What did you think of Michelle Obama's election night dress? The black and red number was a Narcisco Rodriguez design, paired with a black cardigan. It has been receiving mized reviews: “I voted for Obama, but I didn’t vote for that dress,” Jessica Bettencourt told the New York Times, while Julie Gilhart of Barneys New york said, “That dress was unpretentious. It said, ‘Be who you are — don’t let someone else tell you how to be.’ ”

A group of Canadian high school cheerleaders are in semi-trouble for stripping down to their underwear and spraying the opposing football team with silly string. Apparently it’s a school tradition or something.
"Twelve female high school students sporting only their underwear and duct tape around their breasts ran across a football field during their school team’s home game last week in Delta, B.C. The [school's] principal [said] he doesn’t want to see a repeat of the prank and has issued warnings to the Grade 12 students, most of them cheerleaders of the home team.
“We don’t take it lightly. This is a school. [In] schools, we hold higher ideals than we do in, say, the mall,” Ted Johnson told CBC News in an interview."
That’s obviously a lot of BS. If there were a mall where the high school girls only wore underwear and duct tape, I’m pretty sure I’d know about it.

If you're like me, you can't talk about, or listen to, accordions enough. If you're not like me, count yourself lucky. You probably have an easier time making friends.
Still, you've got to like a band with "bellows pumping babes" and "extreme squeezeboxers." They may be just the thing needed to make Accordion Hero a reality, and they're definitely adding a strange vibe to my day.

"An Associated Press analysis of federal records found that 157 college-age people, 18 to 23, drank themselves to death from 1999 through 2005, the most recent year for which figures are available. The number of alcohol-poisoning deaths per year rose from 18 in 1999 to 35 in 2005."

Denise H. Harvey, 37 years old mother of a teenage baseball player, was found guilty of having sex with her son's 16-year-old team mate multiple times in 2006. The youth took the stand testifying he had five sexual encounters with Harvey — in a relationship that he said started with flirting and then a long kiss after school outside the school. He said all except one of the encounters were at his father’s home in the afternoon, between school and baseball practices and games. One, he said, was after hours at her office in Vero Beach. He also testified she left condoms in his truck during practice.Denise H. Harvey, 37 years old mother of a teenage baseball player, was found guilty... more

As Sydney prepares for a visit by Pope Benedict XVI and 225,000 young pilgrims, the city's brothels are readying themselves for an expected surge in demand for sex.
"The World Council of Churches, when they had their congress in Canberra back in the 1990s, was the best business period ever", says Sydney brothel manager.
The Eros Association, Australia's adult industry group, said sex shops and brothels across Sydney are expecting "huge turnover" during World Youth Day.
"We know the kind of people who visit prostitutes and adult shops, many of them do it because of their own personal repression," Eros spokesman Robbie Swan told AFP. "And often it's because of religion. Our industry is the forbidden fruit industry."

Sure, a herpes outbreak can stay with you for the rest of your life, but if you ask me getting BRANDED with a hot iron is far worse a fate.
In a victory for promiscuous men everywhere, a court sentenced 23-year-old Kristina Caban five years in prison for branding a guy for not calling her back after they had sex. New York Supreme Court Justice Michael Obus, who ruled over the decision, called Caban’s freak-out violence “not remotely justifiable.”
But this wasn’t just some heat-of-the-moment branding. The Assistant District Attorney says Caban, a photography student, was the “mastermind” behind a plot to burn a 4-inch “R” into her 2004 one-stint lover, Samir “Sammy” Sara, while her now-boyfriend and another dude held him down.Sure, a herpes outbreak can stay with you for the rest of your life, but if you ask me... more

An attendant at a Canadian restaurant who was sacked for giving a bite-sized doughnut, worth 16 cents, to an agitated toddler was given her job back on Thursday after the case received wide media attention.
Nicole Lilliman, a single mother, said she was dismissed from a London, Ontario, outlet of the Tim Hortons coffee and doughnut chain after video cameras captured the 27-year-old giving a Timbit to a toddler.
"It was just out of my heart, she (the toddler) was pointing and going 'ah, ah...' I should have gone to my purse and got the change, but it was busy," Lilliman told the Toronto Star newspaper.
Tim Hortons said on Thursday that the firing was a mistake.
"It was the unfortunate action of one manager who unfortunately made an overzealous decision, and thankfully we were able to rectify the situation," said company spokeswoman Rachel Douglas.
Douglas said the company, a Canadian icon with stores on virtually every high street across the country, told Lilliman that she could have her job back, and Lilliman had accepted.
A single Timbit sells for 16 Canadian cents (16 U.S. cents), but most shoppers buy boxes of 10, 20 or 40 of the deep-fried goodies, which come in a variety of flavors.
Douglas said Tim Hortons had received a number of complaints. "Thankfully we're able to go back to them and say we were able to fix the situation," she said.

An honest cab driver from Newark, New Jersey received a special city medallion on Wednesday from Mayor Cory Booker, for reuniting a Grammy-nominated violinist with a 4 million dollar violin he left in the back of his taxi cab.
Mohamed Khalil the cab driver who found the violin said: "It's something not belonging to me, and I have to return it to the owner."
Meanwhile, Cory Booker, Mayor of Newark added that: "This is a moment where a cab driver in our city saw something awry and did not take personal advantage, but did the right thing, showed character, showed ethics, showed values, showed a sense of love for his fellow man or woman."
Violinist Philippe Quint exited a minivan cab at New York City's Battery Park early on Monday, leaving the 1723 Antonio Stradivarius inside.
The violin spent the remainder of the night on the seat of the cab, which Khalil parked on a Newark street. By the morning, he was still unaware of what he was carrying.
By then, the frantic Quint was calling the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and Newark's Taxi Commission, which put the word out that the violin was missing.
On Monday afternoon, Khalil checked his taxi while at Newark Liberty International Airport and discovered the violin case with the instrument inside.
Quint soon arrived, dropped to his knees and shed tears of joy. He gave Khalil 100 dollars for his honesty.

They claim the drawing is too close to their design, and will thereby shut down this non-profit initiative to support the poor people in Darfur.

A Sacramento man was arrested Saturday after authorities found more than 300 cats and kittens stacked inside freezers in the man's home.
Officers were called out to the house on the 7400 block of 19th St. around 8:30 a.m. Saturday after a call to 911 was disconnected, according to Sacramento Police Sgt. Jim Hose.
Hose said Michael Parnell, 46, initially refused to allow officers inside his home. Fearing for the safety of Parnell's 81-year-old mother inside, officers entered to discover a horrible stench, a large number of live cats and unsafe conditions in the house.
Upon further investigation, Hose said officers found three large freezers filled with hundreds of dead cats and kittens. Investigators were working to determine why the man was saving the carcasses and if there was any cruelty involved.
Parnell, who also goes by the name of Michael Vondueren, was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Jail on a felony charge of possessing an assault weapon as well as a misdemeanor count of obstructing an officer.
If investigators determine Parnell was involved in the deaths of the cats he could face additional criminal charges, Hose said.
Sacramento Adult Protective Services officials were also called out to the scene. It's unclear where the elderly woman was taken, but the house was sealed shut by order of a city building inspector.
"Every so often, if they wouldn't clean or something, there was a smell, an odor that just reeks on the street," neighbor Marquita Trotter said. "I was afraid to have a party here and have family come over."
Sacramento City Animal Care Services senior officer Pete Alarcon said about 20 live cats were taken from the home by animal control personnel. The surviving animals were being examined by a veterinarian.
"It's unusual that such a big number of animals be kept in the one residence," Alarcon said.

Marriage counsellors report a 40 per cent rise in husbands uninterested in physical relationships
'Not tonight, Joséphine.' Napoleon Bonaparte's lacklustre response to the bedtime blandishments of his wife is being repeated every evening in bedrooms across the country. Men are simply going off sex, according to the UK's largest firm of relationship counsellors.
Relate, which provides counselling, sex therapy and relationship education, said there had been a 40 per cent increase in male clients admitting that, despite being physically able to have sex, they can't be bothered.
Men used to come to us with impotence - now known as erectile insufficiency - but Viagra has sorted some of that problem,' said Peter Bell, Relate's head of practice. 'What we have is a lot of men who say, as women did in the Fifties: "I can have sex, but I don't want to. It's not rewarding".'
Bell says that around half the men he is now seeing admit to a complete lack of libido. Ten years ago, he said, such complaints were unheard of.
'They tend to be men in their thirties, forties and fifties and married,' he said. 'It is a serious issue. It counts as a psychosexual dysfunction, rather than just a relationship problem, because these men haven't simply gone off their partner, but off sex altogether.'
Billy, 43, a graphic designer in Newcastle upon Tyne, who has been married for 10 years, said his sexual desire had waned dramatically in the past three years. 'I still love my wife and am very clear that she's the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with, but I just don't want to make love with her any more,' he said. 'The curious thing is that I can get erections, and I don't fancy or fantasise about other women. It's just that, over the years, my desire to have sex with anyone at all has faded.
'I'm not particularly unhappy about the situation, but I am curious and have tried to work out why I feel this way,' he said. 'My wife and I have always had a difficult relationship but, in the past, that always led to great sex. It's true that I have a stressful job, but previously sex helped me relax and forget my work problems. I'm baffled by my lack of interest, but not particularly unhappy.'
Bell said the problem is 'partly because women are more aware of what they want sexually and are prepared to ask for it'. He added: 'I think it's also that men and women are more sexually similar than they like to think. It is traditionally believed that, while women only enjoyed sex if it happened in the context of a positive and nurturing relationship, men could always be turned on by visual cues alone. But what we're seeing is that, once the thrill of the chase has disappeared and the sex is happening in a committed relationship, the libido of both men and women is affected by the quality of the relationship they are in.'
Professor Michael King, of the Royal Free and University College Medical School in London, believes the problem might lie in depression. Last week he completed a study into mental illness across six countries which found that the rate of major depression and panic syndrome was highest among men in the UK. 'Men are most likely to suffer depression between the ages of 30 and 50,' said King. 'One of the explanations is that men are less able to talk about their problems than women or express their emotions.'
Professor Cary Cooper, president of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, agreed. 'Men have less social support and, as a generalisation, are less emotionally intelligent than women and have not traditionally been encouraged to share their feelings,' he said.

He’s getting Bush's staff.
It’s no secret that Steve Schmidt, Bush’s attack dog in the 2004 election, and Mark McKinnon, the president’s media strategist, are performing similar functions for McCain now.
But other big-name Bushies are lining up to boost McCain, too.
Ken Mehlman, who ran Bush’s 2004 campaign, is now serving as an unpaid, outside adviser to the Arizona Republican. Karl Rove, the president’s top political hand since his Texas days, recently gave money to McCain and soon after had a private conversation with the senator. A top McCain adviser said both Mehlman and Rove are now informally advising the campaign. Rove refused to detail his conversation with McCain.
The list could grow longer. Dan Bartlett, formerly a top aide in the Bush White House, and Sara Taylor, the erstwhile Bush political adviser, said they are eager to provide any assistance and advice possible to McCain.
Rove explained that he and McCain “got to know each other during the 2004 campaign.” In a separate interview, Mehlman noted that “McCain was completely loyal to the president in 2004 and worked incredibly hard to help him get elected.” According to Taylor, “The Bush Republicans here in town are excited for John McCain.”
Despite the president’s low approval ratings, there are clear benefits to McCain for this cozy relationship with the Bush team. They are seasoned operatives with a track record of winning back-to-back national elections in tough political environments. But there are obvious drawbacks. First and foremost, any association with the Bush administration helps Democrats make their case that McCain represents a clear extension of an unpopular presidency.
“[McCain] has sided himself so closely to the administration, especially on Iraq, now having various Bush advisers — that doesn’t sit well with the public,” said Dowd, who has recently broken with the Bush inner circle. “The public wants the non-Bush candidate.”
Dowd also argued that he believes that the proximity of Bush’s advisers could lead McCain to a strategic mistake: refighting the 2004 campaign. “There is a real danger of that,” Dowd added. “And I think some of the things John McCain has done, and how he’s done it, has been a fight or a battle that’s gone. I don’t think this is going to be a terrorism election or a national security election.”
The McCain adviser said Dowd's concern is unwarranted, pointing to the campaign’s belief that the economy will play a far greater role in the 2008 race than it did in 2004.He’s getting Bush's staff.
