Raw video,July 16/08:David Novick, his friend and Novick's three kids managed to get to the gas station safe and sound, driving a couple blocks from his home down SR-50. He went there to buy cigarettes and passed out with his children, all under five years old, in the car.
Novick never saw the police coming. The 37-year-old Titusville man was out cold when they showed up. His three children were unbuckled in the back seat of the parked car. Police questioned whether there was something more than alcohol involved.
The single father was so out of it, not police, not a slap in the face and not even police removing his children could get him to wake up.
"Dave, they are taking the kids," Novick's friend told the passed-out dad.
When he finally did get out of the car, police said Novick failed a sobriety test and a breathalyzer indicated he had a blood alcohol level of .152, nearly twice the legal limit. He was arrested and charged with DUI, driving with a license suspended and, because there were three children in the car, three counts of child neglect.
The three small children were placed in the care of Novick's girlfriend.
"They miss him a whole bunch. They love their dad and he loves them. He's a really, really good dad. He is," said Novick's friend Shamra Sika.
Novick is being held in the Brevard County jail on $30,000 bond.

So what happens when a golf course accidentally books a youth golf tournament AND a strip club charity golf game at the same time? A hilariously sexy mishap!
Young golfers, ages 7 to 12, had not completed their Monday morning tournament before participants arrived in limousines for the Shotgun Willie's Charity Golf Tournament.
The latter event featured patrons of the strip club paired with dancers who served as caddies. Police later broke up the event after complaints from neighbors.

CHICAGO — Addressing a packed congregation at one of the city’s largest black churches, Senator Barack Obama on Sunday invoked his own absent father to deliver a sharp message to African-American men, saying, “We need fathers to realize that responsibility does not end at conception.”
“Too many fathers are M.I.A, too many fathers are AWOL, missing from too many lives and too many homes,” Mr. Obama said, to a chorus of approving murmurs from the audience. “They have abandoned their responsibilities, acting like boys instead of men. And the foundations of our families are weaker because of it.”
The speech was striking for its setting, and in how Mr. Obama, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, directly addressed one of the most sensitive topics in the African-American community: whether absent fathers bore responsibility for some of the intractable problems afflicting black Americans. Mr. Obama noted that “more than half of all black children live in single-parent households,” a number that he said had doubled since his own childhood.

Well it looks like the youth of today is pretty boring compared to the youth of yesterday. According to a new study from the Center for Disease Control US teens are having less sex, doing fewer drugs and smoking fewer cigarettes than those who grew up in the 1990s.
Unconfirmed reports claim the use of "sass mouth" is down a whopping 29%. Additionally, teenagers are also looking both ways before crossing the street, saying please and thank you 65% more often, and elder respect is at an all time high.

Police in southern Germany say they have removed a seven-month-old boy from his parents after they tried to sell him for one euro (US$1.57) over eBay.
Krumbach police spokesman Peter Hieber said baby Merlin has been put in care of youth services in the southwestern Allgaeu region and was doing well on Saturday.
Authorities have launched an investigation into possible child trafficking against the parents.
Hieber said the mother told police she had only intended the Internet ad as a joke. No offers were made for the child in the two hours and 30 minutes the ad was posted. Ebay deleted the posting afterward.

The May issue of Vanity Fair hits newsstands tomorrow, but it's already made the cover of the New York Post. The issue features a photograph of Miley Cyrus, star of the Disney Channel's mega-hit Hannah Montana, clutching a satin sheet to her otherwise naked torso. Cyrus quickly disavowed the photograph, which was taken by Annie Liebovitz.
But this whole scandal reminded Slate.com author Daniel Brook of an ad he had seen while on a reporting trip to China a few months back.
"I was walking from my Beijing bed-and-breakfast to a nearby subway station when I was stopped in my tracks by a billboard that made the controversial 1990s Calvin Klein underwear ads look artistic by comparison. Staring down at the throngs of shoppers on Beijing's Xinjiekou Nandajie Avenue, a busy commercial thoroughfare about a mile west of the Forbidden City, was a white girl who looked all of 12, reclining in a matching bra-and-panties set adorned with Disney's signature mouse-ear design. In a particularly creepy detail, the pigtailed child was playing with a pair of Minnie Mouse hand puppets. In the upper left-hand corner was the familiar script of the Disney logo."

This kind of story deserves its own new word: Chutzpidity. Because a guy in Minnesota had both in equal and voluminous supply for this particular scam. Over a full year, this guy bought nearly 200 games, worth more than $23,000, replaced them with blanks, got the refunds, then sold the real games on eBay. The re-sale netted him almost $19,000.
Now, while the alleged scammer was clever enough to forge a label on the blanks, and then repackage the games to make them look brand new (and also avoid an inspection that would discover the blanks) did he honestly think no one would notice 192 REFUNDS on a credit card and start asking questions? It takes enormous gall or a lack of brains, or both — hence chuzpidity — to keep going with this after getting $10K in tax-free ill-gotten booty and leaving a paper trail that stretches to Sioux Falls.
Someone finally did, and he was collared in October 2007. Best part? His 68-year-old mother is implicated too. She faces a single felony count of "theft by swindle," which is an awesome charge. If she was a dude I'd imagine her to look like Snidely Whiplash.

Cincinnati police have apprehended a group of thieves with a hankering for sweet treats after the team of candy culprits left a trail of wrappers. The thieves grabbed about $400 worth of sweets after breaking into the Peter Minges & Son candy store and even brought a seven-week-old baby along for the heist. CINCINNATI -- A 3-year-old girl is recovering with relatives as police try to determine who’s responsible for getting her drunk and injuring the child.
“This is a very serious case; it's troubling,” said Kenton County Prosecutor Ken Easterling.
The girl, whose name was not released, was treated Feb. 22 for serious injuries at Children’s Hospital, where investigators also discovered her blood-alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit for adults.
