Do You Know Your America?
Do You Know Your Government?
Are You One Of The Low Information Americans?
Be brave and find out what you know and what you should be learning; all our freedoms may depend on it.
IGNORANCE IS NOT BLISS!
We all hold a certain belief that we know enough about America’s Constitution (its rules and laws) to get by in this life but the stark reality is, we barely scratch the surface when it comes to a knowledge about the laws, the establishments and the constitution itself, that we must live by. In plain words, most of us are ignoramuses when it comes to our rights, we seem to allow our politicians and their propaganda machines to eju-ma-cate us on the mechanics of our government (the legal workings along with the illegal disguised as legal like VOTER SUPPRESSION). Not being an informed voter is what gets us so many selfish and ignorant leaders. As George Carlin once stated: GARBAGE IN GARBAGE OUT... let’s start today by taking the garbage out, thus putting truth and justice in.
"Now, there's one thing you might have noticed I don't complain about: politicians. Everybody complains about politicians. Everybody says they suck. Well, where do people think these politicians come from? They don't fall out of the sky. They don't pass through a membrane from another reality. They come from American parents and American families, American homes, American schools, American churches, American businesses and American universities, and they are elected by American citizens. This is the best we can do folks. This is what we have to offer. It's what our system produces: Garbage in, garbage out. If you have selfish, ignorant citizens, you're going to get selfish, ignorant leaders. Term limits ain't going to do any good; you're just going to end up with a brand new bunch of selfish, ignorant Americans. So, maybe, maybe, maybe, it's not the politicians who suck. Maybe something else sucks around here... like, the public. Yeah, the public sucks. There's a nice campaign slogan for somebody:
'The Public Sucks. F*ck Hope.'" ~George Carlin~

Please take this short test and scoop up some knowledge, (it's free) get some real honest-to-goodness know-how and learn what the innards of our government looks and smells like. Maybe, if we knew more we would get less Limbaughs and Fox News.

Why did Winston churchill say that democracy is the worst form of government?
Democracy is the worst form of government except for all those others that have been tried.
In a speech in the House of Commons on 11 November 1947, Winston Churchill said:
No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.
" Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time."
Sir Winston Churchill, Hansard, November 11, 1947

Romney talks polls, 'character assassination,' and Mass. health law
Mitt Romney took part in three network TV interviews Wednesday night that veered in wildly different directions.
With ABC, Romney addressed polls that show him trailing President Obama, with NBC he promoted the Massachusetts health law that was a model for the national law he has pledged to repeal, and with CBS he accused the Obama administration of "character assassination." Addressing polls, Romney told ABC's David Muir that "Frankly at this early stage, polls go up, polls go down." And he pointed to the first presidential debate - one week from tonight - as a potential turning point in the race.
Asked by NBC News how he can "better connect with Americans," he referred to the universal health care law he signed into law as Governor of Massachusetts. Romney has only rarely referred to the Massachusetts law, which Democrats used as a model for the national health reform law - Obamacare - that Romney has pledged to repeal.
"I think throughout this campaign as well, we talked about my record in Massachusetts, don't forget - I got everybody in my state insured," Romney said. "One hundred percent of the kids in our state had health insurance. I don't think there's anything that shows more empathy and care about the people of this country than that kind of record."
Romney also referenced his church, another rarity during the campaign, although members of his Mormon congregation were featured prominently as character witnesses at the Republican National Convention.
"I think people have the chance, who watched our Republican convention, to see the lives that I've had a chance to touch during my life, to understand that as I served as a pastor of a congregation with people of all different backgrounds and economic circumstances that I care very deeply about the American people, people of different socio-economic circumstances," Romney told NBC.
Separately, in an interview with CBS News, Romney suggested the Obama campaign has engaged at times in "character assassination" against him. (WTF?)
He was asked by CBS News' Jan Crawford about conservatives who say he should be more aggressive and whether he will be in the coming month.
"This is a campaign, not about character assassination, even though that's what I think has come from the Obama camp by and large," he said.
"Do you think the Obama camp engaged in character assassination?," asked Greenberg.
"Oh yeah, sure, they try and completely misrepresent my point of view, along with why I'm in this race, but I think fundamentally the American people are interested in who can make their life better," he said. "Who can make people get better jobs and better incomes. And I can. He's proven that he does not have the capability to do that. I do, I've proven that throughout my career. I think that's what it's going to come down to, so I listen to a lot of advice but frankly I'm going to keep on my message, which is I know how to get this economy going, create jobs, more take home pay for the American people."
Sure, Mr. Romney, you NEVER lie. I think you lie so much you don't know the difference between TRUTH and MENDACITY! tb)

(Oh yes, Mr. Romney you really care about people! tb)
"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it -- that that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. ... These are people who pay no income tax. ... [M]y job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives." ~Mitt Romney~

Giant earthquakes that rocked the Indian Ocean in April had global effects, triggering sizable quakes off the Oregon and Mexican coasts and elsewhere, geologists reported Wednesday.
The undersea quakes on April 11, which measured magnitude 8.6 and 8.2, struck about 300 miles southwest of Indonesia's Aceh province. The larger quake was among the 20 most powerful recorded in the past century, and the pair triggered tsunami warnings around the Indian Ocean. Those were soon canceled when only small waves washed onto coastal beaches. But their effects now appear to have been more far-reaching, an idea once seen as unlikely by geologists.
"The energy from the earthquakes radiated sideways around the planet and likely triggered many more events," says Fred Pollitz of the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park, Calif. He led the analysis in the journal Nature, which looked for links between the quakes April 11 and the jump in quakes of magnitude 5.5 or stronger seen worldwide in the days afterward. The number was five times higher than normal.
The Indonesia quakes were so-called slip-strike quakes in which portions of the Earth's crust slide sideways against each other. The unusual sideways motion of the quakes April 11 prevented them from raising large tsunami waves but appears to have more efficiently sent the "ground waves" they created traveling worldwide. Normally, aftershocks or quakes triggered by large quakes are contained within a relatively local zone.
"Essentially, we're seeing here the entire globe become an aftershock zone of these two earthquakes," says seismologist Aaron Velasco of the University of Texas-El Paso, who was not part of the study. " A decade ago we would have laughed at thinking there was a connection, but we see pretty clear links in this case."
One related quake was the magnitude-7.0 quake that struck in the Gulf of California on April 12. The study says the odds are 1 in 300 of a swarm of quakes like that one happening by chance so soon after the Indian Ocean events. These triggered quakes fell most heavily in regions that seismological measures show were the most stressed by ground waves from the quakes April 11.
Earthquake experts hotly debate a possible link between the magnitude-9.1 Indian Ocean earthquake in 2004 that killed 230,000 people and a large increase in quakes since, says Georgia Tech earthquake expert Zhigang Peng. The triggered events seen from the quakes April 11 don't settle that debate, he says, but the analysis "provides a hope for scientists to search for further evidence, or lack of evidence, to link those great earthquakes."Giant earthquakes that rocked the Indian Ocean in April had global effects, triggering... more

Jennifer Granholm electrified the Democratic National Convention crowd
Thursday with a bold, energetic, and above all loud speech that took direct aim at Republican nominee Mitt Romney. (Watch above.)
The former Michigan governor hardly seemed to need the microphone in front of her as she shouted her words to a fired-up audience.
"I'm Jennifer Granholm, from the great state of Michigan, where the trees are just the right height," she began, in a reference to one of Mitt Romney's more inexplicable comments from the campaign trail. (Granholm winked after the remark to drive home the point.)
Then she went after Romney's business record. "How did he make that fortune? And at whose expense? You know too often he made it at the expense of middle-class Americans. Year after year, it was profits before people." This, she said, contrasts with President Barack Obama, who "saved more than 1 million American jobs" with the auto rescue.
"But it wasn't just Michigan" that benefited she continued, gaining steam. "In Colorado, the auto rescue saved more than 9,000 jobs! In Virginia, more than 19,000 jobs!"
As the crowd broke into loud cheers, Granholm continued to yell out state job numbers until she arrived at Michigan ("211,000 good-paying, American jobs!") After a few more remarks, and with the crowd in a frenzy, Granholm stepped away from the podium and pumped her fist repeatedly, pro-athlete style. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/06/jennifer-granholm-speech-democratic-convention_n_1863181.htmlJennifer Granholm electrified the Democratic National Convention crowd Thursday... more
Just ask Sister Simone Campbell one of the Nuns On The Bus.
This is one fantastic lady. Listen to her riveting speech given at the Democratic National Convention, she moved me to tears. I don't know how anyone can applaud the Ryan type mentality... An Ayn Rand Social Darwinism Ideology of SCREW THE POOR, and LET THE CHILDREN GO HUNGRY (in other words, a survival of the financially fittest). I'm not religious but I sure can relate to Sister Simone’s message, she's the epitome of kindness and compassion while Romney and Ryan are the embodiment of harshness and indifference. As long as their rich butts are comfortable, to hell with those who are less fortunate and barely survive. (As if, that's what being human is all about) Please read the article below written in December of 2010, not much has changed since then as far as the Ayn Rand philosophy of Paul Ryan. Greed is good and sympathy is bad (and only for Liberals). PATHETIC!
Social Darwinism is generally understood to use the concepts of struggle for existence and survival of the fittest to justify social policies which make no distinction between those able to support themselves and those unable to support themselves.
Chris Matthews: Ryan Wants To 'Screw' The Poor
Cut the Dept. But Spare The Rod
Congress can cut the budget without hurting Social Security, Medicare, and other social insurance programs.
By David R. Francis /
America is whipping itself into a frenzy because of debt. Listen to the chairmen of President Obama's bipartisan fiscal commission and other deficit-cutters and you're likely to hear an "underlying moral tone," as economist John Irons puts it. The debt-cutters say Americans need to:
To reduce national debt, 'shared sacrifice' necessary, deficit chairs say
Everything you need to know about Obama's $3 trillion debt plan
Moody’s hints at move that could be catastrophic for US debt
•Face up to hard times.
•"Purge the soul of the evil deficit-spirit," says Mr. Irons, research and policy director at the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), a liberal think tank in Washington.
It's not that more budget discipline isn't needed. A MacArthur Foundation poll finds that more than 70 percent of midterm voters say it is "very important" that Congress take steps to reduce the national debt. Another 24 percent say it is "somewhat important."
But does it have to be so punitive? Irons is one author of a new "budget blueprint for economic recovery and fiscal responsibility" that would spare low-income and moderate-income families from the "drastic cuts" and some other austerity measures in the chairmen's plan.
"We strongly oppose the idea that America's fiscal challenges should be solved by cutting longstanding social insurance programs [ Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, etc.] that have brought security and prosperity to millions of Americans," says the 84-page "blueprint" drafted by the EPI, Demos, and the Century Foundation. These programs "have proven to be effective mechanisms for limiting widespread catastrophic hardship" during the Great Recession.
Nevertheless, the plan forecasts a balanced budget by 2018, where federal income matches federal outgo, excluding interest on the federal debt.
One way the plan does that is by taxing the rich more sternly than at present. "Millionaires can afford to bear some of the burden of deficit reduction," says Irons. Income inequality has grown for three decades.
For example: Capital gains and dividends would be taxed the same as regular income at a marginal rate as high as 39.6 percent, instead of today's 15 percent. Millionaires would also pay a Social Security tax of 5.4 percent on most income. (At present, only $106,800 of income is subject to the payroll tax.) Their heirs would be subject to a tax on estates exceeding $2 million. The $1 trillion in annual tax breaks – various credits, preferences, and deductions like the one for interest on mortgages – would be trimmed down for the rich.
Many members of Congress are rich themselves or beneficiaries of campaign donations and clout of the well-to-do. So taxing the rich isn't popular in Congress. It kills jobs, conservatives claim.

EXCERPT: WASHINGTON -- Employees of a major coal industry donor to Republican causes have raised complaints about their participation in an event earlier this month organized for GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney in the crucial swing state of Ohio.
Several miners at Murray Energy’s Century coal mine in Beallsville, Ohio, contacted a nearby morning talk radio host, David Blomquist, over the last two weeks to say that they were forced to attend an Aug. 14 rally for Romney at the mine. Murray closed the mine the day of the rally, saying it was necessary for security and safety, then docked miners the day's pay. Asked by WWVA radio’s Blomquist about the allegations on Monday’s show, Murray chief operating officer Robert Moore said: “Attendance was mandatory but no one was forced to attend the event.”

Butter wouldn't melt in his mouth
Meaning: Prim and proper, with a cool demeanor
Origin: The allusion in this expression is to people who maintain such a cool demeanor that they don't even have the warmth to melt butter.
PS: Mitt Romney is a liar, a bully and a greedy SOB who has no empathy for anyone not in his class. He is so cold and calculating that butter wouldn't melt in his mouth; what a disgusting excuse for a human being. (That also goes for his running mate Ryan.) Mitt Romney - A Meanness At His Core
Romney’s claim about Obama’s welfare plan ‘ugly slur.’
EXCERPT: Gov. Mitt Romney continues to repeat the lie that “Under Obama’s plan (for welfare), you wouldn’t have to work and wouldn’t have to train for a job. They just send you your welfare check.”
Politifact.com gave that whopper a “Pants On Fire” on their truth-o-meter. The Washington Post Factchecker offered a similar denunciation, awarding Romney’s claim “four Pinnochios.” FactCheck.org also rated Romney’s comment as completely false.
The truth is that Republican governors in Utah and Nevada asked the Obama administration for some new flexibility on welfare standards because they had new ideas on how to move folks from welfare to work. The President agreed. Existing work requirements are still in place, but states now have some flexibility.
So, why does the Governor continue to lie about the President’s plan? It’s what the people of his conservative base like to hear. Romney is feeding the historic fires of resentment among extreme right-wing Republicans who refer to the poor as “the moocher class,” “parasites” and “welfare queens.”
Romney is trying to damage President Obama’s reputation by connecting him with long-standing disparaging, derogatory and belittling stereotypes which paint recipients of government aid as able-bodied people who are lazy, indolent and unwilling to work. It’s a patently false claim and an UGLY SLUR. (THAT’S PUTTING IT MILDLY!)

The Republican Tea Party has successfully taken this (Jim Crow) law out of mothballs and dusted it off in order to reenact it once again but they dropped the Jim Crow label and replaced it with VoterID Law. They think they did this without anyone realizing that it would mostly affect the poor and elderly black voter. In the past week the Arctic sea ice cover reached an all-time low, several weeks before previous records, several weeks before the end of the melting season. The long-term decline of Arctic sea ice has been incredibly fast, and at this point a sudden reversal of events doesn’t seem likely. The question no longer seems to be “will we see an ice-free Arctic?” but “how soon will we see it?”. By running the Arctic Sea Ice blog for the past three years I’ve learned much about the importance of Arctic sea ice. With the help of Kevin McKinney I’ve written the piece below, which is a summary of all the potential consequences of disappearing Arctic sea ice.
Arctic sea ice became a recurrent feature on planet Earth around 47 million years ago. Since the start of the current ice age, about 2.5 million years ago, the Arctic Ocean has been completely covered with sea ice. Only during interglacials, like the one we are in now, does some of the sea ice melt during summer, when the top of the planet is oriented a bit more towards the Sun and receives large amounts of sunlight for several summer months. Even then, when winter starts, the ice-free portion of the Arctic Ocean freezes over again with a new layer of sea ice.
Since the dawn of human civilization, 5000 to 8000 years ago, this annual ebb and flow of melting and freezing Arctic sea ice has been more or less consistent. There were periods when more ice melted during summer, and periods when less melted. However, a radical shift has occurred in recent times. Ever since satellites allowed a detailed view of the Arctic and its ice, a pronounced decrease in summer sea ice cover has been observed (with this year setting a new record low). When the IPCC released its Fourth Assessment Report in 2007, it was generally thought that the Arctic could become ice-free somewhere near the end of this century. But changes in the Arctic have progressed at such speed that most experts now think 2030 might see an ice-free Arctic for the first time. Some say it could even happen this decade.
What makes this event significant, is the role Arctic sea ice plays as a reflector of solar energy. Ice is white and therefore reflects a large part of incoming sunlight back out to space. But where there is no ice, dark ocean water absorbs most of the sunlight and thus heats up. The less ice there is, the more the water heats up, melting more ice. This feedback has all kinds of consequences for the Arctic region. Disappearing ice can be good for species such as tiny algae that profit from the warmer waters and extended growing season, but no sea ice could spell catastrophe for larger animals that hunt or give birth to offspring on the ice. Rapidly changing conditions also have repercussions for human populations whose income and culture depend on sea ice. Their communities literally melt and wash away as the sea ice no longer acts as a buffer to weaken wave action.
But what happens in the Arctic, doesn’t stay in the Arctic. The rapid disappearance of sea ice cover can have consequences that are felt all over the Northern Hemisphere, due to the effects it has on atmospheric patterns. As the ice pack becomes smaller ever earlier into the melting season, more and more sunlight gets soaked up by dark ocean waters, effectively warming up the ocean. The heat and moisture that are then released to the atmosphere in fall and winter could be leading to disturbances of the jet stream, the high-altitude wind that separates warm air to its south from cold air to the north. A destabilized jet stream becomes more ‘wavy’, allowing frigid air to plunge farther south, a possible factor in the extreme winters that were experienced all around the Northern Hemisphere in recent years. Another side-effect is that as the jet stream waves become larger, they slow down or even stall at times, leading to a significant increase in so-called blocking events. These cause extreme weather simply because they lead to unusually prolonged conditions of one type or another. The recent prolonged heatwave, drought and wildfires in the USA are one example of what can happen; another is the cool, dull and extremely wet first half of summer 2012 in the UK and other parts of Eurasia.
