A billboard showing President Barack Obama wearing a turban has sparked a lot of attention at the suburban Denver used car dealership that put it up.
The sign, completed Friday by artist David Lee, shows a grinning, cartoonish Obama and bears the words "PRESIDENT or JIHAD?"
Underneath the president's image is a big yellow square with the phrase, "BIRTH CERTIFICATE, PROVE IT!"
The words "WAKE UP AMERICA! REMEMBER FT. HOOD" appear at the bottom of the billboard at Wolf Interstate Leasing and Sales, about seven miles west of Denver. The sign is visible from Interstate 70.
Lee said there were plenty of honks as he painted it.
"One lady came by and gave me the 'shame, shame' look," said Lee, of Arvada, another suburb of Denver.
Dealership owner Phil Wolf was unavailable for comment Friday, but General Manager Wayne Means said the business has seen strong opinions about its sign.
"We've had people come by and say, 'Keep it up.' We've had people come by and say, 'Take it down,'" Means said. "We can have differences of opinion. This is America."

Despite playing in Chickenfoot and getting read to introduce his latest project, Chad Smith's Bombastic Meatbats, the famous drummer told Billboard that the Red Hot Chili Peppers would reunite in October:
"Everybody was like, 'Y'know, I really like having this time off, not being a Chili Pepper and doing other things...It'll be two years in September, so now we're ready. You can't force people to play when they don't want to play or aren't ready to play or whatever -- not in our band, anyway."
Smith expects bassist Flea and guitarist John Frusciante may come in with some musical ideas, but the group will mostly likely "do a lot of improvising and jamming and songs will come out of that, too. That's what we usually do. I don't know why it would be different."Despite playing in Chickenfoot and getting read to introduce his latest project, Chad... more
A shop owner has said he was threatened with prosecution after displaying joke billboards at his store in Horsham.
John O'Sullivan, who owns the Candy Box, put up spoof news headlines outside his store for 10 weeks in an attempt to entertain his customers.
The spoof headlines included "Crawley Girl Gives Birth to Pitbull" and "Local Youths Abduct UFO".
Sussex Police denied he was threatened with arrest but the local council said it had asked him to take one sign down.
Mr O'Sullivan said: "The policewoman came in and was very strict and said the boards have got to stop. She asked if I realised I could be arrested.
"If everyone hated them and thought they were wrong I would stop but people are laughing at them."
But the local council said it had asked Mr O'Sullivan to remove one of the posters.
A spokesman for Horsham District Council said: "We can confirm that the council has received recent complaints about what has been written on the A-board outside the shop.
"As a message posted there was considered to be potentially offensive, a street scene officer from the council asked for its removal."
The latest sign on display reads "Candy Box Owner Threatened with Arrest over Funny Boards" and Mr O'Sullivan has vowed to continue displaying the tongue-in-cheek adverts.
Candy Box customer Shirley Arlington said: "It's crazy. John's just having a laugh and he's making other people laugh too."A shop owner has said he was threatened with prosecution after displaying joke... more

"The Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles Sales rundown is the oddest and most anachronistic of Billboard's charts, tracking sales of commercial singles—physical product, not downloads—in the urban market. In past years, the chart closely mirrored the regular Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs countdown, packed with hits by major label superstars like 50 Cent, Mariah Carey, and, yes, Beyoncé. But as sales of CD singles have dwindled (most major labels have ceased production of CD singles altogether), the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles Sales chart has become a sales log, primarily, of 12-inch maxi-singles—good old-fashioned vinyl records.
As such, it is a chart dominated by unsigned regional artists, who favor a sweat-and-shoe-leather predigital model of promotion, marketing their records to club DJs. The sales figures involved are probably minuscule. In other words, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles Sales is the most indie chart imaginable, a record not of commercial success, exactly, but of bootstrapping, song-plugging effort. Fourteen-year-old Lauren Ashley may or may not follow in the footsteps of fellow Houstonian Beyoncé. But last week, the 12-inch of Ashley's "Ambulance" outsold "Halo." Does Ashley have a fast-talking uncle, peddling these records out of the back of the van? If so, he done good.""The Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles Sales rundown is the oddest and most anachronistic of... more
"These days the Asher Roth show begins after the concert is over. In late March Mr. Roth performed at the Sherman Theater here for East Stroudsburg University’s “I ♥ College” week. By 10:30 p.m. he was offstage, and the obstacle course began.
First came the well-wishers and the weed smokers, who kept this young rapper occupied for a long time in the basement dressing room. Then, outside the theater, came the frat boys, beers in hand. Was Mr. Roth, they wondered, man enough to party with them? Then there was the guy in the gray sedan who trailed Mr. Roth’s caravan back to the Budget Inn & Suites just to see what was going on. After that a return to town: house party crashed, beer pong played, pictures snapped.
“I have to embrace this role of ‘Asher Roth’ now,” he said the following morning in the hotel’s empty restaurant, wearing the same white T-shirt and grayish jeans as the night before and straining a bit after just a few hours’ sleep. “If I continue to behave this way, sure, people are going to love me, but I’m going to be run down into the ground.”
Mr. Roth is taxed because of another morning after, the one described in the woozy party anthem “I Love College,” his debut single, which has sold almost a million copies to date, peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has been streamed more than 30 million times on his MySpace page. It’s a wistful look back at his slacker student years: “I can’t tell you what I learned from school/But I could tell you a story or two.” In the video Mr. Roth winds his way through a surrealist frat party, dancing with people in animal suits, making out with girls and grinning madly.
This combination of geniality and mischief is the mood Mr. Roth strikes in person as well. “I have no real gimmick,” he said, shrugging. Raised by a father who is the executive director of a design firm and an herbalist-astrologer-yoga-teacher mother, he’s unfailingly affable, with a bit of Ferris Bueller-style naughtiness thrown in. And with his excellent, versatile debut album, “Asleep in the Bread Aisle” (SchoolBoy/SRC/Universal), out this week, he will become the most commercially viable white rapper since Eminem. It’s territory littered with land mines: questions of authenticity and cultural appropriation.""These days the Asher Roth show begins after the concert is over. In late March Mr.... more
