It's good to hear the reaction from the crowd in this video - it should silence the people who say that all students that were at Tory HQ that day were irresponsible thugs.

On Wednesday November 10th, an estimated 50,000 attended a rally in central London to protest against rising university fees.
The majority of demonstrators were peaceful but a small number took out their frustrations on Tory HQ, smashing windows, setting fire to placards and clashing with police.
Aaron Porter, the NUS president, was quick to condemn the breakaway protesters, describing their actions as "despicable".
For the full story, see our current.com report.
Protesters gathered at around 12PM, with the mood being described as good-natured and peaceful.
Among the angry political slogans were some comedy signs, including "Is this the queue for Justin Bieber tickets?" and "I wish my boyfriend was as dirty as your policy".
Nice sign, great hair.
Students gather at the start of the protest.
Students besiege 30 Millbank, the Conservative party headquarters, during a protest against cuts in university funding and an increase in tuition fees.
Demonstrators smash windows in the tower block.
Around 20 students got into the lobby of the Conservative party HQ.
After storming 30 Millbank, protesters managed to get onto the roof of the building. A fire extinguisher was later dropped from above onto police below by an unknown idiot. It's thought that nobody was seriously injured by it.
Protesters wave from the roof of the Millbank Tower.
A small number of fires were lit and placards were burnt.

A new online lesson service will allow students to rate the performance of their teachers. The videos that are watched the most and become the highest rated will be awarded lump-sums of cash. Every fortnight from today the highest rated teacher will be awarded £2,000 and a further £2,000 will be given to their school. The online lesson service will be able to stockpile lessons from any secondary school in the country – which can then be accessed by teachers and students anywhere. So far, seven schools have signed up for the scheme – including the private schools Eton and Wellington College. The other five are state schools. The teacher and the school can decide either to be anonymous, to minimise the potential for former pupils making derogatory comments on the website or be named. The website is being run by 02 Learning, part of the communications group 02 UK Ltd, which hopes that the project will – in addition to providing them with beneficial marketing – be an educational resource for pupils and teachers, giving them access to some of the most talented teachers. There will be an awards ceremony at the 02 Arena in east London next autumn, where judges will select the best three teachers.

In this on the sofa discussion with Professor of Education Dennis Hayes, a group of students worry about: standards; getting their money’s worth; job prospects on graduation; putting non university options on an equal footing and debt. Professor Hayes argues university is not retail therapy, although a therapeutic culture has degraded the pursuit of knowledge. He suggests frugality is futile and tells us that while you don’t need a degree to be a postman, a postman is also a human being and everyone can benefit from the best possible university education. In this on the sofa discussion with Professor of Education Dennis Hayes, a group of... more

Thousands of students, trade unionists, community groups and others marched through the streets of London in protest following the brutal spending cuts issued by the Tory government yesterday.
Students from University College London and surrounding universities initiated the march on their campus and were soon joined by thousands of others united in the cause. Banners on display reflected the diversity of those protesting, including unions such as Unison, the National Union of Teachers and the GMB. The procession passed through Central London and ended up at a rally outside Downing Street. Simultaneously thousands of demonstrators were also gathered at a rally at Lincoln’s Inn Fields where Tony Benn, as well as other trade union and movement leaders addressed thousands of angered protesters. The Lincoln’s Inn Fields protesters later marched towards Downing Street.
Local protests were also organised around the UK; a clear indicator of the public’s outrage at the proposed rebudgeting of the country’s coffers.

A California student got a visit from the FBI this week after he found a secret GPS tracking device on his car, and a friend posted photos of it online. The post prompted wide speculation about whether the device was real, whether the young Arab-American was being targeted in a terrorism investigation and what the authorities would do.
It took just 48 hours to find out: The device was real, the student was being secretly tracked and the FBI wanted their expensive device back, the student told Wired.com in an interview Wednesday.
The answer came when half-a-dozen FBI agents and police officers appeared at Yasir Afifi’s apartment complex in Santa Clara, California, on Tuesday demanding he return the device.
Afifi, a 20-year-old U.S.-born citizen, cooperated willingly and said he’d done nothing to merit attention from authorities. Comments the agents made during their visit suggested he’d been under FBI surveillance for three to six months.
An FBI spokesman wouldn’t acknowledge that the device belonged to the agency or that agents appeared at Afifi’s house.
“I can’t really tell you much about it, because it’s still an ongoing investigation,” said spokesman Pete Lee, who works in the agency’s San Francisco headquarters.
Afifi, the son of an Islamic-American community leader who died a year ago in Egypt, is one of only a few people known to have found a government-tracking device on their vehicle.
His discovery comes in the wake of a recent ruling by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals saying it’s legal for law enforcement to secretly place a tracking device on a suspect’s car without getting a warrant, even if the car is parked in a private driveway.
Brian Alseth from the American Civil Liberties Union in Washington state contacted Afifi after seeing pictures of the tracking device posted online and told him the ACLU had been waiting for a case like this to challenge the ruling.
“This is the kind of thing we like to throw lawyers at,” Afifi said Alseth told him.
“It seems very frightening that the FBI have placed a surveillance-tracking device on the car of a 20-year-old American citizen who has done nothing more than being half-Egyptian,” Alseth told Wired.comA California student got a visit from the FBI this week after he found a secret GPS... more

Cheerleading has gone from an American pastime to a cutting edge sport that requires as much athleticism and competitive fierceness as football or basketball. Even in middle school, girls are trying their best to become cheerleaders for the age-old allure of wearing the uniform and being among the popular crowd.
