When a woman like Hillary Clinton wears a scrunchie or fails to put on makeup it might or might not be news. It might be that she was in a country where downplaying her appearance might be more effective in earning respect. It might be, as she said, that she’s comfortable in her own skin and her own life. It might mean that with all she’s accomplished in her lifetime she thinks there are bigger topics of discussion than her hair. It might be a calculated effort on her part to bring the scrunchie back. You never know.

Just out of former Secretary of State, William Cohen's mouth, on Erin Burnett between 7: & 7:30 p.m., Oct. 21, 2011, "we're very disappointed" that after sacrificing the lives of so many Americans and emptying the U.S. taxpayer's national treasury, that U.S. oil companies are not getting much Iraqi oil, as Russia and China are! And, he says, this is not an isolated incident that after sacrificing America, it's money, and it's people for Big Oil in the Middle East, that other countries come in a grab up the oil contracts that U.S. Oil interests paid Congress to wage war for. Never, in my limited lifetime, have I personally heard and witnessed a former top U.S. official, inadvertently reveal that the reason for sacrificing American lives in the Middle East has been to secure contracts for U.S. oil companies. He literally acknowledges that we emptied our coffers for Big OIl in the Middle East, and it isn't paying off. Is not every single individual who participated in that fraud complicit in conspiracy to commit murder? If they lied to the soldiers who they sent to battle, and were murdered, about the reasons for sending them into battle, and did so for financial gain, is that not murder in the first degree by fraud, design and deceit?

Yesterday, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave a speech on internet freedom in which she argued that it was a critical part of US foreign policy. She called out a few countries by name for restricting their citizens' access the information online. China was one of them. Unsurprisingly, today China expressed its unhappiness with Mrs. Clinton's speech...
"...calling on the United States government “to respect the truth and to stop using the so-called Internet freedom question to level baseless accusations.”
Ma Zhaoxu, a Foreign Ministry spokesman, said in a written statement posted Friday afternoon on the ministry’s Web site that the criticism leveled by Mrs. Clinton on Thursday was “harmful to Sino-American relations.”
“The Chinese Internet is open,” he said.
Here's video of Mrs. Clinton's speech from yesterday.
The speech gives a new dimension to China's fight with Google. China has been making it out to be a business-only spat, but Clinton seems to have made it not just China vs. Google but China vs. US foreign policy.
Interestingly though, Joshua Keating at FP Passport thinks China's response was overblown and made Clinton look like she was being harder on China than she was:
It strikes me that Beijing could have issued a statement along the lines of, "Secretary Clinton is right to say that the United States and China have different views on this issue. We welcome her invitation to dialog but ask that the United States respect the sovereignty of our electronic space and unique political context. We are actively engaged in cracking down on criminals and extremists who take refuge in cyberspace."
Acting as if Clinton's temperate remarks amounted to a thrown gauntlet makes it appear to the outside world that they have something to be ashamed of. It doesn't seem like the response of a secure superpower.
If China is treating Clinton's speech like a 'thrown gauntlet', what will be the next step for the US? The Obama Administration up to now has been very reserved in its criticisms of China. Will criticism increase?

A man who resigned the Knott County judge-executive's office after being convicted in a vote-buying scheme has filed to run for the office again. Depending on what happens in the primaries, he could face the current judge-executive, who is awaiting results of an appeal in his own vote-buying case.
Each is from a different party, setting up the possibility that two felons will run against each other in the November election.
Donnie Newsome, a Democrat who resigned in 2005 after he lost an appeal in his vote-fraud case, filed to run for office in the past few weeks, said Knott County Clerk Kennith Gayheart. His civil rights were restored Aug. 27, 2008, by Gov. Steve Beshear, said Les Fugate, a spokesman for the Kentucky secretary of state's office. Newsome has voted since then and is an eligible candidate, Gayheart said.
Randy Thompson, who was appointed by then-Gov. Ernie Fletcher to fill Newsome's seat, was sentenced last year to 40 months in prison for a scheme to use county and state money for paving roads and private drives to influence the 2006 election. Thompson, who is free while his court case proceeds, became the first Republican ever to be elected to the Knott County office in 2006.
Newsome is running against two other Democrats in the May primary: Herbert Dean Hall of Kite and Ronnie Watts of Garner. Thompson, of Hindman, is running unopposed in the primary, according to the latest filings with the state elections board.A man who resigned the Knott County judge-executive's office after being... more

The New York Federal Reserve, under the direction of current Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, prohibited AIG from reporting that it was passing government bail-out funds directly to its buddies on Wall Street, most notably the criminal organization known as Goldman Sachs. More specifically, taxpayers were tapped (or their grand children were) to pay off bad gambling bets made by “counterparties” in the AIG derivatives casino. The mega-insurance corporation wanted banks to take 40 cents on the dollar against toxic CDOs (collateralized debt obligations). The banks turned to New York Fed mob boss Geithner who arranged an AIG sweetheart bailout with full knowledge the money would go to Goldman Sachs and the banksters to cover dollar-to-dollar protection of their gambling losses. Geithner did not report this to Securities and Exchange Commission on December 24. It was to be kept on the QT. In fact, before his confirmation hearings last year, Geithner was recused from matters dealing with specific companies and bailouts.
Last week details of this criminal conspiracy were fed into the corporate media spin machine. But instead of immediately arresting Geithner for grand larceny and having him do the perp walk in an orange jumpsuit like a common bank robber, it was suggested he merely be fired and another bankster crony fill his spot at the Treasury.
In fact, so-called lawmakers (who do not read bills before passing laws) support Geithner. On Sunday, Obama announced his unwavering faith in the former New York Fed boss, Bilderberg, CFR, and Trilateral member. “Secretary Geithner enjoys the strong support of the Senate Democratic caucus,” declared Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (who is under fire for calling Obama a “Negro,” a crime of more importance to the corporate media than a gaggle of banksters stealing trillions of dollars). Democratic leaders including Representative Barney Frank and House and Senate Democratic aides all support the second-story man Geithner and his bankster bosses.

US State Department workers have begged Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to let them use Firefox.
"Can you please let the staff use an alternative web browser called Firefox?" worker bee Jim Finkle asked Clinton during Friday's State Department town hall meeting.
"I just moved to the State Department from the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency and was surprised that State doesn’t use this browser. It was approved for the entire intelligence community, so I don’t understand why State can’t use it. It’s a much safer program."
Presumably, the State Department is using Microsoft's Internet Explorer. And we wouldn't be surprised if it's still mired in the eight-year-old IE6. The only thing that moves slower than Orange is a US government agency. But the State Department has yet to respond to our questions about its Firefox-less browsing mandate.US State Department workers have begged Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to let them... more

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton flew to Iraq on Saturday, stressing the Obama administration's commitment to the country as a series of horrific suicide bombings fanned fears about its precarious stability.
Clinton's visit -- including scheduled meetings with Iraqi leaders, citizens and the American military--was intended to show that the new U.S. government remains focused on Iraq even as it prepares to draw down its forces here.
"We want to display and reinforce our continuing commitment to the Iraqi people and to the stability, sovereignty and self-reliance of Iraq," Clinton told reporters on the eve of the trip, her first here as secretary of state.
Clinton flew into the Iraqi capital on an Air Force C-17 cargo jet for her unannounced visit. She arrived after two days of suicide bombings that left over 115 people dead in Baghdad and the northern province of Diyala.Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton flew to Iraq on Saturday, stressing the... more

Not only did Bill Clinton give us GMOs he gave us NAFTA as well that also killed biodiversity of corn in Mexico, by taking the lead of his predecessor Bush Sr (who jokingly was rated 18th as far as presidential greatness) who deregulated the industry. This is a well written and researched account of what went down and how we are now where we are: the complete control of our seeds and global food supply by Monsanto and a handful of biotech/chemical companies. And politicians of both parties have led us to this.
What was recently done in Iraq as well in regards to taking their seeds is a crime and the antithesis to the socalled 'democracy' we were supposed to be delivering under the guise of global hegemony. Wake up and make the connection between Bush, Clinton, Vilsack, the USDA, the FDA, and the Monsanto revolving door with our government and whatever your politics, demand that Monsanto's control over American food policy be ended.
This is one of the most important and crucial issues we now face in light of climate change, economic crisis, population, and specifically health. Diabetes has gone up 90% in the last 10 years, and as the links in this article show there appears to be a corrolation between that and GM/BT foods, specifically in children.
Just what do you consider important in this world? Continuing to read news about Lindsay Lohan's weight, cartoons, or whether kids like music better than sex? Or are we for once going to get to the heart of why media should exist in this country? To report the NEWS that effects our very survival so people know the truth? Not only did Bill Clinton give us GMOs he gave us NAFTA as well that also killed... more

Washington (AINA) -- US representatives Ana Eshoo and Frank Wolf have sent a letter to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, calling for protection for Iraq's Assyrians. The letter states:
"The Christian owner of a car repair shop was killed execution-style in Mosul, police said Saturday, raising concern about the possibility of new attacks against the religious minority in the northern Iraqi city."
This chilling excerpt came from an AP story last week. The targeted violence comes on the heels of attacks and intimidation last fall which prompted thousands of Iraqi Christians to flee their homes in fear.
This is not the first time we have seen targeted killings. We need look no further than the 2008 kidnap and murder of Archbishop Rahho of Mosul, an Assyrian Christian of the Chaldean Church, or Youssef Adel, an Assyrian Christian priest who was also fatally shot in a drive-by attack in April 2008. These high-profile killings are indicative of wider-scale persecution experienced by this suffering community. The numbers tell the story.
The lawmakers asked the Secretary to:
Among your first actions as Secretary, we urge you to facilitate the development of a comprehensive policy to address the unique plight of Iraq's struggling ethno-religious minorities, specifically the Christian community. Further, we ask, consistent with the recommendations of USCIRF, that you appoint a special envoy for human rights in Iraq to our Embassy in Baghdad, reporting directly to you to serve as the lead human rights official in Iraq for the United States.Washington (AINA) -- US representatives Ana Eshoo and Frank Wolf have sent a letter to... more

With new incoming POTUS Obama, already a few of his executive decisions are questionable. "The silence over this is itself remarkable. When Henry Kissinger was invited merely to co-chair the 9/11 Commission, the political left went bonkers about his foreign clients. Hillary Clinton today endorsed the use of "smart power" to reassert global US influence during an appearance before the US Senate foreign relations committee, which is considering her nomination as secretary of state.
Clinton indicated she would depart from the ideologically-driven foreign policy of the Bush administration and forge new alliances around the world.
"America cannot solve the most pressing problems on our own, and the world cannot solve them without America," she said. "I believe American leadership has been wanting, but is still wanted. We must use what has been called 'smart power', the full range of tools at our disposal. With 'smart power', diplomacy will be the vanguard of foreign policy."Hillary Clinton today endorsed the use of "smart power" to reassert global... more
