Continuing its mission to ask the difficult questions, Fox News today posed the following query:
Is your laptop cooking your gonads?
Let's face it, probably not, but it's a brave man who doesn't read on just to make sure.
Fox goes on to explain. Gents, apparently all those evenings you've spent browsing the internet on your laptop may have affected your fertility rates. Researchers who hooked (wait, hooked?) thermometers to the scrotum of 29 young men who balanced their laptop on their knees found that, even with a lap pad under the computer, mens' bits overheated quickly.
"Millions and millions of men are using laptops now, especially those in the reproductive age range," said Dr. Yefim Sheynkin, a urologist at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, who led the new study.
Within 10 or 15 minutes their scrotal temperature is already above what we consider safe, but they don't feel it," he added.
Even with a pillow or a book underneath the laptop, your crown jewels still stand a chance of getting so hot that sperm production drops. That's because in order to use a laptop you need to keep your legs closed, which raises the temperature down there to a level that can affect reproduction levels.
When test subjects sat with their legs open and used a laptop, the temperature was at a much better, lower level.
No studies have actually tested how laptops impact men's fertility and there isn't no solid evidence that it would.
"I wouldn't say that if someone starts to use laptops they will become infertile," Sheynkin told Reuters Health. But frequent use might contribute to reproductive problems, he said, because "the scrotum doesn't have time to cool down."

A NY laptop-theft victim finally caught the criminal thanks to the use of a remote desktop application he had installed in his computer. However, it wasn't as easy as connecting to the notebook over the internet and locating him: His investigation lasted for almost a month, watching his laptop screen as the thief used it for everything except for giving a clue about his whereabouts. And yes, you know exactly what "everything" means:
It was kind of frustrating because he was mostly using it to watch porn. I couldn't get any information on him.
Finally, the suspect wrote his name and address to register to a website. José Cáceres, the victim, called the police, who arrested the man within a few hours.A NY laptop-theft victim finally caught the criminal thanks to the use of a remote... more

Considering that most individuals want to have a potable media experience , as well as have access to email on the go, they can not always afford to shell out three or four hundred dollars for a NetBook. Well fret no more, KMart has partnered with Augen to bring a variety of offerings to the KMart lineup. The cheapest of all being the Augen 7" Netbook PC for 100$ . However, if you have 200$, KMart also has a 10.2" Netbook PC Powered by Android.
And, this may come to you as a shocker as well, KMart also has a $169.00 Tablet and a $99.99 eReader ready to go. You can guess that in-store stock will be low probably until after Christmas and then afterwards, inventory will go back up.
This opens the door of possibility through affordability.
(Personally I Think - This is a great way to "give away the razor and sell the blades" consumers who buy a $100 netbook will have access to the Google Android Marketplace, which means they can then opt to spend a few dollars here and there when they see an application they like enough to buy.
This is an excellent strategy!Considering that most individuals want to have a potable media experience , as well as... more

AMD cranked out the product launches in February of 2010, with three new products hitting the store shelves: the Radeon HD 5450, 5570, and 5830. From a gaming standpoint, we can ignore the Radeon HD 5450, which is essentially as fast as the older Radeon HD 4550. This is an HTPC card that doesn't have much prowess in the way of gaming. The Radeon HD 5570 has some potential as a low-end gaming card. But with near-4670 performance and a much higher price point, it isn't something we'd recommend until the cost comes down.
The Radeon HD 5830 is a much more interesting card, essentially a cut-down Radeon HD 5870 with 1,120 shader cores. At $240, it sounds like it has potential. But the card is further crippled by disabling half of its GPU's ROPs, and the unfortunate result is that it performs much closer to the Radeon HD 5770 than it does to the Radeon HD 5850. Despite this limitation, now that the $200 Radeon HD 4890 has disappeared from store shelves, there is really no direct competition for the Radeon HD 5830. We award it with an honorable mention for folks who aren't interested in a dual-card CrossFire setup of Radeon HD 4850s.
On the pricing front, we're looking at fluctuations all over the map, as retailers try to peg appropriate relative costs for the new Radeon HD 5000-series cards as older models become obsolete and fall out of inventory. The Radeon HD 4890 is all but a distant memory now, and Nvidia's GeForce cards, from the GTX 260 to the GTX 285, are either MIA or grossly overpriced. In this environment, with no real competition, the Radeon HD 5850 is actually getting even more expensive. It's now around $320, when only a month ago some of these cards were selling for $290. The ultra high-end Radeon HD 5970 has even skyrocketed to $700.
Of course, Nvidia's next-generation GeForce launch is rumored to be just around the corner, so expect the price shifting to continue in the near future, at least until we see where the new cards land. Happily, there are still a lot of great graphics card buys out there, and we don't think that will change. But it certainly makes us sad to see great products like the $200 Radeon HD 4890 ride off into the sunset.

Here are a few figures that tell a story about the much touted charity “One Laptop Per Child” (OLPC), which your tax dollars subsidize:
Your Tax Dollars Usher in HAMAS’ Online Future
Number of free laptops OLPC delivered to Palestinian Muslim kids in HAMAS Gaza, Fatah West Bank, and Lebanon:
At least 7,450
Number of free OLPC laptops paid for to be delivered in the future to Palestinian Muslim kids in HAMAS Gaza, Fatah West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan:
500,000
Number of free laptops OLPC delivered to poor Israeli Jewish kids in Sderot, Jerusalem, the Negev and other locations in Israel:
0
Number of free laptops OLPC delivered to poor kids in Detroit, Michigan:
0
Number of free laptops OLPC delivered to poor kids throughout the U.S.: 16,400
Not only are your tax dollars subsidizing and financing this, they’re doing it twice. First, there’s the tax deductible status of OLPC. Then, there’s the fact that the Palestinian terrorist kids’ computers are paid for by UNRWA, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugee in the Near East, the Palestinian-specific UN agency paid for mostly by your tax dollars (the U.S. is the largest donor to this agency).
More on how your taxes subsidizee HAMAS curriculum, enabled by computers:
Today in the city of Rafah (19 miles south of Gaza City), officials from OLPC, UNRWA and other NGOs and donors, local dignitaries, parents, teachers and children are celebrating the deployment of the first 2,100 XO laptops at the Rafah Co-Education Elementary School D. Along with OLPC and UNRWA, the deployment is also supported by the Jordanian Hashemite Charitable Organization (JHCO) and the Office of the President (Mahmoud Abbas) of the Palestinian National Authority.
OLPC has worked closely with UNRWA on teacher training and the development of localised software and content for the XOs. 200 teachers have already been trained and more than 150 electronic learning modules are being adapted for use on the XO. OLPC and UNRWA are also collaborating on the formatting of electronic textbooks and workbooks for an entire primary school curriculum.
Rafah is also the city of HAMAS weapons and IED-smuggling tunnels. And keep in mind that it’s well documented that most of these schools are operated by HAMAS, with many of the teachers moonlighting as HAMAS terrorists. And they teach the kids the philosophy of HAMAS (or in the “West Bank,” Fatah/PLO) to the kids. These computers are now another tool in their terrorist plots.
And you have to wonder why OLPC has chosen Palestinian kids, most of whom support Islamic terrorism, as the largest ever recipient group of its laptops.
So, whether or not you can afford a laptop for each of your kids, America is paying for 500,000 laptops to be delivered to Palestinian kids, many of whom are in refugee camps in Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan, where they will–cradle-to-grave–be trained to become Islamic terrorists (not to mention the same in Gazastan and the so-called “West Bank”).
Think these computers won’t be used for terrorist networking?
Think again. Your tax dollars at work, enabling the online communications of future and present Islamic terrorists. Congrats. Here are a few figures that tell a story about the much touted charity “One... more

Reduce
Drawing power for our laptops is a necessary aspect of life, but some are better at power efficiency than others. The more efficient, the less energy used, the greener you are. Plus, a lower energy bill is its own reward. In our annual Green Choice Awards we tested 21 netbooks and notebooks to determine overall eco-friendliness, including the amount of watts they gobble. Click to see which systems get the green star.

Reuse
When you no longer use or need that old notebook, MP3 player, or mobile gadget, what can you do with it? If you can’t or don’t want to give it away to someone you know, consider trading in your old tech for discounts on new purchases, gift cards, or even cash. Many of the programs that accept older, gently-used technology resell, refurbish, or repurpose it, giving the gadgets you no longer want a second life and keeping them out of a landfill. Click below to find programs for trading in your laptop, mobile phone, and other gadgets.

Recycle
If your laptop or other gadgets are too old to earn you some cash, you should still send them off for proper recycling. The components and/or batteries inside might contain harmful chemicals best kept from landfills. Most of the trade-in programs for laptops and other tech will also take recyclables for no fee. Either drop them off at a designated location near you or get a pre-paid envelope or mailing label so you can ship it from home.
And if you’ve got some batteries to dispose of, be sure you’re doing it properly. Some can go in the trash, but others should be sent off for recycling, too.

Don't act like you haven't thought about it, every slate device is just begging for the perfect keyboard accessory that can also function as a hard case. Some industrious souls have gotten on the case of building just such a contraption for the iPad, titled it the LapDock, and given it no lesser a goal than to completely obviate the need for laptops. Shh, no need to ruin their halcyonic existence with talk of the added connectivity, functionality, and versatility of laptops, just let it slide. As to the current state of affairs, well, the LapDock looks like a nicely carved wooden case with room for your iPad and Apple Bluetooth keyboard and that's about it. Not the highest of high-tech implementations, but it's still at the, ahem, prototype stage. Go after the break to see if it catches your fancy.Don't act like you haven't thought about it, every slate device is just... more

Most people use their laptops for work and Web browsing. Now you can add one more task to that list: earthquake detection.
From the recent early-morning 4.4-magnitude jostle in Los Angeles to February's magnitude 8.8 disaster in Chile, ordinary laptops are increasingly acting as miniature seismic stations. They're part of a volunteer army known as the Quake-Catcher Network, which takes advantage of built-in accelerometers in newer laptops to transmit data about earthquakes to researchers at UC Riverside and Stanford University.
About 1,000 people from 61 countries have signed up so far. If the network gets large enough, researchers say, it could act as a low-cost earthquake warning system.

When testing for heat levels on new notebooks, we use a laser thermometer to measure the key touch points (chassis bottom, keyboard, and touchpad) on a notebook after it has been playing a streaming video for 15 minutes in high-performance mode. We consider temperatures higher than 95 degrees Fahrenheit to be uncomfortable, and those higher than 100 degrees are cause for concern. Based on our recent testing, here are some of the hottest and coolest notebooks we’ve seen.

Though many notebooks remain cool to the touch, others can feel like the steering wheel of a car that’s been parked in the sun for a few hours. We’ve recently tested some pretty warm machines, such as the HP Envy 15, which had a palm rest that reached a toasty 103 degrees during testing. The exhaust vent of our Toshiba Satellite T135D review unit measured a sweltering 125 degrees, and the 101-degree touchpad was too hot for comfort. So what exactly causes a notebook to get so warm? And what can manufacturers—and you—do to beat the heat?
