Trace Crutchfield, gonzo purist and world traveler, is infamous for reporting from exotic locations such as the Favelas of Sao Paolo to the shoe closet of Imelda Marcos for VBS, Superdeluxe and MTV. His latest stop: VC2 producer and Current correspondent at the DNC.
The summer of 2008's Republican and Democratic Conventions offer an opportunity for Current TV to launch a new brand of political coverage aimed at the 18-30 year old demographic. Political gadflies in lock step with Party foot soldiers will swarm Denver and Minneapolis looking for a refuge to pull together shaky party unities. But will the distractions prove too tempting to conventioneers immersed in the political super bowls of their lives? And will the host cities be as welcoming as each local Party officials hope?
Host, Trace Crutchfield will alternate interviewing politicos and local "insurgents" (extremists who plan to cause disruptions) with a detailed City Guide that explores the fringes of each town --beautiful fashionistas, marginalized characters and locals only joints-- the kinds of people and places Current's audience won't find in a conventional or online guide.
Show 1, "UnConventionally Yours, Denver" will delve into the mile high city. Will the wild westerners of Denver prove too tough for out of town Democrats gassed on sparkling wine and arugula? Can the Democrats resuscitate the Clinton squeaky wheel political machine in time to carry Senator Obama to the White House? Does Tom Tancredo ride the city bus?Trace Crutchfield, gonzo purist and world traveler, is infamous for reporting from... more

If mass arrests happen at the Democratic Convention, those taken into custody will be jailed in a warehouse owned by the City of Denver. Investigator Rick Sallinger discovered the location and managed to get inside for a look.
The newly created lockup is on the northeast side of Denver. Protesters have already given this place a name: "Gitmo on the Platte."
Inside are dozens are metal cages. They are made out of chain link fence material and topped by rolls of barbed wire.

Two times more Coloradans have already requested tickets to see Barack Obama's acceptance speech at Invesco Field at Mile High than tickets available, officials announced today.
More than 60,000 requests from Colorado have been received for the 30,000 seats, and the campaign is setting up a waiting list.
"This incredible response and excitement shows that there is a huge appetite for change in Colorado," Anne Filipic, the general-election director for the Campaign for Change, said in a statement.
Coloradans can request to be placed on the waitlist online at co.barackobama.com/invesco or by stopping by a Campaign for Change office, officials said. Two times more Coloradans have already requested tickets to see Barack Obama's... more

Former Vice President Al Gore praised the left-leaning bloggers of Netroots Nation on Saturday as being at the forefront of reclaiming American democracy and urged the activists to mobilize for global climate protection.
“Thank you for the movement that you have created,” Gore said. “I can’t tell you how important I think it is that you continue what you are doing.”
Gore and Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi addressed the bloggers’ convention and took questions from the crowd on the environment, education and the war in Iraq. Netroots Nation is in Austin for its annual meeting of about 2,000 bloggers and political organizers.
Much of Pelosi’s time at the convention was spent speaking out for an end to the war and for the election of Democrat Barack Obama as president. Pelosi said she and fellow House Democrats have repeatedly called for a U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq.
“The end could be in sight,” she said to cheers from the audience. “This will not happen without the election of Barack Obama as president of the United States.”
Gore was billed as a “surprise” guest for Pelosi’s Saturday morning session. He repeated his familiar message of combatting global warming and said the seriousness of the climate problem is related to the economic and security crises of America’s dependence on foreign oil.
Recent Republican calls to battle rising oil prices with more drilling is “absurd” and a bit like the old hangover cure known as the “hair of the dog,” or having another drink, Gore said.
“Oh, let’s just try to go back for more,” Gore said facetiously. “When you’re in a hole, stop digging.”
Gore said he is trying to enlist 10 million grassroots environmental activists and asked the online organizers for help in doing it. He advocated moving all energy production to renewable sources, such as wind, solar and geothermal, within 10 years.
Pelosi said she supports that effort. Pelosi added she is working with evangelical activists on the common goals of protecting the environment and helping the poor.
“The economics of renewables are becoming very attractive,” Gore said.
Gore downplayed the suggestion that he might accept a position in the next president’s Cabinet but left the option open.
“I don’t think that’s the best thing for me to do. I could be wrong,” he said.Former Vice President Al Gore praised the left-leaning bloggers of Netroots Nation on... more

Barack Obama, hoping to inject new energy into the Democratic convention, will break with tradition and deliver his first speech as the party's presidential nominee before an audience of 75,000 people in Denver. The party said yesterday it would open up the convention's pivotal moment to public spectators.
The move was intended to symbolise Obama's promise of a transformational presidency, as well as the historic aspect of his candidacy as the first African-American to lead a major party into a US election, the party said.
"The Democratic party is nominating a true change candidate this August, and it is only fitting that we make some big changes in how we put on the convention," Howard Dean, the party's national committee chairman, said. "By bringing the last night of the convention out to the people we will be able to showcase Barack Obama's positive, people-centred vision for our country."
The plan also aims to capitalise on Obama's talents as an orator who can excite large audiences, unlike the Republican candidate, John McCain.
Invesco Field, the outdoor stadium in Denver where Obama will deliver his acceptance speech on the last day of the convention, has more than three times the capacity of the centre where Democrats will hold their meeting at the end of August. That venue holds about 20,000.
Obama's speech on August 28 will be on the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King's historic "I Have a Dream" address in Washington.
After a week devoted to themes of God and country, Obama and McCain yesterday shifted the focus of their campaigns to the more immediate issues of the economic and energy crises. McCain led off his economic campaign with a promise to cut the record deficits of the Bush administration to produce a balanced budget by 2013. Current projections suggest there will be a $443bn (£224bn) deficit in 2013, fuelled by spending on the Iraq war and Bush's tax cuts. McCain aides sharpened their attacks on Obama as a conventional liberal who would raise taxes.
In a conference call with reporters, Steve Forbes, the onetime independent candidate who is serving as a McCain economic adviser, said Obama's policies would devastate the economy. He also accused Obama of changing positions. "This gets to the whole credibility problem with Senator Obama saying one thing and then doing another," he said.
McCain, in a visit to Denver, took Obama to task for his opposition to the Republican's proposal for a summer reprieve on petrol taxes. "For a guy whose official seal carried the motto 'Yes, we can', Senator Obama's agenda sure has a whole lot of 'No, we can't'," McCain said.
Obama yesterday outlined a $50bn economic stimulus package, which he said would provide some security to middle income families, during an unscheduled stop in St Louis, Missouri. He had been scheduled to travel to North Carolina, but was diverted to St Louis by technical difficulties.
In his speech, Obama accused McCain of favouring big oil companies and multi-millionaires with $300bn in tax cuts. "If this sounds familiar, it's because it's exactly what George Bush has done for the last eight years," Obama said.

The political parties are arming themselves, in preparation for their respective conventions. Congress has approved $100 million to pay for security expenses at this summer's presidential nominating conventions, with $50 million dedicated to each party. CNN's Ed Lavendera reports that Denver and St. Paul officials have said that the types of weapons being purchased are "top secret."Apart from the traditional pepper spray and rubber bullets employed by police for controlling large protests, Denver, Colorado and St. Paul, Minnesota officials may be spending large sums on weapons CNN calls 'science fiction sounding'. Weapons such as the sonic ray gun, which emits a head-splitting frequency and deafens large groups of people. Also rumored for the conventions is the goo gun -- which shoots a gel that can coat and wrap people whole, or stop a moving vehicle in its path -- and a microwave pulse emitter -- a radio frequency device that makes one's skin feel it is on fire, previously deployed in the streets of Baghdad, Iraq. The ACLU is suing both cities to disclose how security money is being spent, with hopes as to determine what specific weapons may be deployed against Americans. However, officials say it is important they be secretive about the technologies employed by their security forces, lest the crowds which will inevitably surround the conventions gain the upper hand. The political parties are arming themselves, in preparation for their respective... more

Hillary alluded to it. Obama is aware of it. So that just leaves millions of democratic "john and jane Q public" in the dark.
The media from ABC to CNN to WKTZ has been very good about leading voers to water-cooler arguments over superdelegates. However, what they haven't told you is that even you so-called "pledged" delegates are not obligated to vote according to primary or caucus results.
