While living underground is generally fodder for fantasy novels (think the Dwarves of Moria or Jules Verne’s The Underground City), horror films (1984 introduced us to cheesy horror creatures called “Cannibalistic Human Underground Dwellers, also known as C.H.U.D.) or post-apocalyptic disaster stories (Mad Max), underground is a pretty good place to live, when you think about it.While living underground is generally fodder for fantasy novels (think the Dwarves of... more

In the beginning… God made the seed bearing plant and gave it to man for food, and saw that it was good. Then, man, thinking he knew more than God, was foolish and made it illegal to grow and use hemp and that was not good. If ever there was a plant that could single handedly save our planet, it is the hemp plant. The hemp plant is not bothered by many pests, and is usually grown without the use of herbicides or insecticides that contribute to polluting our environment, products, and workers. There are so many uses for this plant that it could reduce our use of other resources that are not renewable, or like trees, take years to replenish. In the beginning… God made the seed bearing plant and gave it to man for food,... more

Earth) – Today San Francisco based Rainforest Action Network (RAN) will throw yet another swanky celebrity filled party to REVEL and congratulate themselves for logging primary forests to protect them, and to raise further money for such “rainforest protection”. RAN continues to hold to the myth that primary rainforests – 500 year old trees in millions of year old ecosystems – should be “sustainably managed” for consumption such as toilet paper and lawn furniture. Noted author Naomi Klein will be RAN’s guest of honor, receive an award, and has been vocal in defending the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) brand of disaster capitalism.Earth) – Today San Francisco based Rainforest Action Network (RAN) will throw... more

"To speak of God, to think of God, is in every respect to show what one is made of. I have always wagered against God and I regard the little that I have won in this world as simply the outcome of this bet. However paltry may have been the stake (my life) I am conscious of having won to the full. Everything that is doddering, squint-eyed, vile, polluted and grotesque is summoned up for me in that one word: God!" - Andre Breton"To speak of God, to think of God, is in every respect to show what one is made... more

When we think of treehuggers, and people who advocate treeplanting, we think 80s hippie, or Julia Butterfly Hill, the gal who lived in a tree for 2.5 years to fight against deforestation. Or the old-fashioned model of the Jewish National Fund to plant trees everywhere in Israel. But in a new move, a United Nations body urges cities of the world (and the people who live in them – that’s us!) to start planting trees to mitigate climate change. There are a lot of benefits, as many of us know, to trees in the urban space. And the UN organization report will highlight what and how. When we think of treehuggers, and people who advocate treeplanting, we think 80s... more

It sounds like a horror movie: Biting ants invade by the millions. A camper’s metal walls bulge from the pressure of ants nesting behind them. "A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty." - Albert Einstein"A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in... more
