I've gushed about my love of the beloved "tips to hack your life" website Lifehacker recently, but creator Gina Trapani is always giving me reasons to love her more, and not just because she runs a personal site called SmarterWare.
Here's the latest: I signed up for a Google Wave account way back when, and was one of those not-so-lucky-people-that-I-got-my-account-first, but still-pretty-lucky-and-way-before-almost-everyone-else-i-knew people. Problem was, I launched it a few times, got a little confused, got a little bored, got a little frustrated when something seemed unnecessary or oddly designed, and essentially abandoned the whole thing after some halfhearted settings reviews.
Back to why Gina (with help from Adam Pash) is awesome. She just wrote a complete Google Wave guide called "The Complete Guide to Google Wave" (shocking title, I can't believe it either) which is available to you, me, and everyone else, for free, on the great big Internet!
It's pretty much the most comprehensive, inclusive Google Wave-based piece of modern literature that I've seen, anyway. God, I'm glad they did all this so I don't have to.
It's worth noting their official "Buy the Book" policy:
"The preview edition of The Complete Guide to Google Wave will be available for purchase as a DRM-free PDF in November of 2009. The first edition will debut in January as both a PDF and a softcover print book, with new editions to follow throughout 2010.
Keep an eye on this site, follow us on Twitter, or subscribe to our mailing list to find out when the book will be available for purchase. Read more about our grand experiment in quick, iterative, and independent technology publishing on our About page.
The Complete Guide to Google Wave is and will continue to be freely available to read online at completewaveguide.com."
Now, if that isn't an early gift under the tree, I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS, PEOPLE.I've gushed about my love of the beloved "tips to hack your life"... more

Chrome: In their continued pledge to speed up the web, Google's launched a new Chrome extension called Speed Tracer designed to help developers diagnose what's slowing down page loads.
Web developers have likely seen similar tools in the past—like the popular YSlow Firefox extension or Google's own Page Speed, but Speed Tracer offers a slightly different take, focusing on JavaScript execution in a way that the others don't. This isn't the kind of tool that regular old users would use, but it looks like a solid new tool for web developers.
Speed Tracer is a free download, currently works on Windows and Linux versions of Chrome.

With the screen recorder, you can capture not just the UI, but also internal sound and moving video at full screen. (Yes, that includes Hulu.) And then you can easily take that file and move it your iPhone.
There's a detailed tutorial and video so that you can see the resulting quality. This is dead simple to do, but has some drawbacks. For instance, the system captures sound from the video and the mic, so if there is any external noise, it will end up on the video. You can always set it up in a quiet room for a while. And there are already some Apple lovers looking for ways around this.
If you're the kind of person who doesn't mind bootleg movies with people getting up for popcorn in the middle and random laughter, this aspect probably won't bother you. Those looking for DVD-quality archives will have to look elsewhere. With the screen recorder, you can capture not just the UI, but also internal sound and... more

I'm posting this because I am a fan of the HALO series of games.
This dude designed his desktop to look like a screenshot of a battle... at first glance it looks cool but, whats so special about it? Well dig on this
Grenades - Each grenade launches a specific application. I currently have them set to, from left to right, Pidgin, Steam, Foobar, and Firefox.
Power Drainer - Opens a Shutdown menu. You can choose Shutdown, Restart, and Sleep
Health Bar - Displays current track progress, with artist and title above it.
Battle Rifle and Ammo Count - Displays current unread message count from Gmail and the Battlerifle opens Gmail.
Ammo Clip - Top clip is download traffic; bottom clip is upload traffic.
Very cool, just imagine the possibilities.I'm posting this because I am a fan of the HALO series of games.

Open ID is now being used by Facebook, Yahoo, Flickr, Paypal, Google, Microsoft, AOL, MySpace, IBM, LiveJournal and VeriSign, among many others.
OpenID is a distributed single sign on solution that allows people to sign into different services with the same login credentials.
Simply put, one cracked OpenID site (by hackers, the government, parents, etc) could result in total profile information access and/or one's identity being abused over several other OpenID sites.
The creator of OpenID currently works at Google.

"Web site Legacy passes on your "digital property" to your friends or loved ones should you die. At first blush, the idea sounds admittedly kind of absurd. But think about the hassle for your loved ones involved in finding contacts that should be notified of your death (email or Facebook), or the money sitting in your PayPal account with nobody around to claim it. None of this poses an insurmountable obstacle for your loved ones, but it'd all be a lot easier if the appropriate usernames and passwords were automatically handed over at your demise."
Good idea? Kinda, I mean, you could just write all that information on a piece of paper and stick it in you desk, or get a safety deposit box or something...

MP3 search engine BeeMP3 aggregates tons of free music online, from Alicia Keys to Arcade Fire with a quick and dead simple design. Akin to web sites like SeeqPod, SkreemR, or the decidedly low-fi Google MP3 search technique, BeeMP3 is yet another simple way to find and download MP3s online. I can guarantee you'll see some copyrighted music at BeeMP3, so, as always, download those tunes at your own risk, etc.

Looking for a good read? Provide web site What Should I Read Next with your reading listparticularly books you've enjoyedand receive recommendations for other, similar books you might enjoy. To get started, just give the site your email address and start building your booklist, which consists of both a favorites list and an exclude list (for books you read but didn't really enjoy). Once you find a recommendation that sounds interesting, head over to a book exchange site like previously mentioned BookMooch ( http://www.bookmooch.com/ ) and grab a few new books on-the-cheap.

The Simple Dollar weblog details the process and financial, health and taste benefits of baking your own bread from scratch.
What I've found is that many people are simply intimidated by the seemingly complex and work-intensive process of making bread. It seems difficult and loaded with steps and significant work. In fact, bread is quite easy to make at home, and you only need a few staple ingredients to make a simple loaf.
The post points out that not only can making your own bread be quick and simple, but it's also likely to be considerably more healthy and tasty than your traditional store-bought industrial bread. If you're an old hand at homemade bread, let's hear your thoughts in the comments.
