The Venice Film Festival was treated to the first screening of Madonna’s latest moviemaking project WE this week – and it’s fair to say there was a mixed bag of reviews from critics.
But the critics’ opinions have never much troubled Madonna, who spoke to The Telegraph about putting a new spin on the tale of King Edward VIII’s abdication after he fell for American divorcee Wallis Simpson.
According to Madonna, WE aims to tell the human side of the scandal, putting right the negative portrayal of Simpson ever since she rose to notoriety.
The film currently has no release date scheduled so you’ll have to have a read of Telegraph film critic David Gritten’s review of it to find out if it’s any good:

US director Quentin Tarantino is to head the jury at this year's Venice Film Festival, it has been announced.
The Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction creator will lead the panel of judges awarding the festival's main prize, The Golden Lion.
He takes over the role from Taiwanese-born director Ang Lee, who led last year's jury that gave the Golden Lion to Israeli film Lebanon.
This year's festival, which is held on The Lido, will run from 1-11 September.
Tarantino was nominated for an Academy Award in 2010 for best director and screenplay for his hit movie Inglourious Basterds, which won a best supporting actor Oscar for Christoph Waltz.

Lebanon, directed by Samuel Maoz and set largely inside a tank stranded inside enemy territory on the first day of the Lebanon War in June 1982, has won the Venice Film Festival’s Golden Lion for Best Film.
Maoz, who based the film on his own experiences, dedicated the award to “people all over the word who come back form the war safe and sound, they work, get married, have children but inside remain stuck in their souls.”
The Coppa Volpi for Best Actor went to Colin Firth for his performance of a gay college professor in fashion designer Tom Ford’s well-received directorial debut The Single Man. Firth spoke in Italian while accepting the award, saying it was “possibly the greatest honor of my life”.

"ROME -- "A Single Man," the directorial debut of fashion designer Tom Ford, will head a record 14 films in the third edition of the Queer Lion awards on the Venice Lido.
The Queer Lion prize selects the best film with a gay plot or subplot officially screening at the Venice Film Festival or one of its sidebars. Ford's story of an academic struggling with the loss of his partner is the only Queer Lion candidate in the main 24-film lineup, but other highlights include "Io sono l'amore" (I Am Love), a drama from Luca Guadagnino screening in the Horizons sidebar; Stefani Consiglio's "L'amore e basta" (Love is Enough) from the Venice Days sidebar; and Claudio Noce's "Good Morning Aman," from the Critic's Week sidebar.
Queer Lion organizers also announced the jury that will evaluate the 14 films in the running for the prize. It will be headed by film directors Gustav Hofer and Luca Ragazzi, with participation from journalist Mark Smith, film critic Roberto Schinardi and director Peter Marcias.
The sidebar will be held concurrently with the 66th edition of the Sept. 2-12 Venice festival, with the winner announced on the fest's second-to-last day. "I didn't know Tom Ford was directing!
