The mother of a civilian cop whose role in ending the Fort Hood massacre was overshadowed by his tiny, female partner insisted Thursday her son deserves commendation.
"When he told me what happened, I was thinking, 'Why are they giving this woman all the credit?'" Mary Todd, 66, the mother of Sgt. Mark Todd, told the Daily News.

In this amazing video, a group of inmates in a Florida jail swarm to the safety of a 67-year-old guard being strangled by another prisoner.
Surveillance cameras captured 24-year-old Douglas Burden charge at the guard and get him in a choke hold.
Moments later, other inmates, including alleged murderers and drug traffickers, ran in but instead of helping Burden injure the guard they punched him in the face, knocking him to the floor, before helping prise the assailant's arm off the guard's neck. One inmate even radioed for help.
A large number of guards arrived shortly after the intervention and restrained the attacker.
Prison guard Anthony Brown said: "You would think that they would walk away, so somewhere in their hearts, there must be some goodness."

The low-budget short film follows the misadventures of Mega City's inept heroes as they fight the forces of evil. Captain Condor and Miss America are two of Mega City’s most famous crime fighters. For most of my life I have been facinated by mountaineer’s. I remember as a child being given various biographies and reading them cover to cover. I was gripped with their tales of courage and daring as they pushed on into the “death zone” (above 8000m)
As I have got older I have begun to unsderstand and appreciate the full cost of what these incredible adventurers and explorers undertake. The enormous level of risk that they experience and the fragility of their lives. This has a powerful effect on them and even more so their families.
I read a report titled “letter to Daniel” (his son) by the BBC reporter Fergal Keane, in it he was writing about his life as a war correspondant and the effects on his family. Igor Olshansky, 27, is hardly the first Jew to play in the NFL, but he is the league's first Soviet-born player. It's a fact that he is proud of. It has been an interesting sojourn from Dnepropetrovsk, an industrial city of 1.2 million in Ukraine about 800 miles south of Moscow.
Both grandfathers – large, powerful men whom Igor knows only through family lore – fought with the Soviet army in World War II. His maternal grandfather is said to have been wounded 11 times.
