Michael A. Hoffman examines the critical issues of free speech, truth and lies in history, and the Orwellian concept of "groupthink," a type of thought within a deeply cohesive in-group whose members try to minimize conflict and reach consensus without critically testing, analyzing, and evaluating ideas. It is a second potential negative consequence of group cohesion.

Like a recurring nightmare, the Anti-Defamation League is back, this time with over 100 billboards in Greater Boston promoting the group’s “anti-bullying” program. As we’ll see, the real bully is the national ADL.
Recall that a few years ago the ADL’s alleged anti-bias program, “No Place for Hate,” was tossed out (NoPlaceforDenial.com) by Watertown, Arlington, Bedford, Belmont, Easton, Lexington, Medford, Needham, Newburyport, Newton, Northampton, Peabody, Somerville, Westwood, and the Massachusetts Municipal Association.
It has long conspired with Turkey – which bullies its ethnic and religious minorities, journalists, and dissidents – to deny the Armenian genocide of 1915-23 committed by Turkey, and to bully Congress into not bringing an Armenian genocide resolution to a fair vote.
The ADL, of course, promotes Holocaust recognition and reacts vociferously against perceived acts of anti-Semitism. Yet it displays gross insensitivity by collaborating with a major human rights violator, Turkey, to block recognition of another ethnic group’s genocide. Can such an organization be trusted to design humane, fact-based programs, whether about anti-bullying or called “No Place for Hate”? The answer is obvious.
And suppose a school system adopts the ADL’s alleged anti-bullying curriculum. Sooner or later, students and parents will discover that it was created by a group that doesn’t practice what it preaches. Duplicity is not a value that schools should be teaching.
Let’s be frank: The ADL has a political agenda. Fortunately, since every Massachusetts school district was required to adopt an anti-bullying curriculum by January 1, the state has many fine such programs that, unlike the ADL’s, aren’t politically motivated.Like a recurring nightmare, the Anti-Defamation League is back, this time with over... more

Perhaps this lawmaker will be abducted and deported to Germany where he can stand trial for this horrific crime like they did with world famous holocaust denier Ernst Zundel.
****
Members of a Norwegian lawmaker's own party have called for his resignation after he publicly denied the Holocaust.
Labor Party lawmaker Anders Mathisen reportedly told the Finnmarken newspaper that the Holocaust never happened and challenged readers to prove him wrong.
“There is no evidence the gas chambers or mass graves existed," he told the newspaper, according to reports. "Even reputable Holocaust historians have admitted it cannot be established.”
Mathisen reportedly has accused Holocaust survivors of exaggerating their stories. He also said that the public has been brainwashed into believing in the Holocaust by films such as "Schindler's List," according to the forum.

NEW YORK (AP) – A New York City parent says he mistakenly sent out an e-mail about a book questioning the Holocaust to a PTA list instead of another group he belongs to.
The New York Times reports that the Jan. 16 e-mail was sent by Michael Santomauro, whose son is a third grader at P.S. 290 in Manhattan. It said: “You should read this book! It is rocking my world!”
Santomauro told the Times he realized his error after two parents complained. He apologized to them.
He said he intended the e-mail for members of a group that debates whether accounts of the Holocaust are exaggerated.
School Principal Sharon Hill wrote to the school’s parents. She said neither the school or the PTA support Santomauro’s views.

One of the Hollywood's top propagandists and producer of make-believe masquerading as history, Steven Spielberg is now advising Nancy Pelosi on rebranding Democrats
***
Lawmakers say she is consulting marketing experts about building a stronger brand. The most prominent of her new whisperers is Steven Spielberg, the Hollywood director whose films have been works of branding genius. Lawmakers said Spielberg has not reported to Pelosi with a recommendation.
Spielberg has been a power player in Democratic politics for years, working on everything from President Bill Clinton's millennial celebrations to the 2008 Democratic National Convention. He endorsed Hillary Clinton in the last presidential race, but since then he's helped fundraise for President Obama. One of the Hollywood's top propagandists and producer of make-believe... more

Yad Vashem, Israel's memorial to the Holocaust, says it has identified the names of 4 million Jews who died at the hands of Nazi Germany. The names, kept in an online database, represent two-thirds of the 6 million Jews killed in the Holocaust.
The "Shoah Victims' Names Recovery Project" of Yad Vashem seeks to "preserve the memory" of the Jews who died:
"The Jews are a people of memory. Our history is an integral part of us and we pass it from generation to generation. Each year we tell the story of Passover–the exodus from Egypt–and recall the revelation at Mount Sinai. In the Yizkor prayer recited on the Jewish holidays we remember the collective tragedies of our people as well as our own personal losses. Every year we commemorate the yahrzeits (anniversaries) of deceased relatives.
Millions of our brethren were murdered without a trace during the Shoah. It is incumbent upon us to remember them. If we do not take action, their legacies will be lost to us forever. Since 1955, Yad Vashem has been fulfilling its mandate to preserve the memory of Holocaust victims by collecting their names, the ultimate representation of a person’s identity, as it is written: "And to them will I give in my house and within my walls a memorial and a name (Yad Vashem), an everlasting name that shall not be cut off." (Isaiah 56 : 5)"
The project is ongoing and people with information on the names of Holocaust victims who have not been identified can share it with Yad Vashem via their website, http://www.yadvashem.org.Yad Vashem, Israel's memorial to the Holocaust, says it has identified the names... more

Seems like a good place for Germany to dump $80 million during a time of bailing out European banks in this global recession. And the US, who obviously don't want to be called out for neglecting their financial obligations and responsibilities, are "chipping in" an additional $15 million.
So altogether that's $95 million (not including other countries financial obligations) to repair a few barracks that got flooded.
***
German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said Wednesday that Germany will pay €60 million ($80 million) over the next year into a new fund for Auschwitz-Birkenau to preserve barracks, gas chambers and other evidence of Nazi crimes at the former death camp.

In his recent three-day “Puppet Master” series, Glenn Beck accused George Soros, prominent Jewish philanthropist and Holocaust survivor, of “helping send the Jews to the death camps” while seeming to draw his material straight from the anti-Semitic forgery, the Protocols of the Elders of Zion."
I am outraged. I would like to add my name to the message below:
Dear Mr. Rupert Murdoch,
I am writing to express my outrage at the recent Fox News special "The Puppet Master." I agree with Abe Foxman's recent characterization of Glenn Beck's attack on George Soros as "not only offensive, but horrific, over-the-top, and out-of-line." On his show on November 9, Mr. Beck stated that "he would be fired" if he "started leveling baseless charges that can't be backed up." Given his false accusation that Mr. Soros "help[ed] send the Jews to the death camps," I hope you will act on Mr. Beck's prediction and end his tenure at Fox News.
Starting on November 9, Fox News Host Glenn Beck evoked anti-Semitic stereotypes to attack prominent Jewish philanthropist and Holocaust survivor George Soros. In his three-day “Puppet Master” series, Mr. Beck accused Soros of “helping send the Jews to the death camps” while seeming to draw his material straight from the anti-Semitic forgery, the Protocols of the Elders of Zion.
Jewish Funds for Justice is fighting back against Beck's outrageous accusations and insinuations with a multifaceted campaign to get Beck's poison off the air.
If you share our outrage, we hope you will join us in taking action. We have set up three things you can do right now.
1. Sign a petition to Rupert Murdoch, calling on him to end Glenn Beck’s tenure at Fox News.
2. Share widely the powerful new video above that shows how Beck’s descriptions of George Soros mirror language from the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, and his images of Soros as “Puppet Master” seem drawn from images on White Supremacist websites.
3. Sign a petition to ADL National Director Abe Foxman, thanking him for his strong statement
Mr. Beck's behavior last week makes a mockery of Fox News’ repeated assurances to Jewish leaders that there was, in the words of Fox News executive and Glenn Beck producer Joel Cheatwood, a “unanimous understanding and agreement that the ultimate sensitivity must be exercised when referencing the Holocaust and they events leading up to it.” Falsely accusing a Holocaust survivor of “helping send the Jews to the death camps,” and then attacking him using anti-Semitic language and imagery, demonstrates no sensitivity whatsoever.
Our campaign is generating lots of great press coverage and comments from leaders across the political spectrum expressing outrage with Glenn Beck's attacks on George Soros.

Helen Thomas said on a radio show that aired Tuesday that the Jewish- run harrassment group, the Anti-Defamation League, was intimidating her. The journalist defended comments she made last Thursday in Dearborn.
"I just think that people should be enlightened as to who is in charge of the opinion in this country," Thomas, 90, told the Marion, Ohio, radio station WMRN-AM.
The ADL has called on groups to remove honors in her name. Hours later, Wayne State University pulled an award in her name.
Thomas, the daughter of Lebanese immigrants, grew up in Detroit and graduated from WSU.

BBC's Heart and Soul: The Holocaust Deniers (Episode 1)
My assessment of this BBC propaganda program is that it really doesn't have much to do with the Holocaust, or Holocaust denial, it's just the usual arguments contending that antisemtism is continuing to grow worldwide under new forms such as 'anti-zionism' and holocaust obfuscation'.
These new forms of antisemitism are, as admitted by the BBC, mostly due to the killing of around 1400 Palestinians in the late 2008-2009 mass murder campaign known as Operation: Cast Lead using new technologies such as dense inert metal explosives (DIME), chemical incendiaries like white phosphorous and other experimental biological weapons of mass destruction.
If you've got about 30 minutes, it's an interesting listen in spite of, or rather because of it's obvious bias and the way it portrays Europe's Muslims as a whole as radical extremists.
***
In this two-part series for Heart and Soul, Wendy Robbins takes a personal journey into the heart of Europe, where fears grow that Jewish history is being rewritten so as to minimise the past and threaten the future.
During that journey, she faces up to the charge that Israeli policies in the Middle East are muddying the moral waters. And another charge that some Jews have created, "a holocaust industry".
The European Jewish community is "the canary in the cage," says one British MP.
"The racists will never stop abusing Jews. Then they'll move on to some other minority. History repeats itself – first the Jews, then the others."
Holocaust denial is provably on the increase, and no longer confined to extremists. But, in countries where evidence of the holocaust is hard to deny, there is a subtle change too.
It's called 'holocaust obfuscation', which started among Baltic ultra-nationalists who combine the atrocities of the Nazis with those of the Soviet Union, resulting in Eastern European history re-written as an equal Nazi-Soviet 'double genocide'. Bizarrely, this means some Jews who joined up with anti-Nazi (often communist) partisans now find themselves under investigation for war crimes.
The Prague Declaration of 2008 calls for the EU to recognise communism and fascism as 'a common legacy', and for the replacement of Holocaust Memorial Day with a Red-Brown Memorial Day, for the victims of both Nazi and Soviet crimes.
Wendy, as part of her investigation, visits Sweden and Lithuania, where denial and obfuscation vie for supremacy.
In World War II, 95% of Lithuania's Jews were wiped out. With that kind of irrefutable evidence, Lithuania could not deny the holocaust outright – although its main museum shows only the results of Soviet occupation, not of Nazi crimes.BBC's Heart and Soul: The Holocaust Deniers (Episode 1)

One of the world's most-wanted Nazis who was under indictment on allegations that his involvement in the murders of 430,000 Jews at Belzec death camp has died aged 89 before he could stand trial.Samuel Kunz was third on the Simon Wiesenthal Center's list of most wanted Nazi war crimes suspects and had been due to go on trial early next year.Kunz was also accused of personally shooting dead 10 Jews at the camp in occupied Poland during 1942-43.The the Simon Wiesenthal Center's chief Nazi hunter, Efraim Zuroff said: "This is incredibly frustrating and I would urge the German authorities to expedite the remaining cases so that justice can be achieved.: But he adds; "He was under indictment - I think that's very important, I wouldn't minimize that fact - at least a small measure of justice was achieved." German State Prosecutor Andreas Brendel said Kunz died at home last Thursday.

“Porcelain Unicorn” is a sensitively inspiring short film directed by Keegan Wilcox, which was named Best Short Film in the 2010 Philips Global Film-Making Contest. The film was chosen from more than 600 entries from around the world, which were submitted by aspiring filmmakers who created original short films using the same brief six-line dialogue.
“Porcelain Unicorn” is a historical drama, which begins with an elderly man who is struggling with memories of 1943 Germany, a time when he was a member of the Hitler Youth Organization. As a 12 year-old boy, he had broken into an abandoned Jewish shop and discovered a frightened young Jewish girl trying to hide from the Nazi storm troopers. Their brief encounter in the situation of life-threatening danger led to a shared moment of tenderness, which forged a special relationship between the two children living in war-torn Europe.
The sense of mutuality in that critical experience provided a foundation for an enduring hope in the possibility for emotional healing. The film invokes a message that conveys a strong conviction in the power of the human spirit to triumph over the trauma of catastrophic events.
This piece includes a number of high-resolution color photographs, as well as the acclaimed short film.

A German horror-film director has caused protests and revulsion with his upcoming film about the horrors of the Holocaust.Uwe Boll, who has been described by some as the "world's worst film director" and a "schlockmeister", said he felt it was time to show the Nazis' crimes in their "full horror" in his up-and-coming film ii Auschwitz.
His aim is to allow audiences to finally grasp the "real, everyday truth" of the Nazis' atrocities. You can watch a showrt trailer on YouTube but users must prove they are 18 before watching the clip. In the excerpt, the 45-year old filmmaker appears as an SS officer outside a gas chamber inside which Jewish prisoners are suffocating as they hammer in vain on the locked door.Other scenes show prisoners being loaded into burning ovens and having their teeth pulled.Critic Sophie Albers wrote in the German Stern magazine: "The words Auschwitz and Uwe Boll in one breath rightly leads one to fear the worst," adding that the film provoked "outrage, confusion and panic".Boll said in an interview with Die Welt it was "high time" to make a film which showed the "real Auschwitz".He said that audiences had for too long been softened by "special story films" about the Holocaust "like Life is Beautiful or Schindler's List".He said such films no longer had the ability to reach young people and that it was his duty as a German to make the film as a way of confronting the past."Every German is obliged to ensure that the Holocaust is not forgotten," he said."For a director like me who is known for his explicit depictions of violence, it's my duty to use precisely this talent to show people the atrocities of the Nazis."A German horror-film director has caused protests and revulsion with his upcoming film... more

Two funds created to provide relief for cash-strapped Holocaust survivors were raided for more than $42 million with the help of several people who were supposed to administer the funds, federal authorities said Tuesday as they announced charges against 17 people.
U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara described the decade-long scheme at a news conference where he said the money was stolen from the Conference on the Jewish Material Claims Against Germany, a not-for-profit group that disburses funds provided by the German government to individuals and organizations.
Aided by six corrupt employees, the claims conference approved more than 5,500 fraudulent applications for aid, leading to millions of dollars being paid to people who did not qualify for help, Bharara said.
The prosecutor said the claims conference revealed the fraud last December to investigators when it discovered it.
He said the defendants created thousands of false applications and duped residents of New York's Russian Jewish immigrant community into participating, sometimes by convincing them that they qualified for payouts.
Bharara said there was such a "culture of fraud" among the defendants that some claims conference employees and their families received payments.
Janice K. Fedarcyk, head of the New York office of the FBI, said the defendants each played a role in creating, filing and processing fraudulent claims on behalf of non-qualifying applicants and then dividing up the proceeds.
"Funds established and financed by the German government to aid Holocaust survivors were siphoned off by the greedy — and not paid out, as intended, to the worthy," she said.
The fraud was carried out against two funds administered by the claims conference, which was established in 1951, authorities said.
The Hardship Fund provided a one-time payment of about $3,600 to victims of Nazi persecution who were forced out of the cities where they lived. The Article 2 Fund provided monthly payments of approximately $411 to survivors of Nazi persecution who make less than $16,000 per year.
So far, investigators have identified about 4,957 fraudulent applications from the Hardship Fund that were filed between 2000 through 2009, costing the fund approximately $18 million, authorities said. They said about 658 Article 2 Fund cases appeared to be fraudulent at a cost of about $24.5 million.
A dozen defendants were arrested on Tuesday while five had been arrested previously. Four have already pleaded guilty to charges in the case.
All the defendants were charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud, which carries a potential penalty of up to 20 years in prison.

Noose Found at Orange County (California) Gay-Rights Organization
By ERIN RICHARDS
Updated 3:50 PM PDT, Fri, Oct 29, 2010
Equality California
A black noose was found on the front door of the Santa Ana chapter of gay-rights organization Equality California on Thursday in what some are calling a hate crime against supporters of gay marriage.
Employee Mel Distel was on her way to work at around 6 p.m. when she found the noose.
According to the Orange County Register, Distel called the police and now plans to file a formal complaint on their response after she said police dismissed the noose, saying, "Sometimes, you just have to live with being the victim."
Distel said finding the noose "was shocking," Distel told the Orange County Register. "It struck me as something that could escalate, something that was definitely meant to be hurtful."
"The dismissive and deeply offensive conduct of the police officer who responded to this incident is nothing short of appalling and sends the message that LGBT community members cannot rely on the police for protection against the kind of hatred and prejudice that can lead to violence," said Equality California director Geoff Kors in a statement.
Santa Ana Police are denying any negligence, telling the Register that they are treating the case as a possible terrorist threat and it has been assigned to investigators.
Volunteers were working in the office Thursday evening to make calls for Assembly candidate Melissa Fox's campaign. Fox, a gay marriage supporter, said in a statement that the noose was a "despicable and hateful act, clearly intended to threaten and intimidate Equality California and other supporters of marriage equality."
The Orange County and Long Beach chapter of the Anti-Defamation League also condemned the noose and alleged police dismissal.
"Our community and its policing agencies must treat such incidents seriously, and send a strong message that such attempts to intimidate an entire community will not be tolerated," said ADL Regional Director Kevin O'Grady. "Law enforcement should make every effort to …send a clear message that they will protect the gay and lesbian community."
