19 NOVEMBER 2007: Coal Train Blockaded
Grassroots climate change action group Rising Tide has blockaded a coal train on its way into the worlds biggest coal export port, at Kooragang Island in Newcastle Harbour. No trains are able to enter Kooragang Coal Terminal because of the blockade.
We are taking action today on behalf of our children, and for all those species that will be pushed to the extinction by climate change. It is unconscionable for the Government and the coal industry to continue profiting from accelerating greenhouse gas emissions in this way.

If theres no action before 2012, thats too late... What we do in the next two to three years will determine our future. This is the defining moment. From the newswire: November 15, 2007 - This morning fifteen Greenpeace activists were arrested during an occupation of the Munmorah coal-fired power station in NSW. 15 crew occupied and took peaceful direct action to shut down the plant as a protest against John Howard and Kevin Rudd's ineffective climate change policies
Greenpeace demands that both major parties commit to deep cuts to Australia's greenhouse gas pollution in the next decade, which means switching from coal fired power to cleaner and smarter energy use.
The activists shut down the coal-feed conveyor belt and painted the message Coal Kills on the roof of the station and deployed a banner saying Climate change starts here. Two other activists hung from the roof displaying climate change messages.
The Munmorah coal-fired power station is the oldest in NSW and one of the most inefficient in the country. Energy campaigner John Hepburn, who was one of the climb team, said that we couldn't just sit back and watch while scientists measure how quickly humans are killing the planet. "We need to cut carbon emissions right now. It's not complicated..." From the newswire: November 15, 2007 - This morning fifteen Greenpeace activists were... more

Do you think NUCLEAR POWER is the solution to GLOBAL WARMING?
--Currently the US has 104 Nuclear Reactors, providing only 20% of our electricity.
--On September 11th, 2001, American Airlines flight 11 flew over Indian Point nuclear reactor, en route to the World Trade Center.
--20 million people could have been contaminated with deadly radiation and thousands of square miles lost forever.
--MIT concluded that a minimum of 1,500 new reactors would be needed globally to offset coal carbon emissions.
--"The next Chernobyl may be Chernobyl itself"
--Even now, Chernobyl's damaged nuclear reactor is leaking lethal doses of radiation,
--------------and there is no safe way to dispose of nuclear waste.
Now, consider that a 100 square mile solar farm could power the entire United States.

Wondering why autumn's riot of red, yellow and orange came late this year? It's not actually rising temperatures that are causing the shift in the color shift, but the rising levels of carbon dioxide.Wondering why autumn's riot of red, yellow and orange came late this year?... more
And basically there are two main reasons currently why:// I like his stance regarding the climate crisis, and I like that he seems genuine regarding his concern for working Americans and lifting up the lower and middle classes. However, I would like to hear him state (unless he did and I missed it) that he would do more to rescind the Patriot Act and do away with unitary executive power. I also have to read up more on his healthcare plan as I am for single payer, but am willing to look at other plans that hopefully bring competition to lower costs without compromising quality. And I state this as someone who is down on the political system as a whole but realizes that I must still do my duty and vote and also hope. Therefore, at this point I am leaning towards John Edwards, though I am also very impressed with Dennis Kucinich and his courage in standing up for impeachment and his views on trade. The next couple of months leading into the spring will be the deciding factor for me, and also the climate change presidential forum Mr. Gore is putting together in NH next month that I am really looking forward to. And just to explain, even though I am leaning towards John Edwards in this election cycle, Al Gore will always be in my heart and have my full support in whatever he does. So if you are leaning now towards one particular candidate, let's discuss why here and what you want from them. I think it's time they heard us.And basically there are two main reasons currently why:// I like his stance regarding... more

What is it with the media that neither the extent of the climate change emergency nor emerging corporations already up & running with hopeful new inventions are being reported on?
What does the little guy have to say about anything these days?
I found some choices I could make where, with little or no extra cost to me, I can vote with my money.
The number crunchers won't see them unless they're multiplied exponentially like global warming feedback loops.
Not possible? I dunno, do we have any other choice?

I took to the streets of Birmingham UK and asked people what they thought of my idea, would they support it and how would they spend a day without a car?
As you will see we had some great responses and it exceeded my expectations.
