H.R. 8, The ‘Fiscal Cliff’ Bill, Passes Senate : Here’s The Official Text. Now, About The House . . .More on this later, but how good a bill this is for progressives? Perhaps, unfortunately, this is the best we could get in light of the fact that the administration conceded too early – and when not under pressure to do so – the $250,000 tax rate increase threshold, and the number of taxpayers comprising that group is large. Passing tax increases on the wealthier folks with yearly incomes below $400,000 will be nearly impossible until the 114th Congress in 2015, Have our elected officials now decided that a joint filer with an adjusted gross income of $399,999 is a “middle class” income? . . .

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) confused the 14th and 11th Amendments when suggesting the president could bypass Congress and unilaterally raise the debt ceiling. During her weekly press conference on Capitol Hill, Nancy Pelosi displays a disturbing lack of knowledge of the constitution she has sworn for decades to protect and defend. She took questions from reporters about the fiscal cliff, but turned the topic to baseball.

The GOP is claiming a mandate for its policy positions because it retained control of the House of Representatives. But Democrats actually won more votes than Republicans did for House seats.
By Liz Marlantes, Correspondent / November 14, 2012
Did the American people really “choose” divided government – by electing a Democratic president, a Democratic Senate, and a Republican House?
This may sound like a trick question, since that is, after all, the makeup of the federal government that emerged from last Tuesday’s elections.
But Democrats, as well as many in the media, have been challenging this point, by arguing that the majority of voters did not actually choose to put Republicans in control of the House of Representatives – since nationwide, Democrats appear to have won more than half a million more votes for House seats than the GOP.
As a piece in The Huffington Post put it: "If the United States were really as democratic as it aspires to be, John Boehner would be House minority leader, not speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi would be speaker, and Democrats would control the House, the Senate, and the presidency."
So how did House Republicans manage to hang onto power, despite losing the popular vote for House seats? One answer: through gerrymandering – the calculated redrawing of congressional districts to maximize the impact of their own political constituencies.
As Mother Jones recently explained: "After Republicans swept into power in state legislatures in 2010, the GOP gerrymandered key states, redrawing House district boundaries to favor Republicans. In Pennsylvania, Democratic candidates received half of the votes in House contests, but Republicans will claim about three quarters of the congressional seats. The same is true in North Carolina. More than half the voters in that state voted for Democratic representation, yet Republicans will fill about 70 percent of the seats. Democrats drew more votes in Michigan than Republicans, but they'll take only 5 out of the state's 14 congressional seats."
Others are quibbling with that thesis. Over at The Monkey Cage blog, Eric McGhee argues that redistricting likely accounted for less than half of the gap between the two parties' overall vote share and seat share. The bigger factors, he posits, were incumbency and the fact that much of the Democratic vote tends to be clustered together in urban centers, leading to huge margins of victory in those areas that essentially "wastes" votes.
Why does any of this matter? Because, as the two parties get ready to sit down for Friday’s talks on the fiscal cliff – the automatic spending cuts and tax increases scheduled to hit at the year’s end – they are both claiming a “mandate” for their own policy preferences.
Former vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan told ABC News this week that he believes President Obama absolutely does not have a mandate to raise taxes on the wealthy, “because [voters] also reelected the House Republicans.” Interestingly, though, Mr. Ryan also appeared to hedge a bit on what the electoral results really mean, when he added: “whether people intended or not, we've got divided government” [emphasis ours].
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich went even further this week, telling conservative host Sean Hannity on his radio show: “It's very wrong to suggest that only the president has a mandate. The House Republicans also have a mandate, and it's a much more conservative mandate than the president's."
By contrast, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid believes there is a clear mandate for his side's desire to raise taxes on the richest Americans. Immediately after the election, he told reporters: “The mandate was – look at all the exit polls, look at all the polling, the vast majority of the American people, rich, poor, everybody agrees that the rich, richest of the rich, have to help a little bit.”
Now it’s true that, even if House seats had been allocated by popular vote – giving control of that body to the Democrats – it still would have been a fairly narrow divide overall. So there is good reason for Mr. Obama and the Democrats not to act too confident in the size of their mandate, or too inclined to overlook the political leanings of nearly half the country. In that sense, they'd do well to heed House Speaker John Boehner's careful comments in the wake of the election, that “if there was a mandate in this election, it was a mandate to work together.”
But it’s also true that Democrats may, in fact, have received more of a mandate than the electoral results in the House would indicate.
Along those lines, Ms. Pelosi actually made a (perhaps Freudian) slip in her press conference Wednesday announcing her intention to remain as the House Democratic leader: “I said yesterday, we did not have the majority but we have the gavel," she said. "Excuse me. We don’t have the gavel,” she then corrected herself, to laughter, adding: “We have something more important: we have unity.”The GOP is claiming a mandate for its policy positions because it retained control of... more
It will be difficult to follow behind First Lady Michelle Obama’s electrifying speech Tuesday night at the Democratic National Convention, but Wednesday night’s line-up is shaping up to be a a night to remember with focus on women, immigration, the economy and more. The highlights of the evening will be speeches by Elizabeth Warren followed by President Bill Clinton.
There’s even a little surprise in tonight’s program for Mitt Romney. Three former employees at companies once controlled by Bain Capital will speak before the convention.

I got this email from a conservative evangelical family member under the title "Finally some answers."
FIND SOMEONE APPROPRIATE TO FORWARD, It does explain why they don’t understand our way of life. They are from a different world.
THIS CLEARS UP A LOT.
The year was 1947.
Some of you will recall that on July 8, 1947, a little more than 64 years ago, numerous witnesses claim that an Unidentified Flying Object, (UFO), with five aliens aboard, crashed onto a sheep and mule ranch just outside Roswell , New Mexico .
This is a well-known incident that many say has long been covered-up by the U.S. Air Force, as well as other Federal Agencies and Organizations.
However, What you may NOT know is that in the month of April, year 1948, nine months after the historic day, the following people were born:
Barrack Obama Sr.
Albert A. Gore, Jr.
William J. Clinton
John F. Kerry
Charles E. Schumer
This is the consequence of aliens breeding with sheep and jack-asses.
I truly hope this bit of information clears up a lot of things for you. It certainly did for me.
And now you can stop wondering why they support the bill to help all Illegal Aliens.
I know that this may be comical to some, but the interesting thing is how this type of discourse, albeit through humor, is subversive in its construction of reality. The message seems clear. The people targeted on this humor are animals, right? Isn't that the implication?I got this email from a conservative evangelical family member under the title... more
This tired anti-Semitic canard continues to pop up in the most absurd of places, often brought up by those who should know better.
Jewish voters overwhelmingly supported Obama in the 2008 election. The Republican effort to win them away has heated up in recent days as the Republicans have launched a “buyer’s remorse” ad campaign, directed at Jewish voters, claiming that Obama is no friend to Israel and that even Jews who supported him in 2008 should know better this year.

President Barack Obama’s emphasis on raiding medical marijuana dispensaries drew a rebuke from none other than House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) this week, who warned in a prepared statement that she has “strong concerns” about her political ally’s policy.
Since President Barack Obama took office, “more than 200″ state-approved medical marijuana facilities have been raided, according to Kris Hermes, spokesperson for Americans for Safe Access (ASA), who spoke to Raw Story on Thursday.
“That exceeds the number of raids his predecessor, George W. Bush, oversaw during his entire eight years in office,” he said.
The startling statistic wasn’t lost on Pelosi either, whose statement comes just days after she received a petition by marijuana patients in her district.
“I have strong concerns about the recent actions by the federal government that threaten the safe access of medicinal marijuana to alleviate the suffering of patients in California, and undermine a policy that has been in place under which the federal government did not pursue individuals whose actions complied with state laws providing for medicinal marijuana,” she said.
“Proven medicinal uses of marijuana include improving the quality of life for patients with cancer, HIV/AIDS, multiple sclerosis, and other severe medical conditions,” she added. “I am pleased to join organizations that support legal access to medicinal marijuana, including the American Nurses Association, the Lymphoma Foundation of America, and the AIDS Action Council. Medicinal marijuana alleviates some of the most debilitating symptoms of AIDS, including pain, wasting, and nausea. The opportunity to ease the suffering of people who are seriously ill or enduring difficult and painful therapies is an opportunity we must not ignore.”
“We applaud Pelosi’s leadership in urging President Obama to address medical marijuana as a public health issue,” ASA Executive Director Steph Sherer said in a media advisory. “Rather than defending a policy of intolerance, President Obama should end his unnecessary and harmful attacks once and for all.”
“The fact that a Democratic congressional leader like Nancy Pelosi is willing to call out a president from her own party over the huge gap between his administration’s actions and its previous written pledges shows just how important and popular an issue medical marijuana really is,” added Nate Bradley, a former California police officer and current medical marijuana patient who works for Law Enforcement Against Prohibition. “Hopefully other elected representatives from California and other medical marijuana states will soon call on the president to get control of his federal agencies and stop breaking his campaign promises. It sure would be nice to hear Gov. Jerry Brown finally stand up in defense of our state’s duly enacted laws.”
Pelosi, who has long supported medical marijuana, is not alone in rebuking the Obama administration’s medical marijuana raids, but she is the highest ranking official to do so thus far.
The San Francisco Democratic Party passed a resolution (PDF) last week calling for Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder to curb the raids, and nine other members of Congress wrote the administration late last year demanding more respect for states’ rights with regards to marijuana. There’s also a bill in the house, put forward by Reps. Barney Frank (D-MA) and Ron Paul (R-TX), that would allow individual states to set their own policies with regards to marijuana.
They’ve got the American people behind them, too: a Gallup poll last year found that a record high 50 percent of Americans favor legalizing marijuana and regulating it like alcohol. When asked about medical marijuana in a prior Gallup survey, the approval rating jumped to 70 percent.

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), who calls herself “a high-value target for the Democrats,” says that President Barack Obama is a “health care dictator” because his administration is mandating that all insurance plans cover contraception for women.
In a recent interview with PolitiChicks, the former Republican presidential candidate told Ann-Marie Murrell that the eventual GOP nominee would be “1000 percent” better than Obama, no matter who that person was.
“We can’t let Obama have a second term,” she warned. “Not because it’s partisan, not because it’s the Republican team versus the Democrat team, but because we are about a better America and we’re about liberty and we’re about a decent chance for the future.”
“I think the number one threat right now is that under Obamacare, we literally are seeing a change in government for the first time in 225 years,” Bachmann explained. “This is the first time that we are moving truly away from a constitutional republic — slamming the door shut on a constitutional republic — and effectively we’re becoming a dictatorship in that we don’t elect a president anymore, we elect a health care dictator, who we saw with Barack Obama with contraceptives.”
“If you look at this issue, it wasn’t just about contraceptives. It was about the fact that now the president of the United States can order all Americans to purchase a product or service against their will whether they want it or not. And he can decide which product or service will be offered and at what price. That’s unbelievable!”
Bachmann added that Obama had been “more dangerous than any other president” because of his foreign policy.
“We’re seeing a hyperkinetic level of level of terrorist activity and Barack Obama has a lot to do with that,” she said, cautioning of the threat of Iranian weaponry “penetrating our southern border.”
“Even today, the president of the United States is calling for reducing our nuclear weaponry by 80 percent,” Bachmann noted. “OK, now think of this: We have Iran, a third-world basket case, trying to nuke up.”
The Minnesota congresswoman went on to plead with viewers to give her re-election campaign the maximum contribution because she had been “the number one target of [House Minority Leader] Nancy Pelosi to defeat.”
“I am a high-value target for the Democrats,” she remarked. “This race unfortunately will be no different. … I need all of your viewers to give the very best donation that they can give — and I think the maximum is about $2,500 per person.”

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum on Friday blasted rivals former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich for their past support of legislation to combat global warming, saying that politicians shouldn’t change “when the climate changes.”
“When the climate changed about man-made global warming in this country and everybody rushed to say we need to do something now about this huge problem, I didn’t change,” the former Pennsylvania proudly declared at an event at the USS Alabama Battleship Park. “This climate science of man-made global warming is not climate science, it was political science.”
“I didn’t sit on a couch with anybody,” Santorum added, referring to an ad Gingrich had made with then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) calling for mandatory carbon caps.
“I didn’t go out and crow as Gov. Romney did when he was governor of Massachusetts about imposing the first CO2 cap, the first CO2 cap in the country,” Santorum continued. “Both of them say, ‘Yeah, we have to do something about man-made global warming.’”
“We don’t need somebody who changes when the climate changes,” the candidate remarked. “We need somebody who looks at science with a clear head and a level eye.”
In their quest to woo GOP voters, both Gingrich and Romney have tempered their support for climate change legislation in the past year.
Late last year, Gingrich admitted that appearing in the ad with Pelosi was “the dumbest single thing I’ve done in the last few years.”
In October, Romney told voters in Pittsburgh that “the idea of spending trillions and trillions of dollars to try to reduce CO2 emissions is not the right course for us.”
Santorum, however, has said he never believed the global warming “hoax.”
“I’ve never supported even the hoax of global warming,” he insisted last month, adding that Gingrich and Romney “bought into the science of man-made global warming, and they bought into the remedy, both of which are bogus.”

The House’s top Democrat repeatedly jabbed at the former Massachusetts governor during an hour-long interview hosted by POLITICO and taunted the GOP for a slate of presidential contenders that she said was “not exactly what you would call the first string of the Republican Party.”
“If the far right thought that Romney could win, they might be more enthusiastic about him,” Pelosi told POLITICO’s Mike Allen during Tuesday’s Playbook Breakfast. “But they question what he stands for and they don’t think he’s going to win. So what’s the sell? I’m not sure he knows what he stands for, and that makes it harder too.”
“I don’t know who knows him,” she added of Romney. “Does he know him?”
When asked about Romney’s vow to veto the DREAM Act if he were president, Pelosi said that showed he lacked an “understanding” of policies that would not only help young illegal immigrants but bolster the United States’s competitiveness in a global economy.
“He’s not going to be president,” Pelosi said. “But I think it’s indicative of a hard line that doesn’t seem consistent with who he was as governor.”

Daniel-San (I) Retains, Merchants of Death (R) Regain Women’s Tag Team Title: PCW Jesusland vs. Progressiveville Report « Political Championship WrestlingBefore a capacity crowd at Evansville‘s Roberts Arena, Daniel-San (I), backed by Mrs. Miyagi, survived a three-way dance to retain the PCW Title in the main event of PCW’s Jesusland vs. Progressiveville PPV show tonight.
Daniel-San beat back a hard challenge from former champion O’Beck Bahama (D) to hold on to the title. Bahama nearly had Daniel-San in the Bahama Backbreaker but the champion slipped out in the nick of time. After sending Bahama into the ropes, Daniel-San nailed a missile drop kick that sent the former champion to the mat. Daniel-San wasted no time in applying the Cattle Mutilation submission hold to get the win at 17:49.
Bahama eliminated Magnum P.O.’d (R), backed by Newt Gingrich (R-GA), early in the match at the 6:35 mark, stopping Magnum’s run of wins in PCW and sl0wing Gingrich’s momentum as he heads towards PCW’s Drama in Des Moines supershow on January 3rd.
The only title change of the night took place when Republican‘s Merchants of Death (Angel Scott and Angel Casey) regained the PCW Women’s Tag Team title from Kelly and Korey Korver (D) in a tag team three way dance that also included the Mercenaries (Dawn McGill and Svetlana Kovalevski).
Scott and Casey hit the Death Spiral Drop on Kelly Korver at 10:06 to secure the win and the women’s tag team belts just seconds after eliminating the Mercenaries’s McGill using the same finisher.
In the opening match of the night, ‘American Girl’ Sarah Mae Smith (R) reemerged as a legitimate contender to the Women’s title as she defeated Kathryn Randall Collins (D) in a return match for the Women’s #1 contender spot.
The match turned when Democrat activists Women for Women (Code Pink and Emily List) tried to interfere. Code Pink blinded KRC by mistake with a glitter bomb and then Smith tossed both out of the ring before pinning Collins with a roll up at 9:51 in the match.
After the match, Democrats Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Harry Reid (D-NV) ‘congratulated’ Smith on her win but per PCW CEO Barack Obama’s (D-IL) orders, she would have to defeat KRC a second time before becoming the Women’s #1 contender. The rubber match will be held at Drama at Des Moines on January 3rd.

Big Union: ‘The Self Proclaimed Savior of the Middle Class’ Big Labor and James the Jeep Worker (D) retained the PCW Tag Team Title even though they lost via count-out to The Schmidt Brothers: Jack and Joe (R) w/Ron Paul (R-TX) and Jim Schmidt.
PCW Men’s Champion ‘The One Man Hollywood A-List’ Stone Chism (D) was stunned by PCW Women’s Champion Valora Salinas (I) in an intergender grudge match instigated by Chism’s sexist behavior towards Salinas.
In the final Republican Rumble of 2011, ‘American Citizen’ Kevin Scott w/Mitt Romney (R-MA) held off K-Roy w/Newt Gingrich (R-GA), Jim Schmidt w/Ron Paul (R-TX) and a resurgent Texas Jack w/Rick Perry (R-TX) who had his best outing in some time and nearly stole the match from Scott. Nikki Haley (R-SC), who declared her support for Mitt Romney earlier in the show, ran in and distracted Texas Jack long enough for the ‘American Citizen’ to dispatch him over the ropes.
