A Republican lawmaker in Arizona is hoping his state creates a holiday celebrating caucasian people.
According to CBS affiliate in Phoenix, state Rep. Cecil Ash made his request felt on the Arizona House floor this week during a discussion about Latino Americans in Arizona.
After Rep. Richard Miranda suggested that the state should have a Latino American day, Ash made his statement.
“I’m supportive of this proposition,” he said. “I just want them to assure me that when we do become in the minority you’ll have a day for us.”
The comment produced some laughs from his fellow lawmakers who thought Ash was being facetious. However, he revealed later that he was not joking.
“Yes, I think it was appropriate,” he said. “It was appropriate for the mood that was in the House and I think that if and when the Caucasian population becomes a minority, they may want to celebrate the accomplishments and the contributions of the Caucasian population the same way.”

The young lady that was spoken to on the street said 'Yes' they have their Cinco de Mayo, so why can't we have something for whites, so I ask, does St. Patricks day not count??? Can we agree on a holiday called Americans Day, we are after all a 'Melting Pot'By Andrew Jones

Jan Brewer Republican from Arizona is really one UGLY AMERICAN... inside and out! Her rudeness to President Obama was unprecedented. She is so full of bigotry, its thick enough to see and one can literally cut it with a knife!
You can tell she is lying when she speaks because, believe it or not... SHE ISN'T GOOD AT IT. She reminds me of a little child trying to fool the grownups. How pathetic that she was able to win the governorship of Arizona. How many lives has she ruined so far...? I wonder, HOW MANY? I'm sure it's in the 4 digits, maybe even 5 or 6.
When I saw how rudely she treated our President (he is President to us all) …and we all know why... She doesn't like his skin color and probably believes the police should have asked him for his papers. She knew that it wasn’t possible for her brown-shirts to confront THE PRESIDENT... so she decided to do it herself.
What Hubris, she is so cocksure of herself it’s pitiful but that's not new within the GOP, they all believe they are the ELITE and everyone else should be at their beck and call, completely subservient to them..
Well, maybe it's easy to convince their diehard followers that they really care about people, we, the other half of America… you know the ones with half a brain, know exactly what they (GOP) are up to. That's why they hate us, that's why they hate President Obama, that's why they hate INTELIGENCE AND CRITICAL THINKING. They hate anything that will take away their power and will do ANYTHING to maintain or grab control.

In the western desert state of Arizona, a company called EnviroMission is planning to build a new solar tower, the first of its kind, an ambitious new way to produce energy with heat from the sun.
When completed in 2015, the tower, located in La Paz County, will be the tallest structure in the United States, and the second tallest in the world. It is the first of two such towers planned by EnviroMission for Arizona.
While it is a solar power source, it does not rely on the same technology as solar panels.
The solar tower has a wide greenhouse at the bottom 4.8 kilometres in diametre, which is heated by the sun. On the principle that hot air rises, the heat then gets sucked into the gigantic 800-metre-high tower, displacing cool air and pushing it up through the tower, causing turbines located just above the base to turn.
Causing turbines to turn is actually the premise of most of today’s most prevalent sources of energy.
For example, most dirty sources of energy like nuclear and coal are simply ways to generate heat to boil water to spin turbines. It is not as if splitting an atom, or burning coal by itself, generates electricity; these technologies are merely ways to create heat....
It has become a popular saying among anti-nuclear activists that using nuclear technology to boil water is akin to using a chain saw to slice butter....

Oops, he did it again.
For the second time in as many days, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has confused President Barack Obama with another person during a campaign event for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
On Thursday, the Arizona senator had declared that “President Obama will turn this country around,” and was quickly corrected by both Romney and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.
Less than 24 hours later, McCain was on the stump in Conway when he goofed again.
“He will rebuild the moral of American and he will restore America,” McCain said of Romney. “I guarantee you he will not lead from behind like Ronald Reagan. He will lead from in front.”
Both Romney’s wife, Ann, and Haley turned to look at the candidate, but he simply applauded this time instead of correcting the 2008 GOP nominee.
McCain most likely mangled a line that he had used several days before in New Hampshire.
“I guarantee one thing,” McCain declared. “No one will ever say that Mitt Romney will lead from behind. He will lead from the front like Ronald Reagan did.”
Republicans have long mocked President Barack Obama over the assertion that he was “leading from behind.”

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s newest high-profile supporter says it’s time for Republicans to “fix our problems with the Hispanics.”
MSNBC’s Chuck Todd on Wednesday asked Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) if Arizona would be a swing state during the 2012 presidential election.
“I think that if not this election cycle, the demographics are that Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, even Texas will all be in play,” the senator said with a sigh.
“And if Republicans don’t fix their problem?” Todd wondered.
“Yes, we have to fix our problems with the Hispanics,” McCain agreed. “It starts with a way to address the issue of immigration in a humane and caring fashion, at the same time emphasizing the need to secure our borders because of the drug cartels and the people who transport people across our border and treat them terribly.”
The Pew Research Center predicts that Latinos will increase from 14 percent of the U.S. population to 29 percent by 2050.

"A key reason for the petition, according to organizers, is what they characterize as Arpaio’s office’s disregard for constitutional rights. The letter that is part of the petition cites the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office failure “to investigate hundreds of sex-crime cases involving children,” which it says “is just one in a long list of atrocities that have taken place during Arpaio's 20 years in power.”

PHOENIX (AP) — A man found unresponsive in a jail cell after fighting with deputies at a Phoenix jail died this week after being taken off life support. The Maricopa County sheriff's office released surveillance video Friday that captured Ernest Atencio's scuffle with officers.
Atencio's family was exploring a possible lawsuit against the embattled Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, said Michael Manning, a Phoenix attorney who has won five wrongful death lawsuits against the department.
Manning said Atencio's family took him off life support Tuesday. He said the 44-year-old man had no brain activity from the moment he arrived at the hospital Friday, did not have alcohol or drugs in his system and had marks from a stun gun on his body.
Latino activists say that Atencio's death raises more questions about practices under Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

The Tucson Police Department descended on Veinte de Agosto Park in Tucson, Arizona Wednesday night, December 21, 2012 and evicted the remaining Occupy Tucson protesters from the encampment they had held for over two months. At 8 PM, protesters were given a 2 1/2 hour time limit to remove their tents and other belongings from the park or risk certain arrest. The protesters responded with a peaceful dissembly of the camp offering little if any resistance; only occasional shouts of "we are the 99%" and "who do you serve, who do you protect?" were heard. The TPD used no riot gear, tear gas or incendiary devices and allowed the protesters to gather on the park property for one final photo and video session. Occupy Tucson leadership immediately called for a special General Assembly Friday, December 23, 2011 at 6 PM at Tucson's Most Holy Trinity Church to plan the next stage in Tucson's Occupation. The meeting is scheduled with the church's blessing. Consider it a taste of the future: the fire, smoke, drought, dust, and heat that have made life unpleasant, if not dangerous, from Louisiana to Los Angeles. New records tell the tale: biggest wildfire ever recorded in Arizona (538,049 acres), biggest fire ever in New Mexico (156,600 acres), all-time worst fire year in Texas history (3,697,000 acres).
The fires were a function of drought. As of summer’s end, 2011 was the driest year in 117 years of record keeping for New Mexico, Texas, and Louisiana, and the second driest for Oklahoma. Those fires also resulted from record heat. It was the hottest summer ever recorded for New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana, as well as the hottest August ever for those states, plus Arizona and Colorado.
Virtually every city in the region experienced unprecedented temperatures, with Phoenix, as usual, leading the march toward unlivability. This past summer, the so-called Valley of the Sun set a new record of 33 days when the mercury reached a shoe-melting 110º F or higher. (The previous record of 32 days was set in 2007.)
And here’s the bad news in a nutshell: if you live in the Southwest or just about anywhere in the American West, you or your children and grandchildren could soon enough be facing the Age of Thirst, which may also prove to be the greatest water crisis in the history of civilization. No kidding.
If that gets you down, here’s a little cheer-up note: the end is not yet nigh.
In fact, this year the weather elsewhere rode to the rescue, and the news for the Southwest was good where it really mattered. Since January, the biggest reservoir in the United States, Lake Mead, backed up by the Hoover Dam and just 30 miles southwest of Las Vegas, has risen almost 40 feet. That lake is crucial when it comes to watering lawns or taking showers from Arizona to California. And the near 40-foot surge of extra water offered a significant upward nudge to the Southwest’s water reserves.
The Colorado River, which the reservoir impounds, supplies all or part of the water on which nearly 30 million people depend, most of them living downstream of Lake Mead in Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, Tucson, Tijuana, and scores of smaller communities in the United States and Mexico.
Back in 1999, the lake was full. Patricia Mulroy, who heads the water utility serving Las Vegas, rues the optimism of those bygone days. “We had a fifty-year, reliable water supply,” she says. “By 2002, we had no water supply. We were out. We were done. I swore to myself we’d never do that again.”
In 2000, the lake began to fall -- like a boulder off a cliff, bouncing a couple of times on the way down. Its water level dropped a staggering 130 feet, stopping less than seven feet above the stage that would have triggered reductions in downstream deliveries. Then -- and here’s the good news, just in case you were wondering -- last winter, it snowed prodigiously up north in Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming.
The spring and summer run-off from those snowpacks brought enormous relief. It renewed what we in the Southwest like to call the Hydro-Illogic cycle: when drought comes, everybody wrings their hands and promises to institute needed reform, if only it would rain a little. Then the drought breaks or eases and we all return to business as usual, until the cycle comes around to drought again.
So don’t be fooled. One day, perhaps soon, Lake Mead will renew its downward plunge. That’s a certainty, the experts tell us. And here’s the thing: the next time, a sudden rescue by heavy snows in the northern Rockies might not come. If the snowpacks of the future are merely ordinary, let alone puny, then you’ll know that we really are entering a new age.
And climate change will be a major reason, but we’ll have done a good job of aiding and abetting it. The states of the so-called Lower Basin of the Colorado River -- California, Arizona, and Nevada -- have been living beyond their water means for years. Any departure from recent decades of hydrological abundance, even a return to long-term average flows in the Colorado River, would produce a painful reckoning for the Lower Basin states. And even worse is surely on the way.
Just think of the coming Age of Thirst in the American Southwest and West as a three-act tragedy of Shakespearean dimensions.
snip
We have already experienced close to 1º C of that increase, which accounts, at least in part, for last summer’s colossal fires and record-setting temperatures -- and it’s now clear that we’re just getting started.
The simple rule of thumb for climate change is that wet places will get wetter and dry places drier. One reason the dry places will dry is that higher temperatures mean more evaporation. In other words, there will be ever less water in the rivers that keep the region’s cities (and much else) alive. Modeling already suggests that by mid-century surface stream-flow will decline by 10% to 30%.
Independent studies at the Scripps Oceanographic Institute in California and the University of Colorado evaluated the viability of Lake Mead and eventually arrived at similar conclusions: after about 2026, the risk of “failure” at Lake Mead, according to a member of the Colorado group, “just skyrockets.” Failure in this context would mean water levels lower than the dam’s lowest intake, no water heading downstream, and the lake becoming a “dead pool.”

On April 23, 2010, the day Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed the infamous immigration bill -- Senate Bill 1070 -- I made a decision to travel to Arizona to work on a book and documentary on the subject of immigration. Watching on the Internet, I was inspired by the student protests at the Arizona State Capital; reminiscent of the civil rights struggle of the 60’s. I arrived in Arizona in time to attend the March in Phoenix, where tens of thousands of Latinos marched in protest of SB 1070. Somehow, I felt a kindred spirit. This was the civil rights movement of my generation. So, I engaged.
But after the march - nothing happened; nothing on the side of those who opposed Senate Bill 1070, that is. Even with the support of the President of the United States, nobody seemed to DO anything about the legislation and other bills being proposed to rid Arizona of all undocumented Latinos.
Election time came and I was hopeful that Arizonans would realize their power at the polls and fire the politicians who sponsor and support anti-immigration legislation. But Arizonans gave Governor Jan Brewer a second term and re-elected Senator John McCain for the fifth time. I talked to many Arizonans at the grass roots level who felt they had no power against the anti-immigration machine that ran the State. I talked to my Latino friends across the country, trying to understand why they wouldn’t simply unite in the example of the African-American civil rights movement. But, no one could explain the complacency.
So when I got an email the other day seeking support for the recall of Senator Russell Pearce, Tea Party favorite, author and sponsor of Senate Bill 1070 and now Arizona Senate President, I decided to write about it and entitled the blog ‘It’s About Time, Arizona.’ A few days later while researching for the blog, I visited the site of the organization responsible for the recall, Citizens for a Better Arizona. And there on the front of the website were the words. ‘It’s About Time.’
Amazing! All of this time, I thought I was the only person on this earth who wondered why Arizonans wouldn’t just stand up and DO something. But as noted on their website, CitizensForABetterAZ.org, since January, 2011, they had been working to gather signatures for the recall of Senate President Russell Pearce. In the end, they gathered more than 18,000 signatures; more than double the signatures needed to force a recall election and more signature than Pearce received when he was elected Senator. Citizens for a Better Arizona co-founder and Phoenix Republican activist Chad Snow explained their purpose, "We want to send a message to Senator Pearce, to every legislator down here at the Arizona legislature, that this kind of extreme, ideologically driven policies will no longer be tolerated in our state.”
I love Arizona. It is one of the most beautiful states I’ve ever visited. On their website, the organization paraphrases Dr. Martin Luther King and reflects my sentiments exactly, “True progress does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability. Things do not get better with the mere passage of time – from one day to the next or from one year to the next. True progress occurs when people – through their hard work, determination and sacrifice – make a decision to ACT.”
Calculated or not, notably missing from the reasons for the recall is Pearce’s anti-immigration legislation. Snow makes it clear that the two main issues that Pearce has worked for - immigration and gun control - are not the reasons for their recall effort. He said, “We don’t take a stand on any of those issues – immigration, gun control. We think those things are irrelevant. We think the most important things for Arizonans is putting our economy back on track and creating jobs. We think that Russell Pearce has a horrible track record and those are not his priorities.”
This historic special recall election is set for November 8, 2011. Never before has an Arizona Senator been recalled and never before has a Senate President, in any state, been recalled at any time in the history of the United States.
Joining the efforts to recall Senator Russell Pearce is independent pollster Michael O’Neil of O'Neil Associates Inc. in Tempe, Arizona. Risking the future of his business and livelihood, O’Neil started Citizens for a Sane Arizona and a website, SaneArizona.com. O’Neil defended crossing the line of neutrality in this statement; "I did this after a great deal of thought because I've maintained a position of absolute neutrality. This case presents such a harm to the state that I basically concluded that it's time for Mike O'Neil, citizen, to step up. I decided this case was just too extreme and just too much to ignore. The harm that's being done to this state, the level of hate and scapegoating just called for stepping up, and damn the consequences."
