When I first saw the trailer for MONSTERS, I couldn’t help but get excited. As a kid growing up I’ve always been a big fan of monster movies like Godzilla, JAWS, King Kong and Gamera. MONSTERS looked like an independent film that could really bring something new to the genre that generally revolved around explosions and people running in mass hysteria. I really hoped that MONSTERS could do for monster movies, what District 9 did for alien movies. Well, they’re halfway there.

Who’s in it? Michael Keaton, Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Samuel L. Jackson, Dwayne Johnson, Rob Riggle, Damon Wayans Jr
What type of movie is it? Action Comedy
What certificate is it? 12A
What’s it about? Two mismatched New York City detectives seize an opportunity to step up like the city’s top cops whom they idolize – only things don’t quite go as planned.
Is it any good? Considering this is directed by Adam McKay, the brain behind Anchorman, Step Brothers and Talladega Nights this is a disappointment. Sure, there are a host of laugh out loud funny lines and bizarre quotes that you will hankering to try and remember to use in real life and amuse your mates … but this is far below par for Adam. The film’s opening sequence is stolen by Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson as the cops that Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg look up to and want to be - but even that short lived outlet for comedy gold isn’t mined as deep as it should be.

Who’s in it? Drew Barrymore, Justin Long, Christina Applegate, Jim Gaffigan, Rob Riggle
What type of movie is it? Romantic Comedy
What certificate is it? 15
What’s it about? A romantic comedy centered on a guy and a gal who try to keep their love alive as they shuttle back and forth between New York and San Francisco to see one another.
Is it any good? I was expecting great things from this after Drew Barrymore found her on screen feet again recently with Whip It. I hope that her creativity would drive her towards a project that was more solid artistically but sadly Going The Distance is what we get. Now I love a good romantic comedy and I was expecting something that the trailer appeared to promise, something more edgier than other rom-coms deliver and something that I could relate to as having been someone who has had (until I met my wife) a number of long distance relationships.

Who’s in it? Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Wentworth Miller, Kim Coates, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Spencer Locke, Boris Kodjoe
What type of movie is it? Action Horror Fantasy
What certificate is it? 15
What’s it about? In a world ravaged by a virus infection, turning its victims into the Undead, Alice continues on her journey to find survivors but when a new lead that promises a safe haven from the Undead takes them to Los Angeles it very quickly becomes clear that all is not what it seems.
Is it any good? Now I wasn’t invited to see a screening of this film so I had to (shock horror!) PAY to see this in 3D in my local cinema. I am a fan of the franchise and have seen all of them in the cinema an on DVD and on Blu Ray. I have never played the games and I wouldn’t consider myself a fan as such but I do enjoy the franchise and all the nonsense that comes with them. Having already seen some of the footage from the film a few weeks prior to release I was genuinely looking forward to the style , the 3D aspects and another instalment of the Resident Evil franchise full stop but I hate to say I was left totally disappointed.

The American is one of those films that seems like it was made many years ago and only just released. It has much more in common with 50s character dramas than modern thrillers, and is a complete 180 from the frenetic pace of the Bourne franchise. It’s a quiet, contemplative study of a man, and the way he interacts with the world. The pace is almost lifeless, akin with a photo gallery. There is absolutely no rush to the proceedings, and yet the film doesn’t lose your interest. It holds you hostage and forces you to absorb every detail of its phenomenal cinematography. George Clooney makes for an incredibly subtle protagonist, and this is probably his best acting work to date. It’s a good thing too… because if he wasn’t on his game, there would be little else to help you pass the time… Read the complete review clicking in the link

From the sick and twisted mind of Robert Rodriguez comes the film Machete. Promising fans a ‘bloody’ good time, Machete is based on the ‘fake trailer’ shown in the 2007 film Grindhouse, another Rodriguez project. Setting the stage for this bloody revenge tale is a plot centering on our knife wielding hero himself, Machete (Danny Trejo). Machete is a Mexican ex-Federale. As the film starts, we’re treated to a prologue where Machete is forced to witness the death of his wife. The man responsible is the evil Mexican drug lord Torrez (Steven Seagal)…. It’s easy to think Going the Distance will fall short. It’s a romantic comedy relegated to the dreaded early September time slot – also known as, the month of forgotten movies – so it’s very possible that it’s a bit lacking in qualities of merit. But while I can’t say it’s the most memorable or consistently snappy comedy I’ve seen, I can say it has its pluses. It’s raunchier and more realistic than your average rom-com (an R rating can work wonders) and it makes for a refreshing end-of-summer capper… Read the complete review clicking in the link

"The Wolfman is a decent film at best, which is a bit of a miracle considering all the shenanigans that went on during the making of this movie. Problems during any part of a movie production is expected on every film shoot, and on occasion, massive problems arise at every stage of production. What is surprising is when a movie goes through incredible turmoil during a production, and actually ends up being watchable. A low standard for sure, but a standard that many movies still fail to achieve."
