After 22 years, Diego Maradona has said he's sorry for the famous "Hand of God" goal that knocked England out of the 1986 World Cup.
The diminutive footballing genius has been a figure of hate in Britain since the handball incident, in which he palmed the ball past England goalie Peter Shilton and into the back of the net.
Maradona has never apologised for the cheeky move and claimed it had gone into the goal “a little with the head of Maradona and a little with the hand of God”.
This week though, he finally made amends, saying: "An English supporter came up to me this weekend, asked me for an autograph, and said, ‘You are a legend’.
"This made me very happy. Your people are so polite and kind despite the history between our countries.
"If I could apologise and go back and change history I would do. But the goal is still a goal, Argentina became world champions and I was the best player in the world."

The system was there to ensure that the World Cup would be hosted in different continents on a rotation system. What does it mean now that it has been abandoned? England 2018!!! It's coming home, it's coming home, ... football's coming home! Well, not necessarily, but it does mean that England can enter the bidding race to host the World Cup in 2018.
My favorite bit in this article is this bit
With the Olympics in 2012, possibly the Commonwealth Games in 2014, the Rugby World Cup in 2015 and the cricket World Cup in 2019, a football World Cup in 2018 would crown what I believe can be the greatest decade ever for British sport.
Weve got to be able to win something with all those competitions being held on home turf. The system was there to ensure that the World Cup would be hosted in different... more

2007 worldcupTo all my old fans, to all my new fans, and to those who find me disgraceful, I have felt compelled to clear the air regarding many of my postgame comments on Thursday night. I am not proud or happy the way things have come out. Although I stand strong in everything I said, the true disheartening moment for me was realizing it could look as though I was taking a direct shot at my own teamate. I would never throw such a low blow. Never. Many of this goes way beyond anyone's understanding, and is simply hard to justify. In my eyes there is no justification to put down a teamate...." read the whole thing by clicking on the link2007 worldcupTo all my old fans, to all my new fans, and to those who find me... more

There are at least two confirmed Soccer Elvises at the World Cup in Germany this year. They are reported to be rabid fans of the US soccer team. One of them is tall with lots of chest hair and the other one claims to be the Indian reincarnation of Elvis. Please be on the lookout for these Elvii.
