A new security camera soon to be assembled in Dayton could change the way our airports, police departments, and even our military keep us safe.
During a news conference Monday, November, 30, Mayor Rhine McLin and other city leaders cheered for Tech Town and a brand new high tech security camera that can "see" several miles away.
Dayton company STAN Solutions' partner, Israel based Adaptive Imaging Technologies, recently won a "Most Promising Security Start-Up" award for their high resolution, panoramic camera.
It is still in production mode, but officials said its like 50 cameras in one, and can monitor and observe areas up to six miles away.
STAN Solutions is partnering with the University of Dayton's Institute for Development and Commercialization of Advanced Sensor Technology (IDCAST) to expand the camera's capabilities with additional night time sensors.
IDCAST Director Larrell Walters said this camera its ideal for border patrol, police departments, college campuses, and security at airports.
"If police were trying to catch a bad guy, you could follow him for miles and track him down," Walters said.
Each camera costs less than $100,000.A new security camera soon to be assembled in Dayton could change the way our... more

It has won the Videofreccia contest in 2006 and it has been made with Open Source software.
The "Flaneur" is the girl hanging around in the streets.
Since the time this video has been done many people have asked me to reproduce this format on their cities to document the presence of the "big brother technology" all over european countries.

In Barcelona, Spain, 21 year-old Sergi Xavier Martinez Martinez assaulted a 16 year-old Ecuadorian girl on the metro. As Martinez gets on the bus he is having a conversation on his cell phone about his hate for immigrants. He proceeds to yell derogatory, racial epithets based on her perceived immigration status. She gets up to call the emergency telephone number 112.
Police have found the man, who denies doing it intentionally, saying he was drunk. The girl is afraid to even leave her home.
Racism and anti-immigrant sentiment go hand-in-hand in Spain, but these images speak louder than any past acounts of hate.
Here are some additional links for background of past attacks on immigrants in Spain.

The city of Chicago, in conjunction with IBM, is launching the first phase in an advanced video security network. The system would analyze camera images 24 hours a day, and could be programmed to recognize license plates, or alter emergency officials if nobody picks up a backpack in Grant Park for 30 seconds, among other things. The city of Chicago, in conjunction with IBM, is launching the first phase in an... more
