Obama offers no solutions but continues to acknowlegde Americans growing frustration.
***
Barack Obama offered more support for global financial system protesters after a weekend of demonstrations across the world.
Speaking at the dedication of a new memorial to Martin Luther King on National Mall, Washington, the U.S. President called on protesters not to 'demonise' Wall Street workers.
He said: 'Dr King would want us to challenge the excesses of Wall Street without demonising those who work there.'
Mr Obama is expected to use public anger at Wall Street excess to turn up the heat on congressional Republicans as he tries to gain support for his stalled jobs bill.
He will head to North Carolina and Virginia over the next three days - both vital to his 2012 reelection chances - in visits aimed at winning passage for parts of the $447billion jobs plan.
Spokesman Josh Earnest said: 'The president will continue to acknowledge the frustration that he himself shares about the need for Washington to do more to support our economic recovery and to ensure that the interest of the 99 per cent of Americans is well-represented.'Obama offers no solutions but continues to acknowlegde Americans growing frustration.... more

"(The bank) kept saying we can’t do anything. Your case is closed,” said Gudiel. “Our stand was, ‘No, we’re not leaving. This is our home. We worked hard for it and we’re just not going to leave.’”
But instead of the anticipated confrontation, there was a dramatic reversal of fortune. Fanny Mae canceled the eviction notice and offered the Gudiels a loan modification that could enable them keep their home.
Why? Fannie Mae and loan servicer OneWest won’t discuss the case. But nonprofit advocates say a series of bold protests — with reinforcements from the “Occupy Wall Street” movement — and a spate of media interest put Rose in the limelight and forced the banks to back down.

We need to start at the ground level just like any other idea. An end goal has a beginning, middle and end. Changing the laws against and entity that controls us isn't going to be easy so we need to start small. Here are a few ideas #OccupyPhoenix has come up with.
1. Make small signs to give to local private businesses and co-ops that say something along the lines of. 'Support local businesses. Support the 99%. to learn more visit occupywallst.org' - make it personal
2. Take the mass transit in your area to the local occupation and strike up a conversation with a total stranger in regards to the location of the occupation and attempt to talk educate them. *If you have a sign for local businesses with you and they work at or own one chances are they'd be more than happy to take one and put it up.
**Another idea would be to obtain an all day pass and continually inform people as you ride. This will allow you greater access to food, water & restrooms while allowing more people to help who may not be able to get to their local occupation.
3. If you are currently at a bank switch to a credit union asap. tip: setup your credit union account first so you can find one that fits your needs and so that you can get direct deposit, bills, current mortgages / loans switched over.
Of course by no means is this a complete list so please add to it.

President Obama broke his campaign promises in backing Bush-era trade pacts that repeat mistakes of NAFTA
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- With President Obama’s backing, Congress yesterday passed trade agreements with South Korea, Colombia and Panama that are based on the flawed model of the North American Free Trade Agreement.
Erich Pica, president of Friends of the Earth, had the following statement in response:
“President Obama broke his campaign promise by championing these unjust trade deals. The pacts with South Korea, Colombia and Panama will empower big multinational corporations and Wall Street investors to pursue quick profits at the expense of environmental protections, human rights and shared economic prosperity.
“The investment chapters of the three trade deals, which open the door to corporate attacks on environmental protections, are especially alarming. If, for instance, a South Korean uranium mining company thought a U.S. environmental law impinged on its ‘right’ to make profits, it could sue our government through a biased international tribunal, bypassing U.S. courts and threatening to override decisions made through our democratic institutions.
“The passage of the Colombia deal is downright shameful. This deal promises to fuel ongoing armed conflict in Colombia, including intimidation and murder of local activists and union leaders. The deal will also encourage foreign investments in destructive palm oil plantations, mines, oil drilling and other projects designed to exploit Colombia’s natural resources and export the profits overseas. Afro-Colombian and indigenous peoples are at particular risk of displacement.
“As polls demonstrate, Americans understand that current U.S. trade policies are not working in the public interest. As protesters on Wall Street and in other cities across the country challenge the deepening poverty, unemployment and inequality in our country, President Obama has led us toward more of the same.
“President Obama must change course as he negotiates the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement. The Trans-Pacific Partnership, and its investment chapter in particular, must not be based on the same failed and unjust model.”

"The police need to join us in the same way the Egyptian army joined the people in Freedom Square there in Cairo. This is my appeal to the New York Police Department -- to police departments all over the country: You are working class people. You're not paid enough. You have the most dangerous job in the country and these rich bastards on Wall Street, they have ruined your 401Ks, your pension funds, your future, your children's future. Money that should be going to having better law enforcement has gone to needless wars in other lands. So, my appeal to the police is, you are as and we are you. Join us. It's fun. We'll even let you beat on a bongo drum." -- Michael Moore on Lawrence O'Donnell's The very Last Word, Friday, October 14th, 2011

In a nation where problem's are resolved on TV programs within a thirty to sixty minute time frame and products that can cure everything from hair loss to relationship problems are marketed to people who have become so impatient that they can't wait for a meal longer than it takes for the person at the drive through to hand them their order it's no wonder that the initial response to the Occupy Wall Street movement has been one of confusion. The fact that there are so many people with so many different issues and no quick answers has led some to the conclusion that the lack of structure and a recognizable leader is a sign of weakness. Others have gone as far as to dismiss the movement by resorting to cliches about protestors rooted in what they perceive were the more destructive aspects of the activism of the 1960's. The truth is that the shear volume of issues in itself is reason enough for the protest. People have become fed up with not having a say in how their lives and their Country are run. The majority of people do not want handouts. What they do want is an equal opportunity to live and be as productive as they can. When 99% of American citizens are forced to pay more of their income in taxes than the 1% who pay little to none of theirs is it any wonder people are enraged? The image of the protestors as pot smoking hippies who want everything handed to them may be a convenient talking point but it couldn't be further from the truth. It is a Peoples protest and despite what some in power or the media may think it is not something that will go away just because the weather starts to turn bad or they stop talking about it. It may appear to be chaotic and disorganized on the surface but at it's root it is the reason this nation works. Whenever Politicians and self serving Business People have lost track of who and what we are as a nation it is in our best interest to remind them in the loudest and most creative ways we know how. Democracy is chaotic and loud and creative and far better than any of the alternatives. Stand Strong, Speak Loud and never let the Bully's win!In a nation where problem's are resolved on TV programs within a thirty to sixty... more

Let's take the message of the #occupy movement directly to millions of Americans by getting this video on mainstream TV.
Why should we get this on TV?
The mainstream media doesn't get it. They're trying to discredit the #occupy movement as bunch of uninformed extremists who don't know what we want. But, we know who we are and we know what we want: we're a big, diverse movement that's fighting for an economy that works for all of us, not just the top 1%.
Let's take this video from YouTube to cable TV. Let's break through the media barrier and keep spreading the movement. If enough of us chip in a little bit, we can definitely make that happen.
What will happen with the video?
When we hit our fundraising goal, we'll be able to put this video on the air during popular cable TV shows (like Seinfeld repeats or Sports Center). It will run just like a normal ad.
If we don't hit our goal, you'll get your money returned to you. LoudSauce uses Amazon to process the payments, so it's super secure.
Who are we?
This video was shot in New York City at Occupy Wall Street and produced by director David Sauvage and composer Glenn Grossman. Also jumping in was Sauvage's longtime friend and colleague Ted Markovic, who provided them with the resources to make this happen.
A few of us saw it on YouTube and thought: this should be on TV. Thanks to LoudSauce, and folks like you, hopefully that will be possible!
Go to the Loudsauce link and donate now! The goal is $5,000 and already they have raised over $1,600 as of this post!Let's take the message of the #occupy movement directly to millions of Americans... more

Hundreds of office cleaners and guards marched on Wednesday near Wall Street demanding good jobs and protesting economic inequality, while a smaller group of demonstrators rallied at JPMorgan Chase's skyscraper.
The marches were part of a growing Occupy Wall Street movement, the month-long protests that have inspired solidarity rallies planned for Thursday at some 90 U.S. college campuses. Demonstrations have occurred in more than 1,400 cities around the world.
The movement began on Sept. 17, when protesters set up camp in a park near Wall Street in Lower Manhattan, upset that the billions of dollars in bank bailouts doled out during the recession allowed them to resume earning huge profits while average Americans have had no relief from high unemployment and job insecurity.
Participants also say they are angry that the richest 1 percent of Americans do not pay their fair share of taxes.
More than 750 cleaners, security guards and other building service workers converged on the financial district to march for better-paying jobs, while at a nearby rally outside a JPMorgan Chase skyscraper police said about 100 people simply walked around the building and then returned to their camp in the park.
Police said they arrested four people at the bank building.
Barricades had been placed outside the JPMorgan Chase building in preparation for the protest, and many police officers stood on duty.
The building service workers union, the Service Employees International Union, which organized the march, said contracts for tens of thousands of workers are about to expire.
"We're out here because there's no jobs and we're about to lose our jobs. We're tired and we're fed up and we need these people in here to hear us," said Carla Thomas, 47, a building security guard, gesturing toward Wall Street.
At a rally in San Francisco, 11 protesters were arrested on Wednesday when up to 200 people demonstrated at the Wells Fargo corporate headquarters, blocking entrances and sticking posters on the building, one which read: "My bank went to bail-out land and all I got was a lousy recession."Hundreds of office cleaners and guards marched on Wednesday near Wall Street demanding... more

While the mainstream media criticizes the demonstrators for being anarchist hippies, corporate media outlets don’t actually go into the crowd that much to listen to what the frustrated people have to say.
Reporters go live from across the street. TV satellite trucks are on stand-by for violence and arrests. The independent and foreign channels are the ones covering the important issues from within the action. RT’s Anastasia Churkina takes a look at media coverage of Occupy Wall Street.
Step 1 – Ignore. Step 2 – Ridicule. Step 3 – Undermine. That’s the approach some media outlets seem to have been taking when it comes to Occupy Wall Street.
“The real big thing that this movement needs to do is to appeal directly to the millions of people who are direct victims of what has happened since 2008,” said editorial columnist and author Ted Rall.
This has been tough to do through mainstream media outlets.
“America is all about having your voice heard. No matter how stupid that voice may be.”
“It’s a joke. They just want to have a party. It’s their lame excuse to have burning man, right? It’s a joke."
These are some of the many criticisms from corporate news channels while covering the Occupy Wall Street movement.
“The media in America, it’s a joke,” counter argued comedian Travis Pinon.
“We’re not hippies, we are not trying to have an excuse to party around. These are working people. People actually come from work, come here, and volunteer their time,” explained one of the protesters, Rafael Moreno.
Showing up at the protest without the network’s logo, FOX News Channel has spear headed operation Undermine Occupy Wall Street.
“All they have to do is take a shower and then get a job, if they went to college,” said host Bill O’Reilly in his show.
FOX’s coverage has seen a hit below-the-belt approach prevail.
“They are going to chop up whatever you say, and they are going to leave the truth on the cutting floor, and they’re going to run with whatever pushes their narrative,” said protester Jesse LaGreca.
It’s no secret that it’s the corporations, protested against at the encampment, that own the big TV networks in the US.
“People are standing up against corporations that actually run the media. Benito Mussolini defined fascism as a collaboration of corporation and government. Welcome to America, guys! That’s what it is. This is fascism at its finest,” said comedian and protester Travis Pinon.
Little interest in substance or analysis has been shown, like exploring why Americans have been driven out onto the street.

Red State’s Erick Erickson Creates Occupy Wall Street Alternative ‘We Are The 53 Percent’
Right-wing blogger Erick Erickson has started a “We Are The 53 Percent” Tumblr as a conservative alternative to Occupy Wall Street, referencing the 53% of Americans who pay federal income tax, ostensibly in contrast to the protesters who do not.
Erickson reportedly worked with Josh Trevino, of the conservative Texas Public Policy Foundation, and conservative filmmaker Mike Wilson to launch the site.
53% refers to a statistic that 47% of Americans don’t pay income tax, which has become a popular conservative talking point.
The idea of the “We Are The 53 Percent” Tumblr is that Occupy Wall Street protesters — who call themselves “the 99%” and have their own Tumblr featuring written testimonials from people who have fallen on tough economic times — are those who don’t pay their taxes, and who won’t take personal responsibility for their troubles.
“I would like to point out to these people that I work three jobs, can’t sell my house in this economy, still am paying massive student loans, and somehow or another do not blame Wall Street for my situation,” Erickson wrote in a post on Red State. “In fact, I’m one of the 53% — the 53% of Americans subsidizing these people so they can go hang out on Wall Street to complain.”

Joseph Dear, Chief Investment Officer CALPERS - Oct. 11, 2011
People are “waking up” to the fact that “the game appears to be rigged,” Joe Dear, CIO of California Public Employees’ Retirement System, told CNBC Tuesday.
“The financial system gets bailed out, executives' salaries stay high and the incomes of people who work for a living, paycheck to paycheck, continue to decline,” said Dear.
The fact that people are taking to the streets because the economy isn't meeting the needs of ordinary Americans "should not come as any surprise to anybody," he explained.Joseph Dear, Chief Investment Officer CALPERS - Oct. 11, 2011
