Republicans are at war, in oh so many ways but especially with women and the poor which is partly the reason why the USA ranks low for newborn survival. They clamor on and on about wanting to make safe abortions illegal, (while also trying to do away with Planned Parenthood) they call themselves Pro-life, yet their visible attitudes towards vulnerable human beings, (living and breathing on their own) is blasé and anything but pro-life. One could almost deduce from their actions that they actually want women to suffer by forcing them to carry their unwanted pregnancy to term, (and for poor women, without prenatal care) endure a life threatening experience and suffer again when the newborn dies shortly after birth.
I know the GOP is heartless but that's just too hateful even for them (or is it?)
The richest country in the world and we rank 30th out of 176 countries regarding infant mortality, (which translates in the lack of respect for its female population) is repulsive. So what else is new? thinkingblue
Excerpt: While the recommendations are simple and cheap, they’re often not implemented in developing countries. The report blames that, in part, on a lack of political will by government leaders.
The State of the World’s Mothers report lists Finland as the top country for mothers and newborns. It’s followed by Sweden, Norway, Iceland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Spain, Belgium, Germany and Australia. The top 10 are credited with high levels of support and respect for women.
As for the United States, Miles said, “The U.S. comes in 30 in the index this year. So that is not terrific, I would say. Thirtieth is not where I think most American women and mothers think they would end up. The disparity in the United States I think is what really drives the differences. So it is very much tracked to poverty.”
In fact, the United States leads industrialized countries in first day deaths for newborns, followed by Canada and Switzerland.
As for the major emerging economies – the so-called BRICS nations – the 2013 Mother’s Index ranks Brazil 78th and Russia 59th. India is in the 142nd position, while China is 68th and South Africa 78th.

U.S. ranks low for newborn survival
Babies born in Cuba, Malaysia, Portugal, and the United Kingdom have a better chance of surviving the first month compared to those born in the United States, according to researchers at the World Health Organization and Save the Children.
In a 20 year analysis of newborn death rates around the world, the study published in PLoS Medicine revealed the number of infants who die before they are 4 weeks old account for 41% of child deaths worldwide. Newborn deaths in the United States ranked 41 out of 45 among industrialized countries, on par with Qatar and Croatia.
America's low ranking among modern nations may come as surprise to many who regard the U.S. health care system as the best in the world. Researchers say preterm delivery (delivering before 37 weeks) plays a role in the United State's lower ranking.
“Prenatal care is not all created equal. There are areas of the United States where access to prenatal and preventive care is a real problem. It puts the mother at a disadvantage and contributes to premature births and death rate,” says the study’s author Dr. Joy Lawn of the non-government organization Save the Children. Florida legislators considering a bill to require abortionists to provide medical care to an infant who survives an abortion were shocked during a committee hearing this week when a Planned Parenthood official endorsed a right to post-birth abortion.
Alisa Laport Snow, the lobbyist representing the Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates, testified that her organization believes the decision to kill an infant who survives a failed abortion should be left up to the woman seeking an abortion and her abortion doctor.
"So, um, it is just really hard for me to even ask you this question because I’m almost in disbelief," said Rep. Jim Boyd. "If a baby is born on a table as a result of a botched abortion, what would Planned Parenthood want to have happen to that child that is struggling for life?”
"We believe that any decision that's made should be left up to the woman, her family, and the physician," said Planned Parenthood lobbyist Snow.
Rep. Daniel Davis then asked Snow, "What happens in a situation where a baby is alive, breathing on a table, moving. What do your physicians do at that point?”
"I do not have that information," Snow replied. "I am not a physician, I am not an abortion provider. So I do not have that information.”
Rep. Jose Oliva followed up, asking the Planned Parenthood official, "You stated that a baby born alive on a table as a result of a botched abortion that that decision should be left to the doctor and the family. Is that what you’re saying?”
Again, Snow replied, “That decision should be between the patient and the health care provider.”

Once more tragedy befalls America. But this time the tragedy is even more bitter due to the fact that such a large number of young children were involved. A gunman, identified as Adam Lanza, shot and killed 26 people, 20 of them children – all between the ages of 5 and 10 – at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, on the 14th of December. ------ A study in The Lancet, the journal of the British Medical Association, reported that up to 576,000 Iraqi children may have died since the end of the first Gulf War as a result of the sanctions imposed by the Security Council. UNICEF, in 1999, estimated that at least 500,000 children died who would have otherwise normally lived had it not been for the sanctions in place. The Security Council, led by the United States, rejected numerous appeals by Iraq to lift the sanctions.

More and more American women are losing their jobs these days, and many are blaming it on the new national birth control system. A FORMER DEVIL WORSHIPER in Swaziland says she gave BIRTH to a seven-headed snake during her exorcism!
According to the Swazi Observer, Patience Tsabedze, a 27-year-old mother of two, who says she served the devil “in a very high rank” for seven years, suffered a “horrific” deliverance last week witnessed by her husband, who works as a police officer, his fellow officers, and a pastor who performed the exorcism.
Over the course of weeks, “Patience vomited gallons of blood, three live starfish and 20 ordinary fish, a dead rat, over 700 worms and other gory items. Her ears also excreted millipedes,” according to reports in the Swazi Observer.
But the horror scene didn’t end there, Patience says she later suffered severe “labor pains” and “gave birth” to a live snake.
“It was my first time seeing such a snake, a seven-headed one with glittering eyes. I tried to kill it but it hid inside the toilet so we decided to flush it,” her husband told the Times of Swaziland.
Despite no longer worshiping the devil, Patience says she still suffers attacks by demons.

A small study of maternal deaths in New York City rings loud warning bells for pregnant African American women. Experts offer ideas on lowering some of the deadliest risks for all women: hypertension, C-section, embolism and pre-eclampsia.
One of the few looks at maternal mortality in the United States was New York City's recent analysis of 161 women who died from 2001 to 2005.
It's a small study with loud warning bells for African American women, who make up 24 percent of the city's maternity population.
Fifty-eight percent of those who died of pregnancy-induced conditions in the study were black and 10 percent were white. Hispanic and Asian/Pacific Islander pregnant women died at twice the rate of white pregnant women, but at significantly lower rates than blacks.
Women over 40 were found to be about 2.6 times more likely to die from childbirth-related conditions than younger women. Forty-nine percent were obese. Pregnant women who had private insurance and those insured by Medicaid –government insurance for those with low incomes--had similar rates of pre-natal care.
The New York City report drew no conclusions about how to lower the city's high rate of maternal deaths among African Americans.
In the United States 1 out of every 7 maternal deaths occurs six weeks after delivery, so some deaths might have been prevented if the woman received more follow-up care.

Donald Trump's Show's His True Color "GREEN"
What Does it Mean When a Person is "Green"?
The term “green” refers to someone who is not yet experienced in a particular field or activity. Being green can apply in many facets of life, but the term is probably most often used in conjunction with someone who is new at his or her profession, position, or hobby.
If a newly hired police officer on the beat mishandles a situation, it might be attributed to that officer being green. Later, after the officer gets some experience under his or her belt, the department would not expect the same kind of mistakes or misjudgments on the officer’s part. The same can be said of a lawyer who has recently passed the bar and has not yet handled many cases. Medical interns are another example of people who could be said to be green. (OH, AND ALSO DONALD TRUMP!)
If Donald Trump worked for us, we’d have to say: "Donald, you’re fired — for incompetence." The successful developer and TV celebrity says he’d make a good president, and maybe he would — we take no stand either way about that. But when it comes to getting facts straight, he fouls up again and again on the basics of President Barack Obama’s birth. As a rookie reporter, he just wouldn’t make it.
He claims the president’s grandmother says Obama was born in Kenya. In fact, the recording to which he refers shows Sarah Obama repeatedly saying through a translator: "He was born in America."
He claims that no hospital in Hawaii has a record of Obama’s birth. Hospital records are confidential under federal law, but Honolulu’s Kapi’olani Medical Center has published a letter from Obama calling it "the place of my birth," thus publicly confirming it as his birthplace.
He insists that the official "Certification of Live Birth" that Obama produced in 2008 is "not a birth certificate." That’s wrong. The U.S. Department of State uses "birth certificate" as a generic term to include the official Hawaii document, which satisfies legal requirements for proving citizenship and obtaining a passport.
He claims that there’s no signature or certification number on the document released by Obama. Wrong again. Photos of the document, which we posted in 2008, clearly show those details.
He says newspaper announcements of Obama’s birth that appeared in Hawaii newspapers in 1961 "probably" were placed there fraudulently by his now-deceased American grandparents. Actually, a state health department official and a former managing editor of one of the newspapers said the information came straight from the state health department.
He claims "nobody knew" Obama when he was growing up and "nobody ever comes forward" who knew him as a child. "If I ever decide to run, you may go back and interview people from my kindergarten," Trump said. Well, two retired kindergarten teachers in a 2009 news story fondly recall teaching a young Barack Obama.
Q What is the difference between a certification of live birth and a birth certificate in the state of Hawaii?
In: Law & Legal Issues, Hawaii, Birth Certificates
A "Certification of Live Birth" is a short-form birth certificate. The information included in the document may differ from state to state. A "Certification of Live Birth" from Hawaii will include the name and sex of the person, date of birth, hour of birth, island of birth, county of birth, mother's maiden name, mother's race, father's name, father's race, date accepted by registrar, a certificate number and seal. The seal may be different depending on the year it was printed.
A "Certificate of Live Birth" is the long-form birth certificate and contains more detailed information, including signatures of doctor(s), witnesses, vital statistics (length and weight), etc.
According to the Department of Hawaiian Homelands:
Birth certificates (Certificates of Live Birth and Certifications of Live Birth) and Certificates of Hawaiian Birth are the primary documents used to determine native Hawaiian qualification.
The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands accepts both Certificates of Live Birth (original birth certificate) and Certifications of Live Birth because they are official government records documenting an individuals birth. The Certificate of Live Birth generally has more information which is useful for genealogical purposes as compared to the Certification of Live Birth which is a computer-generated printout that provides specific details of a person's birth. Although original birth certificates (Certificates of Live Birth) are preferred for their greater detail, the State Department of Health (DOH) no longer issues Certificates of Live Birth. When a request is made for a copy of a birth certificate, the DOH issues a Certification of Live Birth.
So, a long-form Certificate has additional information on it that that is useful for genealogical purposes. However, both the certificate and the certification are certified government records providing prima facia proof of the information they contain.
