A stool exploring a balance and celebration of precision and imperfection. Combining a machining process with reclaimed wood. As the weathered and worn wood is shaped, the beauty and character from the variation in color, material arrangement, and signs of wear are exposed to produce a highly precise yet imperfect design. While the overall form is consistent each piece is individual.A stool exploring a balance and celebration of precision and imperfection. Combining a... more

Born in Turin, Italy on June 21, 1919, Solari is an Italian-American visionary architect and a distinguished lecturer in the College of Architecture at Arizona State University and a National Design Award recipient in 2006. He is widely known with the notion he created: archology, ie. architecture in line with ecology, explained in detail in his book Arcology: The City in the Image of Man (1969)
As early as 1955, the idea of environmental architecture appears in Solari’s notes. An earlier example is the Mesa City: “Project Mesa: quest for an environment in harmony with man.” Over the next five years, Soleri would draw over a thousand feet of scrolls detailing the structures and landscape of this hypothetical city.
He made a life-long commitment to research and experimentation and founded the not-for-profit Cosanti Foundation. The Foundation’s major project is Arcosanti, a prototype experimental town, under construction in Arizona, accommodating 5,000 people, which was conceived to show how cities might be updated, according to the principles of archology.Born in Turin, Italy on June 21, 1919, Solari is an Italian-American visionary... more

OMA released the pictures of Ole Scheeren’s new design, The Interlace, a large-scale complex of thirty one blocks in stacked hexagonal configurations. Developed by CapitaLand and Hotel Properties Limited, The Interface claims to be a new residential typology for Singapore, through communal spaces and the feeling of interconnectedness.
The architecture of Singapore is marked by isolated vertical buildings. However, as Koolhaas says, Bigness generates its own logic. Ole Scheeren, partner of OMA, followed such a logic in The Interlace: “The design addresses concerns of shared space and social needs in a contemporary society and simultaneously responds to issues of shared living and individuality by offering a multiplicity of indoor/outdoor spaces specific to the tropical context.”
OMA, Office for Metropolitan Architecture, has a unique approach towards urban design. Instead of denial of complexity, lack of control, opposition, contradiction, and bigness, they declare them as the key to their projects. The tabula rasa, the void, the grid, and contingency are acknowledged as the new instruments of urban architecture, and are throughly conceptualized in The Interlace Residential Complex for Singapore.
The Interlace incorporates sustainability features through careful environmental analysis of sun, wind, and micro-climate conditions on site and the integration of low-impact passive energy strategies. Water bodies have been placed within wind corridors for evaporative cooling.OMA released the pictures of Ole Scheeren’s new design, The Interlace, a... more

Vancouver-based architecture firm Bricault Design is developing projects not only in architecture, but also in interior design, graphic design and product development in playful and customized ways. Among their architectural designs are a Brooklyn brownstone renovation, a Regina convent conversion, and a home addition located on Brooks Avenue, which can literally be called a “green building”.
They basically maintained and remodeled an existing 2,000-square-foot building, while also supplementing it with the mentioned 1,700-square-foot space due to the need for more space for the growing family, flirting with many aspects of sustainable architecture: green lush living wall on three sides, green roof, and open courtyard. The grasses and shrubs that are watered with a combination of harwested rainwater and recycled domestic water, while cedar batten siding helps shade the interior spaces among with many other green design solutions.

A two-storey, 2,800-sq.-ft modern design in Decatur, Georgia by Robert M. Cain, proves its competence as a clean design being awarded the highest possible LEED rating – Platinum – for having exceeded the requirements by a significant 11 points and being certified “Energy Star”.
What is so unique about the RainShine House to make it a prominent example of green architectural design? Above all, it is the butterfly shaped roof that collects the rain for recycling. Photovoltaic cells mounted on the roof are positioned southward to take full advantage of the solar energy. The roof, being suspended on the continious celerestroies also “lets the sunshine in” and saves extra energy.A two-storey, 2,800-sq.-ft modern design in Decatur, Georgia by Robert M. Vernacular building in that sense is a regionally distinctive and regionally understood structure. It involves methods of construction which use locally available resources and traditions to address local needs and tends to reflect the environmental, cultural and historical context in which it exists. And, almost by definition, it is sustainable, and doesn’t put a strain on the local resources.Vernacular building in that sense is a regionally distinctive and regionally... more

Famous for his usage of paper as an architectural component, particularly recycled cardboard paper tubes used to quickly and efficiently house disaster victims, Ban shakes much of architectural conventions. He doesn’t only use an unusual palette, he also designs structures that don’t have very long lives and used out of recycleable materials. He just doesn’t like waste.Famous for his usage of paper as an architectural component, particularly recycled... more

The space formerly known as Tokio lounge is undergoing complete renovation, and on it's way to becoming the first environmentally conscious lounge in Hollywood.
"Expected to open in July, the new lounge will feature an organic menu, eco-friendly cement (waste materials added to pack cement), an LED lighting system, waterless urinals and air pressure toilets. Power for the club will be supplied by the LA DWP's Green Power resources.
Owned by longtime promoter Danny B, David Stratten, Sean Muniz and Rob Roedel, Ecco will also offer free valet to those of you hitting the town in your hybrids."
Challah. I wonder if Ecco will open before NYC's long awaited GreenHouse (promoted to be the first LEED certified lounge in the world, and initially due to open during last Fashion Week)?

"If you could design a community from scratch with the goal of maximizing the quality of life, what would it look like? How would it function?
The first thing you'd do is get rid of all the cars."
Ok, this article had me at "Hello." I've been wanting to dump my vehicle for a year, but even though I live in a high-traffic area of my little city, there aren't enough amenities within easy transit or walking distance to shed the car habit. This appeals to my utopian side. If we could generate enough solar and wind to keep the electricity going, I'd gladly telecommute.
