2012 Predictions by Justin Raimondo of Anti-War.com

Predictions are always problematic – there’s that pesky notion of “free will,” [.pdf] not to mention the stubborn refusal of reality to conform to our preconceptions.

1) War with Iran – One could argue we are already at war with Iran, what with US support for the terrorist Jundallah – a Sunni extremist group with links to al-Qaeda – which is attacking Iranian civilians and wreaking havoc in Iranian Baluchistan. Also, the sanctions we have imposed on Iran are, in themselves, acts of war – and we’ve seen how Iran is responding with threats to block the Strait of Hormuz, which a great deal of the world’s oil must pass through.

In line with my theory of “libertarian realism” – the idea that domestic political considerations determine a nation’s actions on the international stage – I’ll note that the number one force pushing for war with Iran is the indefatigable Israel lobby, which has been beating the war drums for years now and has the full support of both parties in Congress. Sure, the American people don’t want war – but since when have they had any say in our foreign policy?

7) The only antiwar presidential candidate will be continuously smeared, demonized, and eventually driven out of the GOP by the party Establishment – If Ron Paul even comes close to winning Iowa, he will have everything but the kitchen sink thrown at him by a grand alliance of neocons, Obama cultists, and Beltway fake-“libertarians.”

First they’ll blame the weather, then they’ll blame the “fanaticism” of Paul’s army of volunteers, and finally they’ll blame the voters, who are supposedly so poisoned by “resentment” that they must be declared officially mad. Delegates won fair and square will encounter “problems” with their credentials.

Gloria Borger will team up with a famous psychic to divine who really authored the infamous newsletters, and fresh non-scandals will be unearthed by enterprising “journalists.” In the end, a coalition of neocons and Romneyites will issue an encyclical, excommunicating Paul and his supporters from the Republican party – and opening the way for a third party bid that will threaten to put the GOP nominee in third in November.

Because ‘The Wandering Who’ is probably the only contemporary text that offers a complete and comprehensive reading into, not only Jewish Identity politics in general but also into Dershowitz’ own particular psychosis and duplicitous behaviour.

Speaking of duplicitous behaviour, being a prime Hasbara agent and well used to ‘the ways of deception’, Dershowitz fails to produce a single truthful statement in the entire program. He lies all the way through. But lies and deception are not going to help Dershowitz.

Why does Dershowitz believe he has the moral authority to ‘shame’ two of the world’s leading humanists? Is it because he believes himself to be intellectually or morally superior, or is it that he is just, quite simply ‘chosen’?

It’s about time that Dershowitz accepts that American universities are not Yeshivas and he should rein in his mediaeval rabbinical approach to political and intellectual discourse.

Being an ex-Jew, I ask no-one to ‘shame’ Dershowitz in return. This sad, vindictive man brings more than enough shame on himself – and on anyone within the Jewish community who identify so disastrously with his repellent behaviour.

Giving Peace No Chance

In 2009, the Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the annual Nobel Peace Prize to newly minted President Barack Obama. In its press release, the Committee noted “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”

Democrats hailed the announcement as a validation of their faith in the erstwhile junior Senator from Illinois. Conservatives acknowledged the most-recent addition to the untested former community organizer’s collection of accolades as proof that the Nobel Prize — which had gained considerable tarnish after being handed to Al Gore for science fiction — was rapidly becoming as precious as those fancy breath mints they have in a dish at the Chicago-area restaurants where Oprah Winfrey dines. The conservative skepticism was confirmed after it became apparent the Norwegian Nobel Committee voted to hand the medal to Obama only nine days into his occupation of the Oval Office.

But Obama is a Nobel laureate. He successfully campaigned on his opposition to war, proudly touting his stance against further combat in Iraq and promising a swift withdrawal from that conflict. With Obama in the White House, not only were we all going to be better people, but we were going to live in a more peaceful world. Obama was demonstrating “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation.”

So, more than two years later, how’s that working out for everyone?

The War in Iraq continues, although the corporate media have developed an apparent aversion to reporting on it. The War in Afghanistan has gotten more — not less — violent, although the corporate media have evidently forgotten how to find Afghanistan on a map. The Middle East has erupted in a revolutionary frenzy which seems inspiring, until closer examination of the various conflicts reveals what may well be some sort of intramural Islamofascist squabble. Instead of delivering harmonious peace to the planet, Obama has increased U.S. military obligations from two wars to four. And he has done so at a time when the U.S. economy is wheezing like Ed Schultz chasing after a date (thanks to Obama’s ham-fisted economic stewardship).

You read that correctly. In addition to the continuing engagements in Iraq and Afghanistan, Obama has committed us to the dubiously progressing effort to oust Moammar Gadhafi from Libya. And thanks to a report which will probably cost The New York Times a spot on the plane the next time Michelle Obama takes a few dozen of her closest friends to a five-star foreign resort, it has been revealed the U.S. military is now conducting a “secret” — and growing — conflict in Yemen. “Cooperation between peoples” is fairly simple when one side of those “peoples” is pushing up palm trees.

To be honest, I have no issue with justifiable war. Terrorists, among others, need to die; and the U.S. military has consistently demonstrated it is second to none at killing terrorists. Plus, war looks much cooler on television than the corporate media excusing Representative Anthony Weiner’s contact with high school girls. Of course, I didn’t run for President of the United States on an anti-war platform, nor did I win the Nobel Peace Prize on spec. The Obama global doctrine appears to involve some sort of diplomatic board game: “All right, Mr. President, you rolled a five and a three. You have to go to…Yemen… with a cruise missile!”

I am, therefore, perplexed by the ability of rank-and-file liberals to rectify their beloved Obama’s anti-war promises with his decidedly belligerent (or scattershot) performances.

The whole of human history has been marked by war. Indeed, the number of war-free years since the first Neolithic tribesmen began scribbling depictions of dead other Neolithic tribesmen is, counting 2011, effectively zero. Ever since Thok figured out he could have the best cows and women by splitting Unk’s skull with a rock, we’ve been at it. In fact, there may well be only one thing that has defined man’s attempts to assert his own dominance over the world: lying.

Ron Paul's 15 Most 'Extreme' Positions

Extremism is a sacred word in the bipartisan lexicon, solemnly reserved for willful and persistent deviations from the holy mainstream. For that reason, it is not extremism to favor a policy that led to 2 million deaths in Vietnam. Our mainstream politicians supported that, you see. It is not extremism to have favored the indefensible war in Iraq, which led to at least hundreds of thousands of deaths and four million people displaced. How could it be? Why, the Washington Post and the New York Times favored it!

How about a sanctions policy that led to the deaths of 500,000 Iraqi children? Even if this statistic were false, American officials, including former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and former US Ambassador to the United Nations Bill Richardson, said half a million dead Iraqi children were "worth it." No mainstream outlet I am aware of has referred to Albright and Richardson as extremists.

For that matter, no one has been called an extremist for thinking it’s all right for people to stick their hands down your pants at the airport. This is a matter of public policy, citizen.

Meanwhile, people typically accused of "extremism" in America are not responsible for even one death, and have usually been the people trying to prevent these deaths. The political and media establishments hope to drown out these dissident voices by labeling them "extremist," hoping most Americans will be too lazy to uncover how truly Orwellian that label is.

In that spirit, the left-wing Mother Jones magazine recently featured an article called "Ron Paul’s 15 Most Extreme Positions." Oooh, extreme! Beware, citizen! Block your ears! You shall hear only those positions that have been approved for you by Mother Jones and National Review! For who could possibly dissent from both Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney? Only an enemy of society.

I have tried to keep videos on my YouTube channel brief, but I couldn’t help myself this time. I went through all 15 "extreme" Ron Paul positions as fast as I could. Enjoy.

Shall we get back to the anti-war movement now?

I do actually think it would be smart political strategy if Obama ended at least ONE of the three wars we are in before the GOP primary election is over. I am a Kucinich/Weiner/Sanders/Wellstone style Democrat so I never get to vote for my #1 choice, not even in the caucuses because by the time my state gets to vote, the rest of the country has already taken out all but two of the options for DFL endorsed candidates. Maybe I should move to New Hampshire so my vote is more counted during the primaries. Bin Laden is dead. Mission should be considered accomplished. As for Iraq, I have yet to hear a reasonable explanation as to why we are still there or why we ever were in the first place. And reducing troops doesn't mean "war over", it just means less troops. So really, even ending one of those two wars would be smart political strategy. Why? Because oddly enough candidates like Ron Paul are gaining popularity amongst the GOP. I disagree with Ron Paul on many many MANY things but obviously I do agree with his views on ending some of these wars. If he ends up surprising us all and being the GOP candidate, there will be Democrats switching parties just on the basis of opposition to war. I really would like to have things like social/human services, funding for the arts, putting people before banks, etc. None of that would happen with Ron Paul of course. I would hate to have the country go down the tubes even further just because some Democrats either switched parties or stayed home on election day. In the 2008 election, Obama was less of a war president than McCain who wanted to bomb bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran while his running mate wanted to drill baby drill with her view of Russia from her home. And Obama did say he would increase troops in Afghanistan and try to find Bin Laden so it's not like he lied during his campaign. Now he has accomplished that goal and campaign promise. Most Americans are relieved. A few are treating it like a hockey game. A few more are coming up with conspiracy theories that he already died or never died. A very small number of people think killing him was wrong. But most of us are relieved and that goes for both parties. So yeah, I agree it's time to end at least one of the three wars. BUT...the other thing we as liberal citizens need to be responsible for is NOT being apathetic (ie: forgetting to vote in 2010 and handing the country over to the Tea Party or forgetting to organize protests to let Obama know we want to end the wars). We have THREE branches of government and we need to hold all three accountable and continue voting for candidates in the two branches we get to vote in. We need to stop bickering within our own party, get off the couch, march in the streets, make phone calls, send letters, send real letters and not just emails, meet personally with our leaders, and not stop until the wars end. If we keep on keeping on EVENTUALLY the powers that be have no choice but to listen. Why did Obama release his long form birth certificate even though all of us with brain cells knew he was born in Hawaii? Because a small group of extremists wouldn't shut up about it until he did something to shut them up. Going to ONE march a year or every six months posting something on Twitter about Iraq won't end a war.I do actually think it would be smart political strategy if Obama ended at least ONE... more
