It seems that a new boom in the construction of large-scale facilities using renewable energy has started in the world. This week, in Australia largest in the southern hemisphere wind farm, capable of providing electricity to 220,000 homes has been launched. In Germany, by the end of April, the first block of flats feeding on algae energy will get commissioned. Neither does France stand aside where soon, construction of a fully autonomous powered stadium will begin. It seems that a new boom in the construction of large-scale facilities using renewable... more

A South Carolina mom has been busted after she gave birth in a stadium bathroom in the middle of a circus performance, then stuffed the newborn boy in the toilet, according to cops. The shivering baby was found gasping for breath some 90 minutes later by cleaning staff credited with saving his life. The 25-year-old married mom, who also has a 4-year-old child and no criminal record, was arrested when she appeared with family members at a police station house.
She has been charged with two counts of felony child abuse and unlawful neglect of a child, and could get 50 years in prison if convicted. "The family is very cooperative," a police spokesman told ABC News. "Their concern is the safety of the child." The baby is in good condition.

The London Olympic 2012 Games Organisers promised £20 million in airfares to pay for the travel of athletes and officials. They attempted to quietly withdraw from this commitment by the use of price caps and a distance formula. Countries without direct flights to London will be out of pocket having a greater effect on poorer countries especially those from Africa and the Pacific, who like Londoners are finding out that Olympic promises are easily broken. Zimbabwe’s Olympic committee secretary general Robert Mutsauki said the African nations would hold the London organisers to their promises. Good luck!

In their bid for the games London Olympic officials promised to keep an athletics track in the stadium.
Now, during a meeting in Acapulco, British Olympic Association chief executive Andy Hunt only “hoped” the Olympic stadium would retain a running track after the games- neatly side stepping the issue of empty promises by saying the decision was down to the mysterious “Olympic Park Legacy Company”.
Two Premier League football clubs, West Ham and Spurs, have made bids to move into the Olympic Stadium after 2012, but only West Ham’s bid includes keeping the running track.
Hunt made clear his determination to honour that promise telling AP . “Of course, we would love to see the provision of a truly world class athletics track….I think we’d all be disappointed if that didn’t happen.”
Fighting talk, might as well rip up the Spurs offer then.
If the London Olympic organisers keep none of their promises to Londoners (on jobs, on housing, on costs) will it be an Olympic record? Or does it happen where ever the five rings descend?
One way East Londoners could economically benefit from the games would be to put money with the bookies that the stadium will be home to Tottenham in 2013. I wonder what odds they are giving.

Spurs challenge how much the Olympic Legacy Company really want an athletics track.
Spurs, in conjunction with entertainment giant AEG, made a shock move last week to take over the stadium after the 2012 London Olympics. But the club do not want a track running around the outside of the pitch, a clause which could seriously hinder their attempt to move into the venue. Or will it?
Timothy Leiweke , chief executive of the club, claimed the Olympic Legacy company would be likely not to accept their bid in light of these circumstances. “I think it is a crime if you sacrifice having a perfect football stadium for convincing yourself you are going to do a track and field event every 10 years,” Leiweke was quoted as saying in the London Evening Standard.
AEG Europe chief executive David Campbell believes the athletics track is not a deal breaker. He claimed that any expressions of interest in the stadium which would decide the venue’s future, did not oblige bidders to retain the running track.
Will the promised Olympic “legacy” of an athletics track trump the money on offer? Will West Ham United regret promising to keep the track in their bid if Spurs win? Will the famous West Ham atmosphere survive the dead space of the track or will it become another loss in the litany of negative Olympic impacts on East London?

When fans at the massive new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas use their cell phones to make a call, check scores on the mobile web or post pictures to their Facebook pages, they're using Telecommunication Properties Inc.'s playbook for robust in-building wireless services.
TPI, an industry leader in distributed antenna systems (DAS) since its founding in 1985, has the challenging task of making sure all the cell phone signals and wireless data coming into and out of Cowboys Stadium gets to where it's supposed to go on Sundays in the fall. The company says it can put all the various players - sports arena owners, wireless providers, venue contractors and fans - on the same team thanks to its expertise in cell site location, antenna technology and wireless systems.

How the New Yankee Stadium Turned Parks into Parking Lots
From the article>>
When the Yankees opened their new stadium and pinstriped stars like Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera ran onto the field for the first time, the cheers of delirious New York fans echoed for miles. But to environmentalists and residents in surrounding neighborhoods, a Bronx cheer seems a more appropriate response to the new Yankee Stadium project, which they say isn’t nearly green enough, grass notwithstanding.
A baseball’s throw from the storied old yard that housed the Bronx Bombers from 1923-2008, the new Yankee Stadium opened to fanfare this spring. While the park accommodates fewer spectators (52,325, including standing room), it boasts more concessionaires, restrooms and nearly double the retail space of the old haunts. There are also more luxury suites: 56 instead of 19, plus 410 “party suites.”
The high-rolling Yankees have long led the major leagues in financial clout, and New York’s new $1.3 billion home looks like a license to print money. Front-row seats sell for $2,500 each and some fans are committing to season ticket plans for as long as 10 years.
But don’t expect to see parks advocates lined up at the turnstiles. They and some of the stadium’s Bronx neighbors are furious at the Yankees and the city for building over more than 25 acres of public parkland and cutting down 377 mature trees, 70% of the local tree population in a poor area that already had a sky-high asthma rate.
“I started crying when I saw security guarding a public park that they had seized,” says Geoffrey Croft, president of New York City Park Advocates and outspoken opponent of the stadium project. “Kids were crying while they chopped down these trees with no warning whatsoever.”
Critics cite among their grievances the secretive nature of the city’s deal to allow the Yankees to pave over popular Macombs Dam and John Mullaly parks, which was negotiated and signed before the public was informed, they say. Protests and legal actions against the project were unsuccessful.
“Everybody just loves the Yankees so much that they wouldn’t even consider what the people had to say,” says Karen Argenti, a board member of the Bronx Council for Environmental Quality, which also opposed the new stadium. “There were no elected officials who would stand up for the community. It was impossible to get a fair hearing.”
As part of the deal, the Yankees and New York City promised to replace the lost open space with multiple parks that will be individually smaller but greater in total combined acreage.
The bulldozed park.
“It’s never easy letting go of a nice old park,” says Josh Laird, assistant commissioner for planning of the New York Parks Department. “Macombs Dam Park had a nice stand of mature elm trees and others. We understand why people in the community had concerns with the project. But when we’re finished, they’ll have more and better parks.”
For instance, the old Yankee Stadium will be demolished to make room for the new Heritage Field, which will contain three fields for baseball and softball. The roof of the new stadium’s parking structure will be the new seven-acre Macombs Dam Park, replete with running track, basketball courts and fitness equipment. Other parks will have tennis courts, picnic areas, play equipment and green space.
None of the new parks are yet open. Heritage Field has suffered the greatest delay, and now looks to open in 2011.
Too little, too late, say park advocates. “These people lived across the street from a park where children had a chance to play. Now they live across from a stadium and a bunch of parking lots,” says Argenti.
The new $1.3 billion Yankee Stadium.
Also maddening is the delay in tearing down the old Yankee Stadium, especially when the city’s Mets left their old park at the same time and tore down Shea Stadium...How the New Yankee Stadium Turned Parks into Parking Lots
