Court papers say the woman charged in the 2002 abduction of Elizabeth Smart has reached an agreement with prosecutors and is expected to plead guilty in federal court on Tuesday.
The court papers do not specify the terms of the agreement or which charge or charges Wanda Eileen Barzee will plead to.
A spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney's office says she cannot comment beyond what is contained in the court papers filed Monday with the U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City.
oth Brian David Mitchell and Barzee, Mitchell's estranged wife, were indicted on federal kidnapping charges in March 2008.
Smart was taken from her Salt Lake City home at knifepoint in 2002. She was found nine months later with Barzee and Mitchell on a suburban street.
Last month, Smart testified as part of Mitchell's competency hearing that she was raped repeatedly each day after she was abducted from her bedroom seven years ago. She said she was told she would be killed if she yelled or tried to escape.
She described Mitchell, her alleged kidnapper, as "evil, wicked, manipulative, stinky, slimy, selfish, not spiritual, not religious, not close to God."Court papers say the woman charged in the 2002 abduction of Elizabeth Smart has... more

Crystel Strelioff sentenced on four counts of felony child abduction.
The father said Crystel was sentenced to the maximum of three years on each count, but they run concurrently and in Illinois, where she is serving time, prisoners can be released after 50% of the sentence is served. Because the child abductor already served about six months of her sentence, she may be released in a year.
This case is shameful. The mother tricked protective parent organizations such as Justice for Children into spending their time and other resources on a sham case. The father underwent extensive testing voluntarily and the children did not give convincing accounts of any abuse by the father, according to court documents. Worse, the children seemed to the evaluators to have been coached, meaning they suffered verbal and emotional sexual abuse by the people who coached them.~y2009m11d7-Crystel-Strelioff-sentenced-to-12-years-for-abducting-children

JACKSONVILLE, FL – A housewife in Florida is being charged with faking her own kidnapping!
37-year-old Quinn Gray was abducted and held captive for four days over Labor Day weekend. A ransom note in her handwriting appeared on the door to her $4 million home, that read:
“There are three men holding me right now, and they want $50,000 cash. Stay at the house NO COPS! Keep your cell phone on you. Keep the kids with you. Please do this honey, please!”
However, police soon found the case to be much more complicated than a simple kidnapping. The manager of the hotel where she was eventually found and arrested at said she “didn’t seem to be in distress at all.”
Prosecutors also have a 90-minute audiotape of the sounds of Gray and her kidnapper, 25-year-old Jasmin Osmanovic, having sex, and then planning the details of her fake kidnapping!
Osmanovic told police he and Gray had met at the gas station he works at, and began a six-week relationship, which included meetings at her home. Gray even gave him a house key and the house’s security codes.
However, Gray’s lawyers are telling a different story. They state that Gray, with a long history of psychiatric problems, was taken advantage of. Their defense is that Gray, in the midst of a manic phase of her bipolar disorder, was coerced and taken advantage of by Osmanovic.
Gray is currently at a psychiatric facility in Georgia, while Osmanovic is behind bars. Her husband, Reid Gray, is standing by her side.JACKSONVILLE, FL – A housewife in Florida is being charged with faking her own... more
In a landmark case, twenty-three Americans, mostly CIA operatives, have been convicted in Italy for kidnapping a Muslim cleric from the streets of Milan in 2003. They were all tried in absentia after the United States refused to hand them over. The convictions turn them into international fugitives who risk arrest abroad. The case marks the first time any American has been convicted for taking part in a so-called “extraordinary rendition.” We go to Rome to speak with the Italian prosecutor who brought the case, Armando Spataro, and get comment from international law and human rights attorney Scott Horton. You could say Judge Herman Thomas was a rising star. He was a popular black Democrat in mostly white and Republican Mobile County, Alabama, which is like a Jew being elected Grand Marshal of the Hezbollah 4th of July Parade. President Clinton even nominated him to the federal bench.
Thomas was the kind of judge who went the extra mile to rehabilitate inmates. He'd meet with them privately in his chambers, and would intervene in sentencing even if the case wasn't in his court room. But admirers seemed to have confused rampant sexual thirst for helpfulness...
Word of his unusual practices first arose in 2001, when an inmate filed
suit claiming Thomas had agreed to help him in exchange for sex. But
the inmate was deemed, well, an untrustworthy inmate, and the suit was
dismissed.
Thomas reputation was quickly restored, and he remained popular with the electorate. But that changed six years later, when he was accused of bringing male inmates to his chambers, asking them to pull down their pants, then spanking them with a paddle. This wasn't the kind of spanking practiced by middle school principals prior to the 1980s. This was hot man-on-man action, a practice not highly regarded in the ranks of the Alabama judiciary.
Thomas resigned as an ethics investigation was launched. But as detectives dug further, they found they had a total creep on their hands. Last spring, he was indicted by a grand jury for sodomy, kidnapping, sex abuse, extortion and assault. It seems the good judge was a full-on sexual predator. You could say Judge Herman Thomas was a rising star. He was a popular black Democrat... more

"Kidnapping has overtaken burglaries, robberies, car theft and other crimes to become the biggest criminal activity in many areas of Baghdad. Insurgents and gangsters are increasingly using abducted children to raise funds for terrorism operations and personal wealth.
These days, money has become the main motive for kidnappers, unlike the period of civil unrest in Baghdad in 2006 and 2007 when people were being captured and killed for sectarian reasons, according to Brigadier-General Faisal Malik Mohsin, the commander of the Iraqi Federal Police’s al-Rasheed district in southwest Baghdad. Women are playing a greater role in the kidnappings because they are less likely to rouse suspicion, he said. TOKYO, Japan (CNN) -- Had this parental abduction drama played out in the United States, Christopher Savoie might be re-united with his two little children, after snatching them back from an ex-wife who defied the law and ran off with them.
A Tennessee court awarded Christopher Savoie custody of his son, Isaac, and daughter, Rebecca.
A Tennessee court awarded Christopher Savoie custody of his son, Isaac, and daughter, Rebecca.
But this story unfolds 7,000 miles away in the Japanese city of Fukuoka, where the U.S. legal system holds no sway.
And here, Savoie sits in jail, charged with the abduction of minors. And his Japanese ex-wife -- a fugitive in the United States for taking his children from Tennessee -- is considered the victim.
