I will find a meditative quiet here in New York City, discovering old places and shops that otherwise have been forgotten. After all, there is no place like home.

Obama Fiddles While Fukushima Burns

History tells us that Nero fiddled while Rome burned, but Barack Obama is providing the famous emperor with some serious competition when it comes to going AWOL while America and the world face crises the likes of which haven’t been experienced in decades.
Even as the situation at the stricken Fukushima nuclear plant continues to worsen by the hour, and as radiation surges across the Pacific towards the U.S. west coast while Americans panic buy supplies of potassium iodide, President Obama seems remarkably sanguine about the whole affair.
While protests and civil wars rage in Libya and Bahrain, Obama is keeping himself busy by videotaping his NCAA tournament picks, hitting the golf course for the 61st time in his presidency, and partying with lawmakers during a Chicago Bulls vs. Charlotte Bobcats game.
The most energy Obama could bother to devote to what is fast coming one of the biggest nuclear disasters in history was to make an empty statement about how people could donate to usaid.gov, while labeling the NCAA exercise a “great diversion.”
While Japan begs the United States for help to rescue the dire situation at Fukushima, Obama seems more concerned about dressing up nicely to please the media elite at the annual Gridiron Dinner.
Even as the planet faces the threat of a “new Chernobyl on steroids,” Obama has chosen to prioritize a speech about “Women’s History Month,” a White House get-together on “bullying” and a meeting with the Chicago Blackhawks instead of offering any kind of leadership.
But forget Japan, it’s not as if Obama hasn’t got any matters to attend to on the home front, with gas prices surging as a result of an oil spike driven by turmoil in the middle east, as well as a massive budget crisis, not to mention the perilous state of the US dollar and the stuttering economy.
Obama’s fiddling has made the crucial deceision of whether or not to impose a no fly zone over Libya all but academic, with Colonel Gaddafi taking the opportunity to use the delay to crush rebel opponents in key regions.
“But the fun stuff won’t end anytime soon,” writes veteran White House reporter Keith Koffler, who accuses the President of succumbing to “childish distractions” while the world is afire. “On Thursday, the Taoiseach of Ireland will be in town to help the president celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. And then Friday it’s off to Brazil for the start of a three-country Latin American tour.
Granted, Obama is not superman and nobody expects him to act as some kind of omnipotent savior, but the remarkable regularity with which Obama goes AWOL when crises hit not just globally but also in America has become characterisitic of his whole presidency.
Lest we forget that during the course of the devastating BP oil spill crisis, Obama took no less than three vacations, disappearing from public view at the very height of the drama when Americans were desperate for a leader.
Obama’s behavior exemplifies the fact that he is a completely hollow sock-puppet of a president. After being billed as an icon for hope, change and fresh leadership as America sought to reclaim its global reputation, Obama has been nothing but a crushing disappointment and a massive failure.
The whole farce reminds us once again that Obama, like George W. Bush before him, controls absolutely nothing, has no influence on world affairs, and has now stopped even bothering to maintain the pretense that he is anything other than an obedient yes-man whose role comprises of nothing more than following orders from the Wall Street and banking elite that have pulled his strings from the very beginning.
