Billboard and the Country Music Association combine to open the second annual Billboard Country Music Summit from June 6-7, in Nashville. Summit highlights feature a Superstar Q&A with Carrie Underwood, and the CMA Global Artist Party. But there will also be informative panels, artist showcases, keynote addresses delivered by industry leaders, networking mixers, and more. The Closing Cocktail Reception hosted by Sony Music Nashville.
A Meeting of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) will happen during the World Copyright Summit in Brussels, June 7-8. The occasion is an international and cross-industry event addressing the future of the creative community and the entertainment business in the digital economy. Some of the slated agenda addresses: legislation and dissemination of intellectual property and creative content, creation, licensing, usage, collective management, the value of creative works, the future of authors' rights, the role of creators and their collective management organizations.
Sheffield's DocFest is a documentary film industry event hosting an industry session program and marketplace, pitching opportunities, discussion panels and filmmaker masterclasses, as well as an assortment of documentary films from across the globe. In attendance are expected to be members of the British documentary industry, including documentary and factual producers, directors, buyers, commissioners and distributors. Competitions will be organized at Sheffield Doc/Fest, which runs from June 8-12, with most pitches participating. And on a less serious note, Sheffield Doc/Fest is thought to be the only film festival in the world with its own roller disco rink, open for a June 9 party with complimentary vodka supplied by Zorokowich.

Another week, another chart. This week returns us to some familliar artists at new spots and introduces a few more as they break into the upper reaches of Uncharted stardom. The show got a shoutout this week from Billboard Pro (tyvm) and thousands of views. We really appreciate those views and hope that you all like what we are doing with the show as it evolves.
In the next few weeks we are planning to expand the show by introducing our very own VJ to guide you through the weekly countdown. No final decision on who the VJ will be at this time but we do have several candidates in the running for the spot.
In related news, YouTube's "Digitour" kicked off last week to mixed reviews (depending on the source). Aparrently the writers either "got it" or they didn't but that hasn't slowed things down. The tour is scheduled to make stops in (I believe) 25 cities around the country so if you want to see your favorite youtube stars in person be sure to snatch up some tickets for your closest show before they are gone (tickets are $8 to $20 depending on the venue). I have heard some fairly reliable rumors that some of the stops on the tour will be featuring artists who are local to the event as well so come out to support your local musicians too!

File it under "Only in Russia", authorities in the Russian city of Nizhniy Novgorod recently put up roadside billboards featuring a dummy covered in fake blood that appears to have crashed in an attempt to curb drinking and driving.
Featuring a dummy covered in fake blood that appears to have crashed through the billboards, they certainly illustrate a clear point while serving as a grim reminder to potential drunk drivers. The English translation of the Russian text attached to the billboard is roughly
"Your body could have been here".
The officials got creative when building the billboard, adding a Santa Hat and putting a steering wheel in the dummy's hands.
Although the billboards are extreme, they serve as a creative solution to a serious problem. Drunk driving is a major factor in many Russian car accidents, more so since 2003 when Russia moved the legal BAC limit from 0.00 to 0.05.

The billboards are actually covert ads for the midseason return of The CW’s Vampire Diaries, whose slogan is going to urge fans in the coming days to “Catch VD.” Yup, in between ads for The Disney Store and Mamma Mia, the network is recommending people to run out and get a venereal disease.*
Turns out the ads are just Phase One in a campaign to promote the show’s return on Jan. 27. Soon the text-only ads will be replaced by billboards showing this:
Annnnd that image doesn’t really make it better, does it?
This isn’t the first time The CW’s marketing department has pushed the envelope — remember the Parents Television Council jumping all over the network’s “OMFG” ads for Gossip Girl?
Or its “Menage a Tues” ads for Melrose Place?
Asked for comment, The CW’s spokesperson released this statement: “VD simply stands for Vampire Diaries, and anyone who thinks otherwise should probably get themselves checked out.”

Now in its 15th year, Durango Songwriter’s Expo is a bi-annual musical event held in Colorado and in Santa Barbara, wine country. The October 7-9 event in Broomfield promises golf enthusiasts among its songwriting workshop participants a 27-hole championship golf course, as well as the Mokara Spa for use of massage, body treatment, sauna, fitness room, steam room and inhalation room. As usual, Expo enrollment is limited to 200 participants to provide greater attention from the music industry professionals conducting the sessions.
At this year’s Chicago International Film Festival, October 7-21, ‘Stone’, directed by John Curran, with Robert De Niro and Edward Norton, will be screened, and following the screening VIP ticket holders will be treated to a reception with a full bar and appetizers at theWit Hotel. The Awards Night on October 16, features cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and an awards presentation honoring this year’s winning filmmakers in the Main Competition, New Directors Competition, Docufest, Short Films, and Intercom competitions, set in the Pump Room of the Ambassador East Hotel.
ShowBiz Expo is the annual event held on both West Coast and East Coast presenting many opportunities to network, build contacts, and be cast in upcoming productions. The New Orleans Film Society hosts the 20th Annual New Orleans Film Festival, Louisiana's preeminent film event. Established in 1981, the Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF), running October 14-24 in Honolulu, is dedicated to the advancement of understanding and cultural exchange among the peoples of Asia, the Pacific and North America through the medium of film. An October 18 Variety Entertainment and Technology Summit in Santa Monica, co-produced by Variety and Digital Hollywood, has in-depth discussions and networking focusing on the top business issues facing technology in entertainment today. After a welcome and introduction by Variety Publisher, Brian Gott, former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Walt Disney Company, and Founder of The Tornante Company, Michael Eisner, delivers the opening keynote. The sprawling CMJ 2010: Music Marathon & Film Festival arrives in New York City, October 19-23. The Guardian compares the technology to a similar creation placed into the Minority Report movie, where an advertising board shouted advice to the main character.
Though there is a slight difference, since the billboard with built in facial recognition software will recognise your gender and age and use the information to show the viewer a relevant advert. There is a reported 85-90% accuracy with the billboards tech.

A clever use of bees and advertising to highlight the issue over a decline bee population. Daily What links to the Plan Bee campaign which aims to kick 2010 into rebuilding the bee population.
" 1. Bees contribute £200m a year to the UK economy through pollination. Examples of foods pollinated by bees.
2.Bee numbers in the UK have halved over the last 20 years. Last year alone a fifth of bee colonies did not survive the winter.
3.No-one knows for certain what is causing bee losses. Explanations include: bad weather, pesticides, importing of non native bee species, viruses and a mite called Varroa.
4.Neonicontinoids are a group of pesticides that have been linked to bee declines elsewhere in Europe. Sign our petition.
