According to the agency, the balloons will be in readily accessible locations, visible from nearby roadways and accompanied by DARPA representatives. Way back in January of 2007, we[Engadget] reported on the Strange family, who were suing Sacramento radio station KDND-FM for the wrongful death of Jennifer Strange, who was found dead in her home after competing in a contest to try to win a Nintendo Wii. The contest -- "Hold Your Wee for a Wii" -- involved seeing who could drink the most water without urinating, and Jennifer, who did not win, left the studio and later died. Her autopsy later showed signs of water intoxication. Yesterday, a California jury ruled a wrongful death in the case, and ordered Entercom Sacramento LLC, a subsidiary of Philadelphia-based Entercom Communications Corp., to pay $16.5 million dollars to her family as a result of the actions of the radio station's employees.

Will Sarah Palin ever stop being a punchline? Let’s hope not. Wonkette had a contest to create Blingees of her new book cover, and the results are pretty awesome.
I’ve posted my personal favorite here — old Sarah looks good in shutter shades. Maybe she should have worn those during the campaign to improve her appeal with the ‘young voters.’

Cheetahs are the fastest land mammal! Capable of reaching speeds in excess of 70mph they are an amazing animal, unfortunately we are not working fast enough to save them in the wild. It is estimated their numbers globally have declined by over 90% in the last 100 years!
Namibia is one of the last refuges of the remaining world Cheetah population. A quarter of all the remaining cats are found in Nambia. A local thorn bush species is invading the savannah in the country, causing over US$90 million each year in lost revenue to Namibian farmers, whilst also destroying the native habitat of the fastest of the cats. Now the Cheetah Conservation Fund has pioneered a scheme to clear the thorn bush and turn it into cheap fuel briquettes. The project is creating jobs at the same time as helping to restore the hunting ground of the endangered cheetah.
Be a film critic, have fun and promote driving efficiency!
The Alliance to Save Energy's Drive $marter Challenge campaign launched a video contest in mid-August that produced so many good videos that the judges had problems narrowing it down to just the top 10 finalists.
Now, they’re inviting people to play "film critic," have fun, and determine who wins the $5000 grand prize and three other exciting prizes.
Public voting on 10 short videos aimed at helping to drive smarter, reduce their gas consumption and drive fewer miles begins today (October 5) and runs through Monday, October 19, 11:59 PM (EDT).
To rate the videos (from 1-5 stars), just go to the Drive Smarter Challenge video contest website: http://drivesmarterchallenge.org/contest
Videos are just two minutes or shorter, and you can return to the site if you don't finish rating all 10 in one sitting.Be a film critic, have fun and promote driving efficiency!
