The death of Stefano Cucchi, 31, killed in prison in Rome in a beating for which we don't know the culprits, and perhaps we'll never know, it is unfortunately just the latest in a long series. The best known are the stories of Marcello Lonzi, Aldo Bianzino, Niki April Gatti, Manuel Eliantonio. People arrested for crimes of minimal severity, no criminal record or with a small one, murdered or "suicided" in prison and nobody knows by whom, how, why. http://inaltreparole.net/en/news/morticarcere291009.htmlThe death of Stefano Cucchi, 31, killed in prison in Rome in a beating for which we... more

(Oct. 28) -- Words matter in Washington, and certain words are guaranteed to get you noticed -- for better or for worse. It took a while, but Rep. Alan Grayson has apologized for the word he used to describe a former lobbyist.
The freshman lawmaker who's quickly gained a reputation for inflammatory statements called Linda Robertson, an adviser to Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, a "K Street whore." (Washington's K Street is where many lobbying firms are located, and Robertson used to represent Enron.)
"I did not intend to use a term that is often, and correctly, seen as disrespectful of women," Grayson explained Tuesday.(Oct. 28) -- Words matter in Washington, and certain words are guaranteed to get you... more

There has never been a "war between prosecutors": the investigating judge in Perugia closed the procedure against judge Luigi De Magistris and the Salerno prosecutor's office, accused of termination of public service. But in fact, their only fault was investigating political abuse and corruption. Yet De Magistris and the Prosecutor of Salerno Luigi Apicella suffered disciplinary action, have been transferred and eventually Apicella has left the judiciary. The Deputy Public Prosecutors of Salerno Gabriella Nuzzi and Dionigio Verasani were transferred too. There has never been a "war between prosecutors": the investigating judge in Perugia... more

With all of the different things the President needs to take care of, is the economy of America suffering from lack of attention? What jobs take priority on the long "to do list" of the president?
Are his promises to "finish the job in defeating the Taliban" and "to fix the economy" just old political promises that go along with the job? Or will will see the "change" he promised before he was elected? With all of the different things the President needs to take care of, is the economy... more
Of all of those reacting to David Letterman's situation, Craig Ferguson had a unique perspective.
As the host of the "Late Late Show" on CBS, he follows Letterman's "Late Show." Letterman also is his boss, since Letterman's production company, Worldwide Pants, produces the "Late Late Show."
Yet it's Ferguson's job to make fun of the biggest news stories of the day. And, lately, his boss qualifies. Since announcing on "Late Show" last week that he had had sex with female members of his staff and been the victim of a $2 million blackmail threat, Letterman has played prominently in the news.
Ferguson pointed out his awkward position Monday, asking his audience to "put yourself in my position."
"The person you work for, the person you admire and respect, is caught in an embarrassing situation," said Ferguson. "And your job is to be funny about that, whilst trying to keep your own job."
"So this is my last show," he joked.
Ferguson did make light of the situation, joking that it had now been revealed how he got the job in the first place.
But Ferguson defended Letterman, calling him "the king of late-night television."

Italy is a laughable country, so ridiculous that people able to show how much Italy is laughable have to be silenced. Dario Fo is a Nobel laureate whose works should be studied in school until first grade school, but cannot even speak at the University of Milan. Last year poverty rate in America reached 13.5%. According to the Census Bureau that rate is expected to climb through this year and the next. From that poverty rate is the homeless rate which certainly is growing in proportion.
The rate of uninsured is also still rising in this jobless recovery. Palin doubles her foreign experience while talking with French President Nicolas Sarkozy today. Maybe I have been wrong about Sarah Palin. She may not have been ready to be president on day one before but now I think she is. How could I have been so wrong! She is all they say she is and more.
Actually, this prank call was made by a couple of Canadian comedians known as "The Masked Avengers." I am surprised they were able to get past her security staff but I am more amazed at how far they were able to play her. It was not only refreshing but enlightening to finally get to hear her speak openly and unscripted. Now I feel like I know her even better than before. They are not from THE PEOPLE, they don't represent the real people from the nation.
How long we will be suffering their pressurized governments? One after another.
To run a government is not in the blood, believe me. Its all about talent and passion to do it.
These rich ass sons and daughters who go to the western universities only in order to get the particular education in Political science or law and then come back to claim their family share in the gevernment so that they can rip the wealth of these countries.
Thats what they do, every one is aware of it.
So you politicians, stop doing that.
People should get elect someone else. Some one who really deserve to be there, Some one who represents the people within the people.
Someone who has suffered the same problems as people of the country.
These rich sons and daughters of rich politicians do not spend even a day of life like poor people, so how can they understand the real problems, the average man is suffering.
They rich people even drink the most expensive mineral water and yet the people do not even have water to drink.
They eat the most expensive food on earth and yet their people have nothing to eat.
Even their horses standing in the stable eat the best and cleanest food but people and human beings are deprived of that.

Dwek's role as FBI informant was 'worst-kept secret in New Jersey'
by Kelly Heyboer and Maryann Spoto
Sunday July 26, 2009, 2:00 PM
In the years after Solomon Dwek was arrested in an alleged $50 million bank fraud scam, those watching his case said the disgraced real estate investor seemed unusually relaxed for a man facing up to 30 years in prison.
When he appeared in court in connection with the case, the soft-spoken son of a rabbi was chatty. He freely revealed details of his alleged crime to opposing attorneys as if he had no plans of mounting -- or needing -- a defense.
Over the last two years, as the judge repeatedly granted federal prosecutors' requests to delay his trial, Dwek seemed unfazed. Many following the case said it was obvious the 36-year-old Monmouth County businessman had made a deal to become a federal snitch in exchange for a lighter sentence.

"His wearing a wire was the worst kept secret in New Jersey," said Dennis Kearney, an attorney representing PNC Bank in Dwek's bank fraud case. "Everyone's No. 1 conclusion has been for years the guy's been cooperating."
Whether it was obvious or not, Dwek was able to spend the last two years getting close to some of the area's most prominent religious leaders and political figures while secretly wearing a wire for the FBI.
On Thursday, the FBI arrested 44 politicians, public officials and rabbis in a historic corruption and money-laundering sting that stretched from synagogues on the Jersey Shore to city halls in Hudson County and the human organ black market in Israel.Dwek's role as FBI informant was 'worst-kept secret in New Jersey'

There's much speculation that Parliament could get a little heated today, not just because it's first day back after a holiday, but because the police raid which followed the arrest of suspected government leaker, Damian Green, has split the Labour party in two. Some members are expected to complain today, possibly casting a shadow over the Queen's historical annual opening of Parliament.
The Queen's opening of Parliament address is expected to focus on the global economy pretty much being in tatters and what can be done to try and salvage it.
Gordon Brown last night unveiled a veritable host of new laws and regulations, most notably a "one strike and you're out" for first-time sneaky benefit cheaters, the ability for police to stop anyone on the street and demand ID (even if there are 'no grounds to suspect they have committed an offence'), public services and welfare will be built upon and as part of a drive 'towards "fairness," immigrants will be forced to learn English before becoming UK citizens as well as being asked to "contribute to the cost of pressure on local public services."Not a huge surprise if happens really.
