Karl Rove's latest attack ad deserves an Oscar...for Best BullS#@t of the Year!
The ad features a mom who is disillusioned over failed promises by President Obama. To drive the point home, the woman’s children have moved back home after college, are unemployed, and evidently only have time to play endless games of basketball in the driveway.

Only once in the last half-century has South Carolina awarded its electoral votes to a Democratic presidential candidate.
A top Republican advisor is predicting that the Palmetto State could turn blue once again this year, however.
In a recent state-by-state breakdown, Karl Rove listed President Obama to have a three-percent lead in South Carolina over Mitt Romney, the apparent Republican candidate.

President George W. Bush’s former senior advisor on Tuesday said that President Barack Obama was “some kind of political thug” because he suggested that it would be “unprecedented” for the U.S. Supreme Court to strike down the health care reform law.
During his show on Tuesday, Fox Business host Lou Dobbs asked Karl Rove how Obama was handling the possibility that the court might overturn all or part of the Affordable Care Act.
“Not too well,” Rove insisted. “This is a bad way to start off, looking like you are some kind of political thug at the White House threatening the Supreme Court and basically telegraphing to them, ‘You better uphold my law or there’s going to be political damage created and I’ll help do some of the creating.’”
“I thought it was very unpresidential and probably shows the mindset of what the president might do if it’s declared unconstitutional,” he added.
As Bush’s former top political adviser, Rove was also accused of strong-arm tactics like improperly firing U.S. Attorneys for their political beliefs and engineering laws against LGBT rights to turn out conservative voters.

Clint Eastwood starred in a two minute ad for Chrysler which debuted during the halftime of yesterdays Super Bowl. The ad talks about how the American auto industry returned to greatness and how all of America will return to greatness even after the economic problems that our country has been dealing with.
In the ad Eastwood says, “This country can’t be knocked out with just one punch, we get right back up again and when we do the world will hear the roar of our engines”.
But since the ad features Chrysler and the American auto industry which President Obama saved, even though Republicans were willing to see the American auto industry die, along with the million plus jobs that the industry creates, Karl Rove and Fox “news” see the ad as an endorsement of President Obama.

IOWA -- Newt Gingrich has allegedly checked into an undisclosed hospital in Iowa after Karl Rove's henchmen cut off the GOP candidate's testicles late Saturday evening. The details are fuzzy, and the only source blaming the grotesque castration of Gingrich's privates is, unsurprisingly, Gingrich himself.
Gingrich's lone campaign staffer was not around when the incident happened. According to the sputtering, bewildered Newt, the violent action happened at a trucker cafe just outside Des Moines. "I was halfway done with my medium rare steak, so I untucked my napkin from my collar and headed to the men's room to let out a little pressure. Two men entered after me, held me down on the floor. They pulled out a hunting knife and disabled me."
He's blaming Karl Rove for the attack. Pundits had recently blamed Rove for supporting Romney and lashing out at Gingrich. "Rove did a hit job on me, and now I'm severely disfigured," Gingrich said. "The terrifying reality is still setting in."
Ever since Gingrich performed the Truffle Shuffle for a large audience of Iowan voters, he surged in the polls. The FCC later banned the video of the dance calling it "nightmarish and offensive."
Gingrich called an ambulance and was escorted by police to an undisclosed location where he is currently being treated. The candidate has been described as delirious and "out of touch with reality", as the local sheriff put it at an emergency press conference. "He'd been traumatized very badly. We're hunting down the perpetrators, but so far we don't have much to go on. Why this candidate was dining in a truck stop by himself, we don't really know yet, but we're putting the details together."
The sheriff admitted he didn't think Rove was behind the crime, but instead a few "rowdy liberal truckers" cornered the candidate and "had their way with him." The sheriff refused to answer one reporter's question about if there really existed any liberal truckers.

Protesters affiliated with the “Occupy Wall Street” movement on Wednesday interrupted Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich during a speech at the University of Iowa.
“Mic check,” the protesters shouted. “We are here to protest your speech today. We object to your callous and arrogant attitude toward poverty and poor people.”
The protesters also denounced his “vilification of people as shiftless and unwilling to work” and his “disgusting suggestions that we bring back child labor.”
Some of the protesters were escorted out of the room but were not arrested, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The “mic check” is a reference to the system of communication used by the “Occupy Wall Street” protesters in New York City’s Zuccotti Park.
Unable to use microphones because they lack the proper sound permits, the protesters repeat in unison what a speaker says. The speaker begins by saying “mic check.”
The “mic check” later evolved into a form of protest. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, President Barack Obama, Republican strategist Karl Rove, and Republican presidential Ron Paul have all recently been interrupted by the “99 Percent” movement. Gingrich was previously “mic checked” by protesters in Florida and Massachusetts.

When people ask me why these two candidates are so important, my answer is very simple: Both women are true progressives, and that's what America needs. It's pretty clear that the present 'system' of electing our leaders isn't going to change any time soon. We've made halfhearted attempts at reforming the election process and have basically gotten nowhere.

Republicans weren’t the only big winners in the November election. Businesses of all sizes and specialties also benefited from a campaign season in which $4 billion was spent on races.
Those that really made out were broadcasters, which made $2.5 billion in ad revenue from federal, state and local campaigns. That means political advertising and media companies weren’t far behind, being paid handsomely to fashion the 30-second spots that deluged the airwaves.
GMMB Inc., a media consulting firm that helped Barack Obama in 2008, earned $116 million from clients, including the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada).
Media Strategies and Research of Denver made $47 million for its work on 18 Democratic House and Senate contests.
On the Republican side, Crossroads Media—an arm of GOP strategist Karl Rove’s new conservative PAC, American Crossroads—took in $40 million.
The catering industry did well, too, racking in a total of $40 million, not including the $11.5 million that went to liquor and other beverages. And ADP, the leading firm that handles payrolls, gained almost $33 million of business.Republicans weren’t the only big winners in the November election. Businesses of... more

Flickr/Gage SkidmoreThe votes are in, and while some close races are still being tallied, there is a clear winner from the 2010 elections: Secret corporate cash.
Such unaccounted for political donations may end up allowing those accused of wrongdoing to go free. As Joshua Holland details for AlterNet, Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission may have provided a lifetime supply of get-out-of-jail-free cards to corporate criminals.
The Kentucky senate race serves as a prime example. The Democratic candidate, Jack Conway, is currently Kentucky’s attorney general. Conway is also currently prosecuting a nursing home for allegedly covering up the sexual abuse of one of its residents.
But that nursing home is owned by Terry Forcht, a millionaire who gives prodigiously to right-wing causes. He poured money into Karl Rove’s organization, American Crossroads GPS, which ran ads backing Conway’s Republican opponent, Rand Paul. Guess who came away with the victory last night?
As Holland emphasizes, the mid-term elections are just how the first phase of the justice system’s corruption plays out. Eventually the mere threat of attack ads could be enough to prevent needed prosecutions. Corporate bigwigs could literally get away with murder, and pay for it only through attack ads.
Think this is bad? Just wait for 2012
As David Corn details for Mother Jones, the Supreme Court’s ruling has put American democracy in grave danger. This year’s big spending is just a warm-up for the 2012 presidential election. Karl Rove has already pledged to keep running attack ads after the mid-terms, and there’s no doubt that he’ll make good on that. As Corn emphasizes, this issue doesn’t just affect how campaigns are financed—it will permanently reshape the very nature of American elections.
The permanent, neverending campaign will become even more permanent and neverending. These big-and-secret-money groups will be working 24/7, opposing and discrediting President Barack Obama and the Democrats in the so-called off-year and then revving up for the 2012 presidential and congressional elections. The negative ads never have to stop.
That, ultimately, is the major take-away from last night’s elections. Not the number of seats Republicans picked up in the House, or the Tea Party’s ability to infiltrate the Senate, but the formal incorporation of American politics. With literally no limits on the amount of money they can spend to influence elections, corporations and secret billionaires are going to be tipping the democratic scales wherever they smell profit.
That means it will be much, much harder for politicians of any ideological stripe to solve society’s problems. The richest corporations have the most political purchasing power, and the companies with the most money are those that have thrived under the status quo—however destructive that state of affairs may be to society at large. This money will go to keeping things the way they are—not toward creating jobs, improving education, expanding access to health care, stopping ecological catastrophe or anything else.
Citizens United 101
We spoke with Jesse Zwick of The Washington Independent about the nuts and bolts of Citizens United and secret campaign cash. In the below video, Zwick details the potential impact of secret money—and how citizens and legislature can curb the effects of this historic ruling.
Bare-bones, anti-Citizens United legislation might still have a shot
So what can be done? Earlier this year, Republicans successfully filibustered legislation that would have forced corporations to disclose their political spending and require front-groups to divulge the identities of their donors. But as Jesse Zwick emphasizes for The Washington Independent, there’s still one more opportunity to push a bare-bones version of the bill through Congress. Democrats will retain their broad Congressional majorities until January 2011, when the candidates elected last night formally take up office. If Democrats see which way the corporate wind is blowing, they’ll flex their political muscles one last time to get a disclosure bill through Congress. There are many things that people are reluctant to do in public that they have the political right to do. If lawmakers can remove the anonymity from corporate and elite political spending, some of the Citizens United damage could be reversed.
If not, 2012 is going to be even uglier than last night.
But wait, there’s more!
* Amie Newman of RH Reality Check reports that a last-minute mailer funded by outside group The Citizens for Responsible Spending attacked Washington state Sen. Rodney Tom, citing his pro-women’s rights and pro-LGBT positions. Tom ended up losing his seat last night.
* California upheld its environmental protection law by defeating Proposition 23, despite the fact that oil companies funneled nearly $10 million to pass the measure, reports Kate Sheppard at Mother Jones.
* As Dave Gilson details for Mother Jones, outside spending worked overwhelmingly in favor of Republican candidates in key races.

GOP strategist Karl Rove and former Vermont Governor Howard Dean discussed the merits of various media outlets Monday night, unsurprisingly finding themselves on polar opposites of the debate.
Dean spoke positively about NPR, even in the wake of a recent controversy concerning the firing of correspondent Juan Williams over statements he made on Fox News, while Rove claimed that NPR's audience was like Saddam Hussein.
NPR "tell[s] it as they see it, and they usually get it right," Dean said of the radio outlet at a University of Delaware forum, according to Politico's report. And Fox doesn't get it right because Fox is a particular offender at making news instead of reporting it."
Rove reportedly interrupted: "45 percent of NPR listeners were Saddam Hussein."
Along with his strange criticism of NPR, Rove also blasted the New York Times and other print organizations, saying that they were "overwhelmingly liberal."
"They are systematically liberal, either politically or culturally, and they are unaware of it," Rove said, according to Politico.
Predictably, Rove claimed that Fox News and the Wall Street Journal were the solution to the woes of these outlets.GOP strategist Karl Rove and former Vermont Governor Howard Dean discussed the merits... more
