Excerpt: "Despite the efforts of culture critics such as Neil Postman to warn us of the danger of allowing ourselves to be seduced – either by a particular medium or by the power of technology itself to change our lives in unexpected ways, human culture continues to embrace the changes to our lives – and our art – wrought by new technologies and media as rapidly as they appear. We embraced the telegraph, the radio, film, then television, and most recently, the Internet: all brought with them not only new methods of communication but also necessarily changes in the way we think about and use (or think we can use) information.
"This has clear implications for our appreciation of language – the medium for writers – especially poets – for whom a word, to invert a famous saw, might mean a thousand pictures. So for my friend Sam, and to those like him who have felt the need to abandon this medium we all love so dearly – language – I feel especially pained. He and I gave talks in the late 1980's that warned teachers and professors all over the country that the medium we treasured – the written/printed word – would likely be subsumed by the power of other media delivered via newer technologies.

Al Jazeera — and its Qatari-government funding — is coming to the U.S. market and it may be changing the face of American journalism. The network's announcement this week of over 100 new job listings had the media world abuzz, bringing to light the question of whether foreign media organizations could be the future of a struggling industry in need of a stimulus plan.
HuffPost Live's Ahmed Shihab-Eldin hosted a segment on how Al Jazeera is shaking up the American media industry on Thursday featuring New York Times media reporter Brian Stelter, Georgetown professor of Arab media Adel Iskandar, Cairo-based journalist Evan Hill, Journalism & Public Media Campaign Director at Free Press Josh Stearns, Wall Street Journal Corporate Intelligence blog editor Tom Gara and journalist and activist Zaid Jilani.
"Al Jazeera is determined to have a seat at the table, and they've bought their way in," Stelter, who broke the news that Al Jazeera was buying Current TV, said. "To put on Al Jazeera here, they've decided they have to be Americanized...it looks ilke they'd like to hire a lot of journalists and prove to the country that they are here to do journalism, not to do some kind of propaganda."
"Its going to shake the industry up in a lot of ways," Gara added. "I mean you've basically got a not-for-profit, 24-hour news network launching here. This is a company that does not do things based on a financial or economic rationale."

I want to talk to all You revolutionaries. You, who now are looking around You and thinking this is not how it should be. You who, regardless of who You blame for the problems of this planet, know that something is about to break.
Maybe You are tucking food and ammunition away, preparing. Most likely You are just going about Your day, watching the web, and saying, “We have to do something.”
Something is VERY wrong with the picture.
I watch as this solution to that problem is suggested – and yeah, maybe that might bandaid that problem – but there are other symptoms that crop up, and then We, to mix metaphors, have to put that fire out. Quick! What size bandaid do We need, and what shape, what contour? And underlying virtually all of these sores in Our society, diverse as it is, on this planet I see a common infection.
Point blank, the infection that drains Humans of creative – and yes, loving – behavior is the need for money. I see People behave badly in so many ways, trying to find ways to enhance Their money. Most don’t, as a rule, making do but maybe contemplating what it would be like if They robbed a bank and got away with it. What would They do with all that money?
So not only do We have to come up with bandaids, We have to be able to afford them – which leads to wrong sized bandaids, or no bandaid at all. And within this the need for money, We have a very few on this planet sucking Us for all We are worth. Add to that there is evidence that They also are not interested in the global welfare of Humanity.
So… Let’s take a look at money. Is there a way to eliminate the need for it?
Let’s ask the question, what function does money play in Our social interaction? Surely We measure “success” by the quantity One can accumulate of it. Its main function, however, is to allow Us to conveniently move the products of Human and “external” energy between Us.
Human energy is used in services, in labor, and in what I call documenting – dealing with red tape, creating receipts, keeping books, accounting for this currency. “External” energy is, of course, all the other sources of energy: coal, gas, oil, wood, etc.
This makes sense if You think of the first hunter, gatherer, fisher, farmer, miner, builder… In each case, Human energy is put forth in a meaningful way and the product represents that energy, with the meaning giving it value. Everything They used was free – the bows, the baskets, the rods, the seeds and soil and sun and rain, the picks – were created with free stuff through Human energy meaningfully expended so as to collect the free goods (with more meaningful energy expended).
Because the product of meaningful energy expended was scarce, compared to all One might want to accomplish, We placed the value We did on what We produced. Out of this grew the exchange of the products – whether services or tangible. From this We can see that 100% of the cost of anything is the cost of energy, whether Human or “external.”
When trade and barter became too cumbersome, tokens began being used, and more convenient tokens were devised as time went on. Shells, beads, coins, bills, checks, electronic funds – all tokens of this meaningful energy expended.
Throughout the history We have on this planet, there has been the presumption that energy is scarce. This has affected the way in which Our society has grown. For instance, when Humans began to be used as the energy source along the assembly line, the “work ethic” sprouted up to keep Us believing that a handful of tokens was Our just due for doing Our duty to the system, keeping it going. In fact, We have become slaves of this system.
Until recently, the energy scarcity has been a yoke on Humanity, in the form of money, and the symptoms of wearing that yoke are many. Poverty and privilege, oppression, wage/debt slavery, greed, a banking system that is out of control, and war profiteering. With accumulations of money comes power – in fact, power over Others is merely another form of money, leading Us to the equation, money=power=energy.
Now, for the first time in Our given history, We have access to the energy pool We swim in – the so-called “Dark” Energy, also called zero point energy, radiant energy (Tesla), orgone (Reich), “vacuum” energy, plenum energy, and other such names. The methods of extracting this energy, however, have been hidden and suppressed.
Because the power “elite” know Their power depends on energy scarcity – which begs for a system to account for it, and thus money (and thus power over Others) – They hide any technologies that offer free energy. If we had free energy flowing, the cost of things would be vastly cheaper as the cost of “external” energy is removed all down the production line.
Another development We are just now seeing is the great advancement in robotics. We are at the point where all necessary work no One WANTS to do can be done by robot. If free energy took the bulk of the cost of things away, making robots affordable, and We built robots for all the necessary work no One WANTS to do (or not enough People), We can remove the cost of Human energy – and this will make everything…free.
We Humans will readily do things We WANT to do for merely the social currency it brings Us: appreciation, thanks, lauds, fame, recognition, attention, and Self-satisfaction.
And so… Rather than Us dividing on the issues of what bandaid in what shape, size and contour We should be placing on what societal sore, I call for a solidarity in doing all We can to strip the “elite” of Their power over Others – by working to release free energy extraction methods from secrecy, and building robots. Yes, We CAN get rid of the NEED for money.
Let’s break out of the old paradigm and institute simple societal seeds for a healthy society to emerge from.

Throughout the Republican primaries, the Mitt Romney campaign did a fairly decent job at keeping Romney above the fray. He made the occassional $10,000 bet on national television and agreed with Obama's signing of the NDAA, but for the most part, he remained low key. It was his front-runner position to lose after all, right? Instead of critiquing the assumed front-runner, the mainstream media hyped up the "anti-Mitt" candidate. Newt Gingirch, Rick Perry, and Rick Santorum — who claimed "Romney was the worst Republican in the country to put up against Barack Obama,"then later endorsed Romney — were all considered top contenders. Now that the spotlight is focused on the presumptive nominee, his flaws are all too apparent. Is Romney really the best choice for conservatives?
The most recent gaffe by the Romney campaign involved spokeswoman Andrea Saul, who made the mistake of a lifetime by touting Romneycare in response to the recent controversial attack ad from a pro-Obama super PAC. "Conservatives" are freaking out. Both Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter have condemned Saul's impromptu response, even demanding the Romney campaign fire Saul. This just adds to Romney's troubles. His 40% favorability mark for presumptive presidential nominees is the worst since 1948. Even the conservative group "Jews and Christians Together" released a memo advising delegates to abstain from voting for Romney on the crucial first ballot. Time is running short, and momentum is not in his favor. In order to defeat President Obama this November, the GOP must nominate the consistent conservative Ron Paul instead of the Goldman Sachs warmonger Mitt Romney.
Think about it. Does Mitt Romney have a base? And if he does, isn't it mostly those "anyone but Obama" voters? Without the support of the Paul faithful, the already-weak Romney faces a difficult challenge against the campaigner-in-chief Barack Obama, who will have plenty of ammunition to use against Romney in the debates. With so little difference between Romney and Obama, its hard to imagine Romney being able to gain the upper hand against the incumbent. The GOP needs to make a decision fast: continue with a struggling Romney, or choose an idealogically consistent champion of liberty to defeat Obama.

The kind of situation both the Pakistani state and the Pakistani nation is going through requires a desperate change to make matters better and to stop them from worsening. However, there is no such thing as a quick fix when to it comes to political affairs in this country. Being a democracy, rule of law and people’s voice should be the elements considered foremostly prior to making any policy or strategy. But interest of the Pakistani nation has seldom been considered at the very core of these foreign and domestic policies by the country’s multiple times tried-and-failed politicians.
This has led people to lose their faith in this democracy. Nothing works under the rule and nothing works in their favour. The rules have been made to support those who already have power. Status counts a lot in this country. Pakistan has been known to shout Islamisation in the world arena, but practices actually none of it in essence. The desire to see law and order in people has turned them to military leadership to make Pakistan a strong country with economic and social prosperity.
Over four times Pakistan has had military dictatorships and people have always voiced that they were better off during these years under military governance than when the civilian leadership was in the country. With reportedly more than $18 billion lost in foreign investments in the past three years, this current government of Zardari has given nothing but political turmoil and economic instability. Today, people no more ask even the Pakistan military to take over, they ask simply for change with no leadership to orient it, which is an impossible wish. Pakistani nation is seeking change desperately, but how to bring it about. They have trust in no one, but in their own abilities, which through nepotism and corruption has taken them nowhere, but made life for a socially aware, sensitive and self-conscious man even more difficult.
However, even the Pakistani military is not clean from the blemishes of corruption, for which it has been also criticized internationally. Even being tagged as mercenaries, Pakistan military is taken in the foreign media as nothing but “foot soldiers” to the foreign powers that use this region for their strategic dominance and economic gains. Never the less, it is the least corrupt institution in this country and appears to be at an advantage by being the most organized.
The Pakistani nation has a dream of seeing a change one day in this country. They should better be prepared to express their political voice through the power of vote that this defaulted system of democracy has given them. Though that there are claims of the elections always being rigged, but when every man would step out and use what right of power he has in this democracy, his voice would be hard to be ignored.
The Transparency International recently said that it wants Pakistani army to supervise the coming general elections which will use the electronic voting system. Though the electronic voting system has not received positive reviews, at least not in India, but it can be trusted upon just like in Brazil the people had in the seat of power whom they wanted. So, the Pakistan military after all ends up serving this country in its dire domestic political situation, whilst it should concentrate on other matters. The kind of situation both the Pakistani state and the Pakistani nation is going... more

The Radiation Database began as a Keyhole Markup Language (KML) project, geolocating Weather Modification projects and devices that may be able to alter the weather. The project quickly grew, expanding to cover many areas of interest/concern. Exploring the RadDB will not only expand your knowledge of our planet, but broaden your awareness of the current state of electromagnetics.
The RadDB geolocates nuclear test/power/storage facilities, radio frequency antennas, UARs like HAARP, radars, and lasers from all over the globe, as well as displays historic/real-time climate data. [News] Usher has had a Change of Heart in Custody Case
I have been a CurrentTV fan, an avid watcher and even participator since the beginning. I was one of the first people wearing my CurrentTV shirt and other "swag" they sent me for being such an active member. But when CurrentTV decided to trash their amazing user-generated content, it lost a lot of its appeal to me. I still watched certain shows and reports, and reporters, but it wasn't the same and I stopped being such an active member here in favor of other sites and threads.
Then CurrentTV did the best thing they could have in their quest to spread truth, they hired Keith Olbermann. Now i'm not gonna sit here and debate the facts and fictions of this argument of his dissmisal. I for one was upset with how often Olbermann was not on tv due to health issues, but I understood. Hell, his fill-in hosts were never that bad. Mr. Olbermann did a great job with what he was given, very low viewership on the channel as a whole, many cable companies not even carrying currentTV, unpaid bills, faulty graphic and technical issues and a set that broke mid-broadcast never to be repaird. He was then left with nothing but a black background in an empty studio. Still every weeknight there he was, to bring us the truth and fight for what most of us know is right and just.
No one on TV was covering #OWS in the begging, but Keith was. He was there from the beginning providing a fair and balanced opinion with tons of F A C T S!!! Then they brought in a bunch of nobodies to supplement him. Most of these hosts just don't have what it takes to keep a program such as theirs successful long-term, let alone short term. Hell most of their viewers were from K.O. viewers anyway. So now their numbers are plummeting.
So CurrentTV has gone and trashed their biggest asset, just like their user-generated content shows..... Oh and Who did they replace him with? A disgraced NY Governor. (thats a whole other topic in itself)
So once again, here we are again, CurrentTV taking two steps forward, and five steps back....then shooting itself in the foot again. Al Gore, a man I respected and held in high esteem, please stop making these stupid mistakes. Hyatt, you too!
STOP treating CurrentTV like every other capitalistic endeavor that anyone has been a part of and maybe start using the ideals and beliefs you claim to have, and actually reflect that in your programing and actions. You want to fill in some time, give the viewer generated content shows back...Hire people who are respected and are good at their job like Keith Olbermann, Rachael Maddow, and etc... Stop taking 2 steps forward and 5 steps back and TOGETHER WE CAN ACTUALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE! ISN"T THAT WHAT CURRENTTV WAS ALL ABOUT? INFORMING PEOPLE AND MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOR THE BETTER???

Founded in 2008, The Zeitgeist Movement is a Sustainability Advocacy Organization which conducts community based activism and awareness actions through a network of Global/Regional Chapters, Project Teams, Annual Events, Media and Charity Work.
The Movement's principle focus includes the recognition that the majority of the social problems which plague the human species at this time are not the sole result of some institutional corruption, scarcity, a political policy, a flaw of "human nature" or other commonly held assumptions of causality.
Rather, The Movement recognizes that issues such as poverty, corruption, collapse, homelessness, war, starvation and the like appear to be "Symptoms" born out of an outdated social structure. While intermediate Reform steps and temporal Community Support are of interest to The Movement, the defining goal here is the installation of a new socioeconomic model based upon technically responsible Resource Management, Allocation and Distribution through what would be considered The Scientific Method of reasoning problems and finding optimized solutions.
This "Resource-Based Economic Model" is about taking a direct technical approach to social management as opposed to a Monetary or even Political one. It is about updating the workings of society to the most advanced and proven methods Science has to offer, leaving behind the damaging consequences and limiting inhibitions which are generated by our current system of monetary exchange, profits, corporations and other structural and motivational components.
The Movement is loyal to a train of thought, not figures or institutions. In other words, the view held is that through the use of socially targeted research and tested understandings in Science and Technology, we are now able to logically arrive at societal applications which could be profoundly more effective in meeting the needs of the human population. In fact, so much so, that there is little reason to assume war, poverty, most crimes and many other money-based scarcity effects common in our current model cannot be resolved over time.
The range of The Movement's Activism & Awareness Campaigns extend from short to long term, with the model based explicitly on Non-Violent methods of communication. The long term view, which is the transition into a Resource-Based Economic Model, is a constant pursuit and expression, as stated before. However, in the path to get there, The Movement also recognizes the need for transitional Reform techniques, along with direct Community Support.
For instance, while "Monetary Reform" itself is not an end solution proposed by The Movement, the merit of such legislative approaches are still considered valid in the context of transition and temporal integrity. Likewise, while food and clothes drives and other supportive projects to help those in need today are also not considered a long term solution, it is still considered valid in the context of helping others in a time of need, while also drawing awareness to the principle goal.
The Zeitgeist Movement also has no allegiance to a country or traditional political platforms. It views the world as a single system and the human species as a single family and recognizes that all countries must disarm and learn to share resources and ideas if we expect to survive in the long run. Hence, the solutions arrived at and promoted are in the interest to help everyone on the planet Earth, not a select group.
