He almost became a member of the Palin family, but Levi Johnston – who fathered former Gov. Sarah Palin's grandchild with her daughter Bristol – isn't holding back when it comes to spilling the Alaska clan's secrets.
"There was a lot of talk of divorce in that house ... times when Sarah and Todd would mention it and sound pretty serious," says Johnston, who turns 19 this year. (Last month, the couple denied Internet rumors of a pending divorce.)
But that wasn't all. In a wide-ranging interview with Vanity Fair in its October issue, out nationally Sept. 8, the teen says that the onetime vice-presidential nominee's frequent self-description as a "hockey mom" who put family above career was far from the truth.
"Even before she was nominated, there wasn't much parenting in that house," he says. "Sarah doesn't cook, Todd doesn't cook – the kids would do it all themselves: cook, clean, do the laundry, and get ready for school. Most of the time Bristol would help her youngest sister with her homework, and I'd barbecue chicken or steak on the grill."
Talk of Quitting
Palin often complained that her job as governor was "too hard," according to Johnston, and after spending a couple weeks of being gloomy about losing the vice presidency, she focused on making money instead of the needs of Alaskans.
"Sarah was sad for a while. She walked around the house pouting," Johnston says. "A week or two after she got back she started talking about how nice it would be to quit and write a book or do a show and make 'triple the money.' She would blatantly say, 'I want to just take this money and quit being governor.' "
Palin resigned from her post as governor of Alaska in July.
The bid for the White House went to the head of the woman from Wasilla, Johnston adds, saying Palin would say things like, "I brought everything to the table" and "the majority of people were out there voting because of me!" "She definitely thought she was running for president," he says.
Palin's ambition for higher office also affected the family's plans for Bristol and Johnston's baby, he says. The governor suggested that she and husband Todd could adopt her daughter's baby and keep his real parentage a secret.
"That way, she said, Bristol and I didn't have to worry about anything," Johnston says. "Sarah kept mentioning this plan. She was nagging – she wouldn't give up. She would say, 'So, are you gonna let me adopt him?' I think Sarah wanted to make Bristol look good, and she didn't want people to know that her 17-year-old daughter was going to have a kid."He almost became a member of the Palin family, but Levi Johnston – who fathered... more

Visitors to the Bristol Zoo are unknowingly part of the animal attractions and can read all about the species Homo sapiens in this plaque hung by the window of the zoo’s cafe. It says, in part:
"After a gestation period of nine months, humans usually live in their parents’ nest for around 16 years. While the parents are out foraging for food, juveniles are looked after in large groups by other adults.
In adolescence, the offspring adopt a more nocturnal lifestyle and engage in ritualized activities of drinking fermented liquids and dancing to rhythmical sounds, which scientists believe help them to find a mate..."

The feted street artist and collector’s favourite Banksy charged just £1 for staging an exhibition in his home town of Bristol on the condition that all CCTV footage of him preparing the show was destroyed.
A Freedom of Information Act request revealed that the elusive artist, who can fetch up to £300,000 for a single work, agreed to the nominal fee from Bristol City Council even though the exhibition at the City Museum and Art Gallery is his largest ever.
More than 230,000 people have visited the free Banksy Versus Bristol Museum show since it opened on June 13 and there are queues snaking for more than two miles on most days.
The impressive visitor numbers mean the show, which runs until August 31, is on track to become one of the country's largest exhibitions of 2009. Only six UK exhibitions saw more people through the door during their full runs in 2008.
Bristol City Council deputy leader Simon Cook said: "This is definitely the best pound the city council has ever spent."
The contract drawn up between the council and a company representing the stencil artist was released online today after a request under the Freedom of Information Act.
It shows the museum agreed to destroy all CCTV footage that might have captured the artist installing, viewing or removing his work, which includes a burnt-out ice cream van and a dummy riot policeman, from the exhibition, 30 days after it was shot.
Key areas of the contract were blacked out, including insurance valuations of each exhibit, clauses relating to the costs of staging the exhibition and the name of the company representing Banksy.
A letter, penned by the council’s legal team, said the sections were hidden as they could lead to the discovery of Banksy’s identity.
"This is because disclosure may lead to the identity of the artist being at risk, which is crucial to his commercial interests and the need to maintain confidentiality regarding the special contractual arrangements between the artist and the council."
Although the contract does not refer to Banksy or the company which represented him in the agreement, it does refer to an organisation called PCO, understood to refer to Pest Control Office, the official organisation for verifying Banksy works.
Only four people at the museum knew of plans for the Banksy exhibition. The rest of the organisation's staff were told filming was taking place and that they needed to take several days off work.
Bansky was part of the Bristol underground street art scene before a string of public stunts made him a worldwide figure of intrigue.
At the 2004 Notting Hill Carnival, in London, a wad of £10 notes, that had the Queen’s head replaced by that of Diana, Princess of Wales, were thrown into the crowd.
The same year he smuggled one of his own works into London’s Tate Modern and hung it in the prestigious gallery. He later pulled the same stunt at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Banksy has since sold a string of works at auction, including Space Girl & Bird for £288,000, and has been credited with the sharp increase in the popularity of street art.The feted street artist and collector’s favourite Banksy charged just £1 for... more

Graffiti artist Banksy has pulled off an audacious stunt amid tight secrecy to stage his biggest ever exhibition.
A burned-out ice-cream van is among 100 works Banksy has installed at Bristol's museum, replacing many of the museum's regular artefacts.
The reason the museum was closed was kept secret from top council officials.
Banksy said: "This is the first show I've ever done where taxpayers' money is being used to hang my pictures up rather than scrape them off."
Staged in the council-owned City Museum and Art Gallery, Banksy v Bristol Museum features animatronics, installations and a sensory display.

"This show is my vision of the future, to which many people will say: 'You should have gone to Specsavers'", Banksy added.
The exhibition and its location have been a closely-guarded secret since October, with just a couple of museum officials in the loop.
"I think we may have dragged them down to our level rather than being elevated to theirs," said Banksy of the subterfuge involved in staging the show in his home city.
After a very public war of words, Bristol Palin and her family say they are trying to work with her former fiancé Levi Johnston for the sake of their 5-month-old son Tripp.
"I know Levi will be a part of Tripp's life," Bristol, 18, says in an interview in the lastest issue of PEOPLE. "I know he loves him"
Bristol's warmer tone in discussing her ex comes after a round of TV interviews in which 19-year-old Levi — and sometimes his mother and sister — harshly criticized the Palin family for trying to restrict them from seeing Tripp. At the time, a Palin family spokeswoman lashed back at the Johnstons. But now the Palins seem intent on making peace.
"I don't think we were ever at war at all," says Bristol, who graduated from high school May 14.

Her father says he, too, see progress. "Just think of what [Bristol and Levi] have been through the last three months. There's a lot there. And so, that they both could talk today and say let's work out a schedule, that's a huge positive step," Todd Palin said during PEOPLE's interview with Bristol at the family home in Wasilla.
"I think it's all going to be fine. And Tripp needs to share time with Levi's family," continues Todd. "When Levi came to pick him up the other day, Tripp was smiling. The work carried out by Cheo and 3Dom was organised by the People’s Republic Of Stokes Croft. With permission being granted by the property's owner the piece was put together to promote Stokes Croft as an outdoor gallery. To prevent any issues the council were informed of the new legal mural, yet days later the piece was painted over. This of course angered those involved as well as many street art fans across Bristol. The space is now evolving into something more, opening discussion on the council's graffiti policies.
