After a three-week vacation, The Daily Show returned Monday night and looked like a show that had just missed three weeks of news.
It’s still catch up time for Jon Stewart and crew, but last night the show was spot on in a takedown of ACORN – and the reporters who didn’t break the story.
While crossing into Fox News/Glenn Beck territory, Stewart first turned his attention to the stars of that first ACORN tape. Joking about it being an isolated incident, Stewart said, “It’s Baltimore – I’ve seen The Wire, the place is a shithole!”
But there was the D.C. tape, then the New York City tape. (He’s still one behind.) Then he looked at who broke the story – the fresh faced up-and-comers James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles. And who was way behind.
“You’re telling me that two kids from the cast of ‘High School Musical 3′ can break this story with a video camera and their grandmother’s chinchilla coat, and you got nothing?” said Stewart of the mainstream media. “I’m a fake journalist, and even I’m embarrassed these guys scooped me.”
As more information comes out – and more action is taken against ACORN – the mainstream media is forced to cover the story. But it is true that despite efforts by Fox News and others on the right to “expose” ACORN even before the presidential election, no real results were seen until O’Keefe and his hidden camera took to the offices, and YouTube (and BigGovernment.com). And without the results, the mainstream media, and The Daily Show stayed silent. It’s a testament to the work of O’Keefe for the change. After a three-week vacation, The Daily Show returned Monday night and looked like a... more
Jon Stewart went toe to to with the architect of the "death panels" argument on last night's Daily Show. Betsy McCaughy showed up completely unprepared, and looked extremely unprofessional. Jon brushed aside his self deprecating style for a few minutes and blasted her with a well understood reading of the actual bill, and dispelled her lies about the legislation.

Back in the early 1990's, Betsy McCaughey wrote "No Exit," an article for The New Republic on the Clinton administration's healthcare reform plan. The piece was filled with falsehoods -- so many, in fact, that the magazine later disowned it. But by then, it was too late; McCaughey and her article had played an instrumental role in killing the Clinton proposal.
Now, she's back, and is again the chief propagator of some of the most pernicious myths about the Obama administration's plan.
McCaughey's latest falsehoods have taken hold with a disturbingly large portion of the American public. But she couldn't get them past "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart, who had her on his show Thursday night and subjected her to one of his better interviews, meticulously picking her points apart and demonstrating their inaccuracy, leaving her stumbling and stammering in an attempt to defend her position. By the end of it, he told her, "I like you -- but I don't understand how your brain works."
Two videos of the interview are below; both are extended beyond what was actually aired on television.Back in the early 1990's, Betsy McCaughey wrote "No Exit," an article... more

Neoconservative commentator Bill Kristol returned to The Daily Show last night to have another one of his affable-yet-contentious tete-a-tetes with host Jon Stewart. On the one hand, it's pretty clear that the thought of sparring with Kristol sharpens Stewart's interviewing game.Maybe he takes perverse pleasure in getting abused by the Daily Show's audience, or maybe beating up on the glass-jawed Fox News colleague Juan Williams on a weekly basis just gets ridiculously old. At any rate, last night's highlight was the way Stewart managed to steer Kristol into complimenting government-run health care.Neoconservative commentator Bill Kristol returned to The Daily Show last night to have... more
Stewart then interviews Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, and asks him tough questions like how he handles climate change deniers: "As a scientist, can you physically when you get angry, bust out of your clothes and get really big and destroy them as The Incredible Secretary Chu?"
Stewart then exclaims: "You're the first Cabinet member I've met from the Obama Administration that seems alive! "

Jon Stewart committed a lengthy opening segment to President Obama's speech in the Middle East last night. Jon Stewart might be "uncomfortable with emotion" -- an admission he made to lead off last night's show. But you know what is in his comfort zone? Schoolin' fools. Fools like RNC head Michael Steele, who's latest rationalization for opposing gay marriage is that it would hurt small businesses. I know! I know! You're intrigued! In a brilliant segment from the "Daily Show"'s Senior Obamaist, Wyatt Cenac, we finally find out who Obama really is. The mysterious and popular president is, in fact, the lovable TV dad Cliff Huxtable from the family sitcom "The Cosby Show." As Cenac points out, both men are married to hot lawyers, both work out of offices on the West sides of their houses and both have unrealistically cute daughters.
The comparisons don't stop there--they're not just surface coincidences! Both men like hosting jazz musicians in their homes, inviting Stevie Wonder to appear with them in public, and beating girls at basketball.
What does this tell us about the president that we didn't already know? "The Cosby Show" ran for eight seasons--that's two terms! Also, Obama may, at some point, replace one of his daughters with a less cute cousin or something. In a brilliant segment from the "Daily Show"'s Senior Obamaist, Wyatt... more

Poor Larry Wilmore, he's so sad that Obama is ruining black jokes. He says it's hard to do outsider humor, when the man in charge is of your race. Jon Stewart tried to comfort him saying, "race relations are still very troubled." There aren't many analogies, sports or otherwise that would accurately describe the drubbing Jim Cramer took at the hands of John Stewart. The term world class ass kicking does come to mind however. An epic fail of this magnitude is better termed a universal apocalyptic failure. Or to put it succinctly, Stewart put his foot in Cramer's ass and MARCHED.
Even with the massive beating you have to give Mr Cramer credit for going into the lions den and taking it like a man. This whole process started when Rick Santelli of CNBC proclaimed a room for of white stock traders the typical example of America as a whole. Then he proceeded to declare home owners in trouble at this point in our economic crisis - "losers". Mr Stewart, like many others called him out on it and invited him on his show to respond. That punk Satelli, who doesn't even have the balls Mr Cramer has left after facing Mr Stewart flaked out on the invitation and ignited the feud that ultimately lead to the national spanking witnessed on the Daily Show last Thursday. There aren't many analogies, sports or otherwise that would accurately describe... more

Jon Stewart hammered Jim Cramer and his network, CNBC, in their anticipated face-off on "The Daily Show," repeatedly chastising the "Mad Money" host for putting entertainment above journalism.
"I understand that you want to make finance entertaining, but it's not a ... game," Stewart told Cramer, adding in an expletive during the show's Thursday taping. The episode was scheduled to air at 11 p.m. EDT on Comedy Central.
It was perhaps the hardest lashing Stewart has given to a TV commentator since 2004 when he called Tucker Carlson and his then co-host Paul Begala "partisan hacks" on CNN's "Crossfire," the since canceled political commentary program.Jon Stewart hammered Jim Cramer and his network, CNBC, in their anticipated face-off... more
