Baghdad -- The United States military today is celebrating a major win in Iraq. American troops are heading home after setting the world record for the longest and most expensive stop and frisk in the history of law enforcement.
“It seems like only yesterday that the United States pulled over Iraq on suspicion of possession of Weapons of Mass Destruction,” said President Obama. “Little did anyone realize that just 8 years and $1 trillion later we would be celebrating a world record together.”
The new record was solidified yesterday after US forces detained and searched the 32,030,823th Iraqi, and declared him clean.
US Army Major Tom Humphries marked a check on his clipboard and announced: “That’s it, everybody. We’ve patted down every last one of them. We are the stop and search champions of the world.”
Cpl. Jake Shronk of the 22nd Battalion is credited with completing the final strip search. “We did find some interesting things in his pockets,” Shronk said. “He had a nice stack of Ayatollah trading cards, an application for a New York City hack license, and a form letter from British Petroleum, offering to buy the drilling rights to his rec room.”
Humphries noted that the troops would be rewarded for their world record-setting performance with high-paying, prestigious jobs when they return to the United States.
“The experience they’ve accumulated in Iraq makes them uniquely qualified for the position of TSA Inspection Agent,” Humphries said. “The TSA will welcome the reinforcements. I hear that some of those arthritic grandmas can get pretty surly.”
Of course, the larger question remains: just where are those Weapons of Mass Distraction?
“I believe you’ll find them in missile silos sited across the USA,” Humphries said. “Safe and sound and in the capable hands of our elected officials.”Baghdad -- The United States military today is celebrating a major win in Iraq.... more

Smokey, a British house cat, has roared, or rather purred, her way into the Guinness Book of World Records. The New York Daily News reports that Smokey, a white tabby, can purr like a "lawnmower" at levels up to 73 decibels, 16 times louder than the average feline though a bit "softer" than blue whales, which are the loudest animals on earth with a low-frequency pulse of 188 decibels.
Sounds like this cat's purr is a lot bigger than, um, her paw?
The New York Daily News says that Smokey actually sounds more like a "cooing dove." As owner Ruth Adams writes on www.smokeythepurringcat.com, a website devoted to the "outspoken" feline:
Smokey is quite possibly the worlds loudest purring cat and is louder than a boeing 737 coming into land!
The only time purr-producing Smokey is quiet is when she is asleep. “She even manages to purr while she eats” comments owner Ruth.
It was back in February that Smokey first attracted notice after she won a local competition for "most powerful purr." A local community college submitted the results to Guinness and the rest is, yes, history. Smokey is now in the Guinness Book of World Records for having achieved the "loudest purr by a domestic cat at 67.7 dB (LA peak)."

Michelangelo created the Sistine Chapel in four years, it took the Cubes Work Studio only 400 hours.
Eleven puzzle addicts got together and for a period of just over two weeks re-created Michelangelo's Hand of God using a record breaking 12,090 Rubik's cubes.
They had to twist each Rubix cube to get the colours just right. They took the image off of the computer but the colours and shading were difficult to identify because of the quality of the image.
So Josh Chalom, the creative director made sure they "restored the piece so Adam didn't look like he just came out of a tanning salon and God didn't look so red that he resembled his arch-rival."

Woah, this is one very tall tree. Nine years ago, it was the tallest known plant in the world.
It's 369 feet high. That's about twice the size of the Statue of Liberty (minus the foundation). I like this tree. The people who discovered it have never revealed its true location, which is somewhere in Humboldt Redwoods State Park. And though it's got a nickname, "Stratosphere Giant," it is no longer the giant. It's been trumped.
After its short four-year reign as World's Tallest, two hikers, Chris Atkins and Michael Taylor, were deep in another section of another park, Redwood National Park (purchased in 1978 during the Carter administration) when they came across a new stand of trees, taller than anyone had ever seen before. The tallest of the tall is 379 feet 4 inches, 10 feet taller than the Giant. It's now called "Hyperion."
We have the precise measurements because after Chris and Michael announced their discovery, a team of scientists, led by Humboldt State University ecologist Steve Sillett, climbed to the top of the tree and dropped a tape down to the ground. Some things are still that simple. Steve's colleague, Jim Spickler (check out his biceps! scary), repeated the climb and brought a camera, so we can go with him. This video, which comes with dramatic music in all the right places, is, to use a much overused word, but I'll use it anyway..."awesome":
Once again, no one is telling where the new champ is located. People will want to see it, photograph it, climb it, carve little souvenirs out of it. Trees, says Steve Sillett, are not like people. They "cannot run away from paparazzi." He asked us not to even mention the nickname, "Hyperion," but I figure the nickname gives away nothing. Anyway, the Who's Biggest title keeps changing.Woah, this is one very tall tree. Nine years ago, it was the tallest known plant in... more

Librarian Graham Barker, has just made a world record in collecting lint from his belly button. In an interview he said he was not obsessive, but just put the fluff in a jar when going to have a shower and over the years it built up (ew)
"Mr Barker said the amount of fluff he collects each day depends on what clothes he has been wearing - with thermal underwear being the most 'productive'.
He added: 'I found that having a shower tends to wash away any lint, so the logical time to collect is just before getting in the shower each evening"-Metro
He stated he might stuff a cushion with the fluff, but I think a jumper or maybe glue them on a card for friends at Christmas would be ideal (and horrifying)Librarian Graham Barker, has just made a world record in collecting lint from his... more
