Twenty miles away from LA, a Hollywood director/screenwriter/actor and his wife have created an entirely organic refuge where they appreciate the more simple things in life.
Where can folks take that compostable dishware? It doesn’t decompose in a regular compost pile, but instead requires very high temperatures to break down, which you’re really only going to get in a commercial facility.Where can folks take that compostable dishware? It doesn’t decompose in a... more

I added this as a response to another post but though that it also deserves its own post I think. In this video, Geoff Lawton describes his work in the country of Jordan. Jordan is an incredibly dry and is already using unsustainable amounts of water. Soon they will run out. Despite this, they continue to use monoculture methods that are water and chemical intensive. Lawton proposes that permaculture design can restore degraded land and make once again productive, not just in the short term but forever. Instead of working against nature, permaculturists work with narture to restore degraded soils and build fertility.
We get bogged down in fear, anxiety and hatred towards those that disagree with our points of view. Sometimes it seems like there are no solutions to the problems around us. Permaculture is my vaccination against that fear.I added this as a response to another post but though that it also deserves its own... more

Started in 1962, The Park is a 30-acre site that was once a caravan park (part of it still is!) but now is the hub of a growing ecovillage and spiritual community. Park is a work in progress, as each year more caravans are replaced with ecologically sound alternatives, from yurts, to eco-mobile homes, to state of the art projects such as straw bale housing. There are approximtately 300 residents living on The Park, with up to 100 more people visiting at any time.
The environment reflects experimentation, innovation, beauty and practicality, and looks as diverse as the population that inhabits it. There are 90 ecological structures including houses, workshop spaces, The Living Machine sewage treatment centre and electricity-generating wind turbines. The Park also features gardens, the Universal Hall arts centre and is home to a variety of holistic businesses and initiaives. It is beautifully situated on a peninsula with Findhorn Bay on one side and the dunes and coast of the Moray Firth on the other, and the village of Findhorn at its tip.
The community at The Park is an ongoing experiment in conscious living. The community are host to many Findhorn Foundation workshops and events, providing a unique environment for experiential learning.

This short film is part of "The Journey" an unique documentary project that delves into environmental, socio-culture and economic issues, with a questioning mind.
The focus of the project is to find and film inspiring ideas and projects over a wide spectrum of individuals and cultures, whilst examining our ability to reform our ideals, and our lifestyle in order to make positive changes for our planet and the human race.
The Journeymen (a person whom travels in order to gain experience, skills and knowledge) go in search of these stories - equipped only with minimal filming gear and personal possessions, they document their experience as they travel to global communities to observe, question and learn.
It is an organic process that grows, evolves and takes its own direction. With no planned route nor destination, the journeymen believe they will connect with the right people and places at the right time to film, aid and guide them on.
The project is currently filming and traveling through the UK. As the project travels short films are uploaded that can be viewed on this website. It is the long-term goal that this project will travel internationally to create a feature length film that will be released, to be viewed for free.
The projects aims to benefit individuals, projects and communities by sharing knowledge, offering solutions and connecting people through film.
It is the hope this project will touch and inspire people, by conveying the beauty within human nature and our world and resonating what is actually possible, when it comes it comes to our ability to change the world for the better.

Ecolonie has just celebrated its 20th birthday. This ecological community is located in the North of France, in the last 10 years the community have developed their self -sustainability, spreading the community out 40 hectares of land, and incorporating goat farming and cheese production into their vision. The philosophy of the community is grounded in the belief of living in harmony with nature, and aims to be a European centre where different cultures meet in a friendly, open atmosphere.
