It's Thursday! That means while most of you are working for the weekend, we're hyped for a brand new episode of The Rotten Tomatoes Show tonight at 10:30 p.m. Meanwhile, here are three stories we dug from Current.com/Movies:
Robert Rodriguez Confirms Predator Series Reboot submitted by James Buckingham
The long-standing rumor that a Predator remake was happening finally became grim reality today when director Robert Rodriguez revealed that--along with four other films--are currently in his production queue. He has let slip that in this "modern" revision, there will be multiple Predators fighting a group of commandos. Mm.
He also claims to be producing The Jetsons. Or directing it. As always when it comes to a prospective Rodriguez production, no one knows the status of it.
The Tribeca-Sundance Throwdown--De Niro vs. Redford submitted by Pericles_Lewnes
The Tribeca Film Festival began yesterday and the claws are out as the supposed spectacle festival is aquiring Grade A talent--from Sundance!
and finally...

In one of the most confusing twists ever: The Weinstein Company, even admist rumors of being acquired, have stopped their pre-production on Halloween 3D to rush it into theaters next summer.
And better yet, they plan on re-releasing Rob Zombie's Halloween II in December.

The Weinstein Company has debuted the first trailer for Michael Cera's Youth in Revolt today on AOL. The movie is about a teenage kid who falls in a love with a girl he can't have but decides to go to lengths to win over her heart. I was going to complain about how tired I am of seeing Michael Cera act the same damn way in every movie, but thought otherwise after he introduces his "supplementary persona named Francois Dillinger." I'm probably going to get some flack for this, but I love that character. It looks like Cera really can act and that other persona just looks hilarious. I was actually laughing out loud during this. Enjoy! The Weinstein Company has debuted the first trailer for Michael Cera's Youth in... more

Inglourious Basterds might not have been released yet, but already Quentin Tarantino and producer Harvey weinstein are talking up the possibility of a prequel.
Basterds has received mixed reviews since its Cannes debut, and while Empire magazine gave it an exclusive on-set access-fuelled four stars, few other reviewers have been so kind.
First up was Weinstein, who insisted: "Brad [Pitt] wants to do Inglourious II. We all want to do it ... But unfortunately I cannot give away the plot"
And then Tarantino told Variety: "All through the movie, Brad Pitt and Eli Roth just kept saying, "Prequel. Prequel." Brad would say, "Let's talk him into doing a prequel." The guys love the idea. I've got the storyline. Then again, I was going to do all these animated prequels to Kill Bill. I didn't end up doing any of those."
Let's just hope the one we haven't seen yet is any good.Inglourious Basterds might not have been released yet, but already Quentin Tarantino... more

Interesting...
"The Weinstein Co. is stepping into the ring.
The mini-major is making an unconventional marketing move for its upcoming period pic "Inglourious Basterds," partnering with the Ultimate Fighting Championship to promote the film.
The Quentin Tarantino movie will be featured at the mixed-martial-arts organization's UFC 100, a large-scale pay-per-view event set for Saturday in Las Vegas. "Basterds" will get an animated billboard and placement inside the fighting ring, aka the "octagon," and a trailer will be shown to about 11,000 fans in attendance at Mandalay Bay.
The move marks an interesting approach for TWC in seeking young males for "Basterds." The pic, set for an Aug. 21 domestic release, is set in Nazi-occupied France and features long stretches in non-English languages.
But TWC hopes to break the film out of the art house by highlighting its action sequences and star Brad Pitt. UFC, with its mainstream fan base, is seen as one of several keys to reaching a wider audience.
UFC 100, the centennial fight card for the increasingly popular sport, will feature a heavyweight battle between Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir, plus 10 undercard fights. The organization is touting the sponsorship as the first Weinstein promotion at one of its events. "Interesting...

You gotta love Harvey Weinstein. I imagine he'd be more than happy to fight anyone who asks (kind of like Uwe Boll). Right now I'm certain all that's on his mind is making sure that Inglourious Basterds, The Road, and Rob Marshall's Nine are huge hits, or The Weinstein Company may not make it to next year. A month ago, the web was abuzz with a controversial rumor that Quentin Tarantino was being forced by Harvey Weinstein to cut some 40 minutes off of Inglourious Basterds. It seemed hokey anyway, as it came from a very skeptical report on The Wrap. But now Harvey sets it all straight in this GQ interview.
"Those stories are all untrue. There's no fucking way. Here, read my lips: That is nuts. Please don't even write that, it's insanity. There's not even a question of that. Whatever you're reading, it's like some insane blogger… There's no truth to any of this. He's not gonna cut. What he's doing is just reorganizing some scenes. I mean, the guy had six weeks to cut his movie [for Cannes]; most guys take six months. Most guys take a year."
"When I worked with Martin [Scorsese], we'd do eighteen months in post-production. Quentin Tarantino cuts a movie in six weeks? Come on, there's shit on that cutting-room floor that'll blow your brains out. I was telling Quentin the opposite—'You should put that shit back in the movie.' There's scenes with Brad Pitt and the Basterds, and I'm praying he puts that shit back in, ‘cause it's un-fucking-believably great. Listen—this movie will be between two hours and twenty minutes and two hours and twenty-seven minutes. I don't think it's going to be shorter—it's just a question of rearranging. I know he's putting footage back into the movie. I know he's got some cool shit that he didn't get time to address."

Apparently, the Weinstein Company is pushing all of its' 2009 slate further back due to a lack of funds. They're barely able to release Inglorious Basterds and the Halloween remake sequel, H2.
Yikes.
But not entirely surprising, since the Weinsteins were notorious for how they acquired films, hoarded them and then liquidated them to make a profit.Apparently, the Weinstein Company is pushing all of its' 2009 slate further back... more

Forcing a filmmaker to submit to editorial oversight can be a good thing, but when the Big Brother hanging over your Avid is Harvey Weinstein? Things can get ugly. We knew that Quentin Tarantino was making some cuts and changes to Inglourious Basterds in the wake of the film’s Cannes Premiere, tightening that 2 hour 27 minute cut and even adding a scene or two. But Sharon Waxman at The Wrap claims that The Weinstein Company wants Tarantino to cut a massive 40 minutes. Is this an artistic move to strengthen the film or a desperate bid to squeeze more cash out of the film in August by keeping the running time down? With The Weinstein Company having massive cash problems, what do you think?Forcing a filmmaker to submit to editorial oversight can be a good thing, but when the... more
