Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski, who's no stranger to the world of comics, will be taking over DC Comics' Superman and Wonder Woman titles on an ongoing basis, starting in July.
That's the news on the DC Comics blog;
Starting in July with SUPERMAN #701 and WONDER WOMAN #601, superstar writer J. Michael Straczynski—a man who's created layered and compelling characters and worlds on the big screen, on television and across the comic book spectrum—dives head-first into the DC Universe by taking the ongoing writing reins for two-thirds of the fabled DCU trinity.

"It’s a big day for movement on the comic book movie front. We just had word on Marvel’s casting approach to Captain America, and now there is some new detail about the next Superman movie from DC and Warner Bros. While recent reports that Christopher Nolan is mentoring the new Superman film were denied by DC and WB, we’re now told that David Goyer, who has worked with Nolan on his Batman films, has been hired to write the new Superman film, The Man of Steel."
Latino Review has the story, and offers a few extra details. The site reports that Lex Luthor and Braniac are part of Goyer’s script, which is not an origin story. They also say that a story point is the financial struggle of The Daily Planet, which is floundering like so many real-world papers. Finally, LR mentions the story setting up a “huge Kryptonian mythology.”

A copy of the first comic to feature caped hero Superman has been sold on the internet for $1m (£646,000).
The 1938 edition of Action Comics No 1 - which originally sold for 10c - was sold by a private seller to a private buyer, neither of whom was named.
Stephen Fishler, co-owner of the US auction website Comic Connect, said it was "the Holy Grail of comic books".
The sale smashes the previous record price for a comic book of $317,200 (£205,000) in 2009.
That was also a copy of Action Comics No 1, but in poorer condition.
Mr Fishler said the transaction happened minutes after the issue was put on sale at around 1030 local time (1530 GMT) on Monday.
He said that the seller was a "well-known individual" in New York with a pedigree collection, and that the buyer was a known customer who had previously bought an Action Comics No 1.

The website 'Film School Rejects', has compiled the list of eight demands they want for the next Superman movie.
There list includes: No Origin stories, something new, Mark Millar, a huge budget (not sure since the economy isn't stable), Superman's struggles, make the villian tougher for Superman, don't make Superman to humanistic and (something off key) bring Batman to Metropolis. Hope DC Entertainment take notes...

By now, everyone has cherry picked the sentences of Deadline's report that Christopher Nolan will serve as some sort of amorphous consultant on whatever Warner Brothers will try in a third Superman reboot. The fun terms plucked out include "mentor," "Godfather" and "something of a God" when it comes to Nolan's role on the project. But let's break down exactly what we can expect from this announcement.
Nothing Will Actually Happen
We should clear the air about this right now. Christopher Nolan is fairly ambivalent when it comes to these types of films and was probably more concerned that Batman the character perfectly fit his preferred tone. Compare that to Superman who is flawless, epic and best played with a wink to the camera as Christopher Reeves did. If anything, Nolan may just turn over a sheet of bullet points that say "read the goddamn source material" highlighted in bright red.
Of course, if we're serious here, Nolan's best advice may be finding a director with a strong voice and eye who can handle something on a scale appropriate to the subject. In this case, you need someone who can control the world that Superman inhabits, where Gods, freaks and robots exist and a natural disaster isn't a final boss--it's a six second cutaway.
You'll need a writer who isn't daunted by doing dialog for demigods or galactic evils who don't give speeches, instead they simply blast planets into dust without a second thought. You'll need actors, set designers, gaffers, best boys, caterers, producers, mixers, musicians, etc, etc, etc.
All things that Christopher Nolan won't be doing for the film. He'll be working on the third Batman.
Don't expect the "Nolan Realism"
Something beloved by comic geeks and religiously debated online when ideas are pitched on message boards about the third Batman film invoke the "Nolan Realism." That is, you won't have Mr. Freeze show up with a legion of hockey players from hell to steal a diamond while telling Batman to chill out.
If Nolan were to do it, Freeze would be a scientist or employee of WayneTech who would be trying to develop cryogenic technology as a cure, yet his research partner Garfield Lynns wants to weaponize it. Or The Riddler would be a fake criminal developed by a splinter group of the Gotham Police Department and consultant Edward Nigma to lure out Batman and go beyond Commissioner Gordon's back.
Basically, Nolan's universe demands a sense of reality to it. No Bat-Nipples, no day-glo paint and no attempts to have anything but gallows humor appear in his Gotham City. That's the world that Batman lives in. Taking the infamous comparison to Superman, and you should make it something fantastic and over-the-top. In fact, the best advice he'll probably have?
Read a comic.
Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were amalgamations of Batman: The Man Who Falls, Batman: Year One, Batman: The Long Halloween and Batman: Dark Victory. If anything, Nolan does not skimp on the detail or the background when it comes to giving credibility to his characters or his film.
And this'll probably be the first thing he brings up in his role as Grand Poobah. If we're lucky, he'll mention Grant Morrison's All-Star Superman, which shows the Man of Steel at his weakest and most epic moments: Superman is essentially dying because of a burst of solar radiation, but in the process he's becoming stronger and stronger. The 12-issue series is basically a "greatest hits" collection that presents Superman, in all his grandiose legacy, as a character that people could relate to.
But in terms of "modern" iconic tales? You have Alan Moore's "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?" that acts as another fan-friendly bash and Joe Kelly's "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice and the American Way" that presents Superman dealing with the "extreme and edgy" heroes that popular a number of other popular titles in comics who mock Superman for not being tougher or dealing with "major issues."
"Executive Producer: Christopher Nolan"
This is the most likely scenario. There is nothing remotely interesting in the concept or character of Superman to Christopher Nolan. Batman is the most interesting comic character to Nolan due to his obsession with duality and split personality. It's long been debated by nerds far greater than I that Superman is Superman and does not ever stop being Superman, even when he throws on a pair of glasses.
He just can't stop. Batman has to be Bruce Wayne and Batman. It's a constant struggle to avoid being swallowed up by either personality and the entire first act of Batman Begins shows Bruce Wayne's progression from a child into a man forcing himself to change. This gets literal in The Dark Knight through the usage of The Joker and Harvey Dent/Two-Face.
In recent years, Superman has been de-powered, re-powered and equalized during the New Krypton arc. I'm sure Nolan will exert some effort on giving his advice. But Warner Brothers has been way too gun shy when dealing with Superman in the past and believes he represents some sort of figurehead after the original film.
He doesn't.
That position currently belongs to Nolan's Batman. And they'll be idiots if they keep trying to reinvent The Man of Steel when more people are interested in Batman.
Then again, we all know what this really means: people want Batman and Superman in a movie. And if Nolan works on a third Batman film and "mentors" this Superman revamp, it'll give him the carte blanche to finally make films he wants to make and ignore the whole comic book universe once and for all. Or, WB will have him make one last film:
Batman and Superman vs. Aliens vs. Predators
Because we all know this is what it boils down to for most film sites.

It seems that the mastermind behind the success of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight could be overseeing a huge reinvention of DC Comic's other iconic franchise player (no, not Booster Gold.) According to a story broke by Deadline, efforts to revive the Superman film franchise are apparently underway and whoever will be tapped to helm this monster of a film will have Nolan's expertise at his/her disposal.
The prospect of another reboot Superman always seems to have its up's and downs. Coming off the lukewarm reception for Bryan Singer's 2006 effort, Superman Returns, the folks over at DC Comics (now DC Entertainment) and Warner Bros. pictures have been scratching their heads for the past 4 years as to how (or if) they would go about giving another shot with the Man of Steel on the big screen. There seemed to be little progress, as even Diane Nelson, the president of the newly-christened DC Entertainment had announced that there just were not any plans lined up for Superman. So, what could have suddenly motivated this surprising second-wind for the project? Apparently (in a very familiar scenario,) it may have to do with "legal issues."
Some may recall the recent lawsuit (http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/697249/superman-sequel-2012-at-soonest.html)
from the estates of Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joel Shuster, which sued for damages incurred from alleged "sweetheart deals" between Warner and DC over licensing fees that were below fair market value, depriving the estates of their respective cuts. While the judgment was ultimately not in the favor of the estates, the Court did lay down some conditions on the status of those rights. A new Superman film had to begin production by 2011, or not only would the disputed damages be awarded, but the exclusive rights to the Superman franchise would revert back to the Siegels and Shusters. (Who already own half.) Unfortunately for Warner and DC, they did not believe that anything could get off the ground until 2012 at soonest.
That was the state of the "Superman Sequel/Reboot" project LAST SUMMER. Here we are in February of the next... [more at link]It seems that the mastermind behind the success of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight... more

All per Deadline Hollywood:
Warner Bros is trying to ready its DC Comics stalwart Superman to soar again on the Big Screen, and the studio has turned to Chris Nolan to mentor development of the movie. Our insiders say that the brains behind rebooted Batman has been asked to play a "godfather" role and ensure The Man Of Steel gets off the ground after a 3 1/2-year hiatus. Nolan's leadership of the project can set it in the right direction with the critics and the fans, not to mention at the box office. Besides, Nolan is considered something of a god at Warner Bros and has a strong relationship with the studio after the success of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.
Check out the rest. He isn't confirmed to direct, write or even look at an issue of Superman.

If there's a God, surely he'd have stopped the Holocaust? It's a question scholars and religious leaders have pondered much over the decades. And if Superman, Spiderman, Darth Vader and other comic book heroes and villains had been around, what efforts would they have made during the war?
According to Indonesian artist and illustrator Agan Harahap, they'd have have mucked around in the street, posed with various world leaders and saved the odd painting from the Nazis. Stlll... every little helps, eh?

The mum of one collapsed in a bar when her drink was spiked with a substance, thought to be Rohypnol.
But she was carried safely to an ambulance by the mystery hero who then vanished - leaving her wrapped in his red cape, the only clue to his identity.
Dangerous ... Rohypnol tablets
After recovering from partial paralysis in hospital, Elizabeth, 26, made an appeal to track down her Superman using the local paper in her hometown of Wigan, Lancs.
Modest hero Paul Longmire came forward. He had been out with pals in the costume borrowed from a friend.
The marketing executive, 23, said: "We saw Elizabeth stumble and go down face first. I tried supporting her but her legs kept giving way so I just picked her up and carried her outside before the ambulance came.
"She was shivering so I wrapped my cape around her then left. It wasn't heroic. I just helped someone."
Married Elizabeth, who had been out with pals and her sister, said: "I'd drunk three drinks when I collapsed. I woke hours later in hospital.
"Doctors were certain I'd been spiked, probably with Rohypnol or maybe GHB.
"I was determined to find who Superman was to say thanks and return his cape.
"Now we're pals on Facebook. I dread to think what could have happened without him."
