Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien says the group will start recording a full-length disc this winter, squashing rumours that they'd given up making albums.
In August, Thom Yorke gave an interview in which he said In Rainbows would their last studio album. As you'd expect, the press and bloggers went crazy over the news and it was widely covered.
But O'Brien claims it was actually a misunderstanding. "We were misquoted," he said in an interview with NME, referring to the article that ran earlier this year in which Thom Yorke said, "None of us want to go into that creative hoo-ha of a long-play record again...It'll kill us."Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien says the group will start recording a full-length disc... more

Found this on Prefixmag.com this week - my favorite new track of the week!
Check out the rest of my picks on the click-thru....
1. Of Montreal, "Love Hangover" ft. Janelle Monae (Live Diana Ross Cover) (MP3) (AR: Audio quality not great, but some real soul bleeding through here. And Janelle Monae killing it.)
2. Aloe Blacc, "Very First Time" (MP3) (AR: Having seen Aloe perform live, I didn't hear/see this side of him. He's got flow, and particularly dig the harpsichord (that's my guess) backing him...)
3. Thom Yorke, "Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses" (Stream) (AR: It's got a synth hook, but to warn you, it's a bit experimental. Which means, repeat listens on the horizon. Check out "The Hollow Earth," too, for some Kid A beats.)
4. Air, "So Light Is Her Footfall" (Stream) (AR: New Air is simultaneously transporting us back to lounge parties in the 70s, and lulling us into an easy mood in the 00s.)
5. Kings of Convenience: "Boat Behind" (Video) (AR: The Norse bring a French pop feel and a road trip video. True escapism.)Found this on Prefixmag.com this week - my favorite new track of the week!

Radiohead have released a new song about World War One last surviving British soldier Harry Patch, who died last week at 111-years-old, as a download selling for £1, with the proceeds going to the British Legion.
On DeadAirSpace, Radiohead's site, Thom Yorke a moving radio interview he'd heard Patch give.
"I had heard a very emotional interview with him a few years ago on the Today program on Radio4.
The way he talked about war had a profound effect on me.
It became the inspiration for a song that we happened to record a few weeks before his death.
It was done live in an abbey. The strings were arranged by Jonny.
I very much hope the song does justice to his memory as the last survivor."

And it's not just a rumour this time. New Moon director Chris Weitz confirmed the news in an interview at Comic-Con. Weitz has yet to listen to the songs Bon Iver and Thom Yorke wrote for the Twilight sequel, but he's pretty sure they will be included in the soundtrack.
"Unless it's sounds of [Thom Yorke] belching, I think I'll put it in", said the director.

Last month, we reported that Thom Yorke would contribute a track to the compilation Ciao My Shining Star: The Songs of Mark Mulcahy. The album is both a tribute to and benefit for Mark Mulcahy, the singer-songwriter and former Miracle Legion frontman whose wife died suddenly last year. The album is due September 29 from Shout! Factory. (Other contributors include Michael Stipe, the National, Dinosaur Jr., and Frank Black.)
Now, you can hear Yorke's contribution, a cover of Miracle Legion's "All for the Best", streaming over at Stereogum. Man, this thing is fucking gorgeous.
“There’s a power in the transition from a strong chest voice to fragile falsetto,” says rising star and falsetto-user Dan Black, who’s set to play three sets at Glastonbury. “It intimates the frailty of being human, of being alive.”
If this gradual increase towards ubiquity can be placed at anyone’s door, it is Jeff Buckley, who appeared from New York’s coffee house scene in the early Nineties utilising novel vocal techniques.
Buckley died in a drowning accident in 1997 but not before globally touring his debut album Grace for two years, spreading his influence far and wide. Thom Yorke saw him in 1994 and immediately realised the potential of such a vocal style, making Radiohead Buckley’s first high-profile disciples.
“What’s interesting about Buckley and Radiohead is that they’re going for different masculine representations than an earlier generation,” says University of Salford musicologist Dr Tim Wise. “Instead of singing about being hard and conquering women, now you get moments of weakness, vulnerable personae with their emotion represented by falsettos. The voice-breaking is analogous to being damaged.”“There’s a power in the transition from a strong chest voice to fragile... more

Nine Inch Nails have already established themselves as the pioneers of alternative music marketing strategies and have once again managed to come up with something new for their fans.
This month, the band is partnering up with the developers of Tap Tap Revenge (the iPhone's equivalent to Guitar Hero) to release a NIN-themed version of the application. The game will feature 12 songs from the band's last two albums, thus bringing licensed content to an iPhone app for the first time.
I downloaded Tap Tap Revenge and found it pretty lame, but I'm curious to see how it will work with a couple of NIN tunes I really like.
