And he took the opportunity to talk about baseball's dark past - the Steroids Era

Cooperstown was founded in 1786 by William Cooper, a judge and member of Congress. Several of the stone houses that William Cooper built in Cooperstown still remain standing in the village.
The son of William Cooper, James Fenimore Cooper, became one of the best-loved novelists in the United States with his “Glimmerglass” tales, including his most noted work, “The Last of the Mohicans.”
The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum was established in Cooperstown in 1939. It cemented Coopertown's place in American history.
A number of vintage photographs and three videos are included (a video of vintage photographs of Cooperstown; vintage film clips of Babe Ruth; and a documentary about the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum).

The man who called Koufax's 1964 no-hitter and 1965 perfect game as well as Hank Aaron's record tying home run #714 died this weekend.
As far as National League umpires go, he was a legend who was a huge part of baseball's finer moments in history.
His umpire's jacket is in the Cooperstown Hall of Fame.

Look at that 'stache, you can't say you don't want him in the Hall...
Plus he's the only reason the Yankees were ever good during the Reggie Jackson years.
He pitched before the steroids era, so it's ok for you all to like the guy and applaud his long wait to break into the hall...
He must wear a Mariner's cap when he goes into the Hall though...
He was the guy who made Griffey, Randy Johnson, and A-Rod great, just for being their mustache touting teammate in 1994.
He joins his former Padre manager Dick Williams in the 2008 Hall of Fame class.
Can someone explain how the great Chuck Knoblauch only got one vote?
Knobby and Justice musta been screwed by that Mitchell Report outing...Look at that 'stache, you can't say you don't want him in the Hall...... more

No one was greater and more deserving executive in the history of baseball to get into the hall than Walter Alston...
Yes he moved the Dodgers away from beloved Ebbets Field and Brooklyn...
He is every reason why the Dodgers history is so revered today...
He owned the team from 1944-1979, an era where he ushed in Jackie Robinson, brought the first of a number of World Series titles to the franchise with their unforgetable 1955 championship...
Every Dodger fan whether in Brooklyn or L.A. owe an insurmountable ammount of gratitude to this man...
And it's about time he gets recognized for what he's done...
His sone took over the team in 1979 and ran the team well... ushering in Fernando-mania and Nomo-mania... before realizing the third generation of O'Malleys were inept turds and was forced to sell to Rupert Murdoch who later defacated onto the franchise and ruined almost everything the O'Malley's accomplished...
There is no way in hell Frank McCourt can fill these shoes no matter how many ex-Red Sox and ex- Yankees he brings to town...
And Dick Williams was just an awesome manager throughout the 70's and 80's with the A's, Red Sox, and Padres- taking 3 World Series with 3 teams...No one was greater and more deserving executive in the history of baseball to get into... more

Barry Bonds would boycott Cooperstown if the Hall of Fame displays his record-breaking home run ball with an asterisk.
That includes skipping his potential induction ceremony.
"I won't go. I won't be part of it," Bonds said in an interview with MSNBC that aired Thursday night. "You can call me, but I won't be there."
The ball Bonds hit for home run No. 756 this season will be branded with an asterisk and sent to the Hall. Fashion designer Marc Ecko bought the ball in an online auction and set up a Web site for fans to vote on its fate. In late September, he announced fans voted to send the ball to Cooperstown with an asterisk.
Of course, the asterisk suggests Bonds' record is tainted by alleged steroid use.Barry Bonds would boycott Cooperstown if the Hall of Fame displays his record-breaking... more
