While the makers of Rock Band are busy with the upcoming release of their Beatles version the rumour mill has kicked in about the next version - Rock Band 3.
With Guitar Hero 5 ready to hit the shelves in the coming monthes, Harmonix are going to need some new tech to kep gamers excited:
"One upcoming console technology has grabbed its attention in particular: “We will keep moving into new areas and look at new technologies that our platform holder partners are also developing, such as Project Natal from Microsoft,“ said MTV Games boss Scott Guthrie.
Guthrie didn’t go into detail about what Project Natal might do for Rock Band 3 – playing along with imaginary instruments would seem a bit farfetched, but it’s possible that the 3D camera tech could be used to put your movements into the game, allowing you to rock out in front of your crowd of virtual spectators."
Could be an interesting idea, just hope they get it right and it could be epicWhile the makers of Rock Band are busy with the upcoming release of their Beatles... more

So Pepsi, MTV and Rock Band have this really cool thing going on where you can win a Moonman at this year's Video Music Awards. A 100% authentic as real as the ones everyone else gets.
All you have to do is play Rock Band, record it, upload it and enter to win by July 28.
Of course, if you really want to win, it pays to be really creative and original.
And this is where Current viewers have an advantage. (Since you're all the awesome creative types)
The more like a music video you make your video, the more likely people are to vote for it, the more likely you are to win and hit the stage at the VMA's to accept your award.
Or, if you're too lazy to enter, you can always just go to the Pepsi Rock Band site, watch videos and vote.
(I think it goes without saying that my vote goes to the band BFF from Los Angeles for their creative use of the ever-popular yet by no means overdone "hot chicks in schoolgirl outfits" motif)So Pepsi, MTV and Rock Band have this really cool thing going on where you can win a... more

So you’ve found that special someone. Good! That’s great! When’s your date? Tonight? Isn’t tonight your Starcraft LAN party? Uh oh. Conflict. So what do you do? Bring her along? Yeah, right. That’s like bringing a Wookiee to a Klingon convention. The two just don’t mix (watch ’til the end. It’s worth it).
Well then, what’s the solution? How do you get your gaming fix while keeping the ol’ ball and chain content? Fortunately, expanding markets and cutthroat competition provide a solution. So you’ve found that special someone. Good! That’s great! When’s... more

Epic awesome news, combines gaming and music perfectly. Maybe even more so music than gaming based on the ability for artists to get their music exposed in a digital format that is constantly growing:
Most recording artists would love to have their music available on MTV Networks' "Rock Band" videogame. But MTV's Harmonix unit, the developer of "Rock Band," simply hasn't had the time or staff to program the vast number of songs it would like to include in the game.
That's about to change. Later this year, MTV plans to launch a groundbreaking initiative called the Rock Band Network that will enable any artist-unsigned emerging act, indie cult fave or major-label superstar-to submit songs for possible inclusion in the game.
The Rock Band Network recently started a closed beta trial, which MTV expects to expand to a public beta test in August. The company hopes to open the Rock Band Network store before year's end. Songs available through the new store, which will remain separate from the existing "Rock Band" store, will be initially available for download to users of Microsoft's Xbox 360 game console. MTV expects to eventually make the popular tracks available for use on the Sony PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii game systems.
"We've figured out how to make it so anybody who owns and controls masters and publishing can put music into ["Rock Band"] at their own pace," says MTV Games senior VP of electronic games and music Paul DeGooyer. "We're talking about a set of serious professional tools to allow people on the front line of writing and recording songs to completely control their destiny with respect to interactive products and then giving them direct access to the download store."
Rather than deal with Harmonix directly, artists and labels will submit songs to a community of Harmonix-trained freelance game developers who will prepare the tracks for "Rock Band." Additionally, labels can either hire trained developers or school their existing employees to do the work in-house.
Songs submitted through this process must then be reviewed by other developers to check for playability, inappropriate lyrics, copyright infringement and so on. Harmonix will post approved tracks to an in-game download store separate from its existing "Rock Band" store where creators can set their own price (50 cents to $3 per song) and receive 30% of any resulting sales. Gamers will also be able to demo 30-second samples of each track.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm on the wrong side of the Guitar Hero / Rock Band war. One of the greatest punk bands of all time, Rancid are now available as downloadable content.
The songs? Ruby Soho, Time Bomb and Last One To Die (that last one is from the new album). I don't envy singers having to sing like Tim Armstrong.
They've also added some Kings of Leon, for those of you who are into bland-o-rock and are a big fan of CONFORMING WITH THE MAN.
Excellently Rise Against have been added too - who I'm also a big fan of... they're just a bit flat live.I'm starting to wonder if I'm on the wrong side of the Guitar Hero / Rock... more

I have been reading things on the internet of getting easy Wii Points with Pepsi. Well, I made some visual proof showing this process as I didn't believe it myself.
Pepsi has some deal going on with Rock Band, every cap has a code, you enter the code into http://pepsi.yahoo.com/rockband/ and use that code to play for prizes. One of the prizes is a free Rock Band track. Every code has got me a free track, except for the last few, which I now used to get Wii Points (side note: I was a fool and also used two caps to attempt to win an actual prize, why, I have no clue).
Explanation: When you do this on the Xbox 360 or PS3, it gives you a direct download code for your chosen track. The thing is, with the Wii, there is no direct download codes, everything is on the Wii Point system, thus, they give you 200 points for your track. These points of course can be used on any Virtual Console or WiiWare title.

The latest newsletter for the 2009 Warped Tour urges fans to be on the lookout for two new track packs for Rock Band, featuring tour artists The Devil Wears Prada, Bad Religion, and more.
According to the newsletter, the two new Warped Tour track packs will be hitting the Rock Band store on June 23rd and June 30th "on Xbox Live Marketplace", which we are going to assume means they'll be hitting the PlayStation Network two days later, as per usual. Specific tracks aren't listed in the newsletter, but the band selection seems pretty solid. They've listed The Devil Wears Prada, Underoath, Bad Religion, Chiodos, A Day to Remember, Thrice, and more, meaning if your favorite band isn't listed, there's still a chance they'll show up.The latest newsletter for the 2009 Warped Tour urges fans to be on the lookout for two... more
