I am still trying to figure out HOW and WHEN soundness of mind was laid to rest in America. I know a lot of foul incidents that heavily strained America’s sanity, occurred during the 8 long years of the Cheney/Bush’s reign of 9/11 terror that we are still reeling from but I thought with their departure, we-the-people had emerged from their fiasco of not caring what happened to America as long as it made billionaires, multi-billionaires, a bit stronger and wiser. NO SUCH LUCK!
In the aftermath of all the chaos caused by the relentless disregard of our nation and its people by the Cheney/Bush mismanagement group, a grassroots movement evolved. They claimed they were angry. They claimed they were distressed. They claimed Government was causing all their pain therefore they should shrink it down to a size so small that it can drown in a bathtub. But all their claims were meaningless, what they really were upset about was the 2008 GOP loss to Barack Obama (a black man) that, they could not tolerate.
When the wealthy corporatist got wind of all this anger and hate they decided to capitalize and benefit from so much unbridled scorn, so the grassroots Tea Party movement was seized and became a tool for the 1% to regain some of the power they lost during the 2008 election. They shelled out millions to corral this populous discontent in order to get their sycophants elected. First they renamed their toadies Tea Party members and the populous grassroots Tea Party joiners were swept off their feet, believing everything they were hearing as truth. Thus, the GOP’s big win of the house and almost the senate plus the many govenitorial races in 2010. Once in, they threw off their sheep’s clothing and donned their wolf outfits again.
Now with this government takeover of the house and the newly planted state governors by the 1%, along with the Citizens United, Corporations are People, decision by their 5 Supreme Court groupies, the 1% were all set to finalize their dreams of a world takeover. They threw everything in the pot which included, all the worn-out social issues that use to work like charms before the collapse of the economy. Religion, Gay Marriage Rights, Women’s Reproductive Rights, Taxes, 9/11 (oops, they couldn’t use that any longer because they milked it to death). You know all those issues that make the indoctrinated very, very mad and eager to vote against their own best interests.
So, I guess with my ranting on, I’ve answered my own question of HOW and WHEN soundness of mind was laid to rest in America… It came to pass, when the 1% so easily (too easily) took over the minds and rationale of those who live in a religious and prejudice world of darkness.

Unfortunately, during his week off from "The Daily Show" last week, he was presented with yet another Nazi analogy courtesy of Fox News -- this time in reference to President Obama's birth control policy.

Last night during an appearance on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Massachusetts senatorial candidate Elizabeth Warren explained why the federal government no longer invests in building up the middle-class. You know, if you're in the drug business, and you are selling prescriptions to seniors, and you don't want to have to negotiate over the prices, Washington works beautifully for you.
If you want subsidies to drill for oil, Washington is working for you.
If you run a hedge fund and want to pay the lowest possible taxes, Washington is working for you.
In fact, there was recently a study, just in the last couple of weeks, there was a study in which it comes out that thirty of the largest companies in the United States are now spending more on lobbying than they pay in federal taxes.
Think about that. I mean that is the investment, and that's what they see as the future.

Politicians and pundits often say that Washington, D.C. is broken. However, the truth is that Washington works just fine for large corporations. These corporations invested heavily in influencing public policy, and it paid off handsomely for them. Everyone else just got left behind in the process.
Elizabeth Warren gets this, and it is yet another reason why we need her in the U.S. Senate.

So I guess it becomes a game of trying to interpret Stephen’s wishes from his on-air appearances (similar to Newt Gingrich’s recent plea through the press to his Super PAC to pull or correct their recent hit piece on Mitt Romney), like his weekend interview with George Stephanopoulos, where Colbert mentioned something about Queen Isabella, Italy, and the spice routes, which Jon interpreted as a call to blow a wad of money on a meal prepared by top celebrity chef Mario Batali.

One of the more hysterical asides of the Republican circus act, better known as the GOP presidential primary season, is watching the non-Mittens candidates fall all over themselves as they try to take the seemingly intractable, life-size Ken Doll/Human/Alien hybrid down. While no one is thrilled with Mitt Romney, least of all the voters, his competition still can’t seem to topple him.

On New Year's Eve, President Obama signed into law a bill that eliminates one of the fundamental protections of the U.S. Constitution:
The right for people not to be detained indefinitely by the government without being formally convicted of crimes.
This erosion of the Constitution, which came in the form of new language in the annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), allows the government to hold anyone suspected of being associated with terrorism indefinitely, without any form of due process.
No indictment.
No judge or jury.
No evidence.
No trial.
Just an indefinite jail sentence.
In other words:
If someone in the government suspects that you're somehow associated with terrorism, you can be jailed indefinitely in a military prison.
Defenders of this language — including Senators John McCain (R) and Carl Lavin (D), who sponsored it — position it as being tough on terrorism.
And that's fine: Everyone wants to be tough on terrorism.
There are ways of being tough on terrorism that preserve basic rights. Unfortunately, this isn't one of them.
If the government and military never made mistakes--if they never suspected people of being associated with terrorism who aren't actually associated with terrorism--then this language wouldn't be so scary.
But, like anyone else, governments and armed-forces personnel do make mistakes.
Frequently.
So removing the intelligent and reasonable requirement that government suspicions be subjected to due process is frightening.
Of course, in signing the bill, President Obama promised that he would never use it to detain Americans.
While that's comforting, other Presidents may not feel compelled to honor that promise. And human-rights activists who don't believe that basic human rights apply only to American citizens are justifiably upset that America can now detain anyone indefinitely without due process.
(And, by the way, the common pushback that the bill cannot be used to detain Americans is a crock. The bill clearly states that Americans are not "required" to be detained indefinitely. Not being "required" to do something, and "preventing" something are quite different.)
To be clear: This bill isn't just tough on terrorism. It overturns a key part of the Constitution. And it presumes that those who serve in the government and military are always omniscient and perfect and will always use their power for the good of all citizens.
And that presumption, as everyone who has ever watched our government in action knows, is laughable.
Will America be transformed into a brutal police-state by this one bill? Probably not. But the constitutional protections and other checks-and-balances that separate democracies from authoritarian states are rarely eliminated in one fell swoop.
Rather, theses protections are eliminated gradually, by governments and rulers who incrementally grant themselves ever more power.
Taken individually, each incremental change may seem well-meaning and justifiable.
But, gradually, the checks-and-balances that form the basis of a fair society are eliminated.
In signing the NDAA bill, President Obama was presumably yielding to political expediency. The bill, after all, had military funding attached.
But that's no excuse.
The Presidential veto is supposed to function as a critical check-and-balance in our system, to be invoked when Congress collectively goes insane.

Monday night's "Daily Show" dealt with President Barack Obama officially launching his 2012 re-election campaign, to Jon Stewart's delight.
"He's not breaking up with us!" he squealed.
But the campaign video President Obama released on Friday lacked the vigor and inspiration of his 2008 campaign. Instead, he featured seemingly exhausted supporters who, in Stewart's opinion, don't seem to like him or trust him, but ask "what are you going to do?"
"How do we go from 'Yes we can' to 'You know, whatever'?," Stewart asked
But it's harder than it looks to seek re-election. In 2008 Obama said he wanted transparency and accountability in the White House, but now it's hard for him to run on the same platform. In fact, he recently received a transparency award and didn't invite the press. Stewart kind of understood what was going on there:
"When you were running for the White House, you wanted to know what the White House was hiding. Maybe guys like Bill and Jon simply don’t know that using chimps in gratuitous efforts to promote their products actually hurts conservation education efforts. Maybe they don’t know how hard ‒ and how passionately ‒ animal welfare advocates are working to get marketers and filmmakers to stop exploiting chimps for crass commercialism. Or maybe they just don’t care.
Bill Maher has recently resurrected an ad with three chimps wearing Santa hats and religious necklaces, to promote his movie about religion. Jon Stewart’s use of a chimp in an office setting is even more enduring than Maher’s ad. For the cover of his book, Earth (The Book), Jon is pictured with Ricky, a circus chimp, sitting at a desk.
Animal welfare advocates have trouble convincing the public that chimpanzees are endangered. According to studies, this public ignorance is likely the result of media misportrayals of chimpanzees in movies, television and advertisements. When people see images of chimpanzees in typically human settings (such as an office space), or wearing human garb, they are more likely to perceive wild populations as being stable and healthy.
In other words, ads like those used by Maher and Stewart hurt our ability to convince the public that chimps are endangered and need our protection.
Their use of chimpanzees for product promotion is wrong. We expect better from them.Maybe guys like Bill and Jon simply don’t know that using chimps in gratuitous... more

It really is kind of disturbing to think that Newt Gingrich is sitting atop the polls in the race for the GOP presidential nomination, because he’s just…bad. He’s ill-tempered, mean-spirited, self-serving, self-aggrandizing, and every word that comes crawling out of his mouth just oozes with contempt and dickishness.

Jon Stewart discusses Mitt Romney's "devastating" attack on Newt Gingrich's Moon bases during the ABC debate and, like everyone else, Jon Stewart spent plenty of time discussing the $10,000 Mitt Romney bet with Rick Perry, but the host also returned to a familiar narrative: Ron Paul may have "killed it" at the debate, but what kind of press did he get from it? Paul supporters know how this one ends. As Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich duked it out in the first few minutes of the segment, Stewart shifted gears to Paul, making it seem like there was a different ending for the candidate this time. "How well did Ron Paul do?" he asked.
Stewart then rolls the clip with Paul speaking with David Gregory, who--in his Daily Show edit, at least--can't seem to ask him about anything other than Newt-Romney and if he'll endorse someone. Not usually what a candidate would expect to hear on a talk show after a decent debate....

In their minds, the constant onslaught of Christmas imagery, programming and commercials during the months of November and December is simply not good enough; the salutation of “Happy Holidays” is a slap in the face to their sweet Baby Jesus and an insult to their religion, because, according to them, it’s their world, we’re just living in it.

When a bill passes through Senate with a 93-7 vote, you wouldn't expect there to be a provision essentially eliminating due process. But that's what happened when the 2012 defense appropriations bill was passed this month, much to Jon Stewart's chagrin.
In a two-part segment on Wednesday night's "Daily Show," Stewart slammed the bill, which details expenses for our armed forces, for including a provision that would allow for anyone -- including Americans -- suspected of terrorism to be locked up indefinitely without a trial. You know, because the fourth amendment is more like a "suggestion."

Highlights of Republican candidates disgusting pandering, as well pointing out at the end Ron's exclusion noting "Good call not inviting any presidential candidates to your forum who might 'disagree' with you. Wouldn't want to turn it into a 'debate'. You know, if there's one thing Jews can't stand...it's 'arguing.
