The votes are tallied, and the results are in from our first round of layoffs, and Bono is getting fired. I’ve compiled the bugger-off letter from your comments, and I have to say, it’s a mighty fine letter.
You can read it in our blog here:

We're now taking nominations for the next band to be put on the chopping block. Who has one too many members than we can support in these trying times? The votes are tallied, and the results are in from our first round of layoffs, and... more

The Times UK published an article yesterday about how even the world’s richest musicians have suffered tremendous financial losses over the past year. Times are tight, and cutbacks aren’t enough. It’s time for layoffs, so each day this week, we’re giving you a chance to fire a member of a band. Here's how it goes:
1. You watch a video we post from the band on the chopping block.
2. You vote in the comment section for who you think should be fired.
3. You also write a line why they should be fired.
4. We tally the votes and copy & paste together the reasons you all submitted to create the first ever crowd-sourced pink slip/ mad lib and post it on our blog the following morning, then maybe we'll create a fake email address and send it to the band with David Fricke's name on it.
For instance today’s band is U2, so you could write, “Dear the Edge, it has come to our attention that you have been in the band for over 20 years and yet you still play guitar like a third grader with a flipper hand, thus, you are fired.“
Also, feel free to suggest bands that need to have someone fired. The Times UK published an article yesterday about how even the world’s richest... more

As the economy worsens the "new homeless" search the streets for food and shelter. They are now being turned away in droves. They continue to wander the streets and stay in vacant lots, behind office buildings, parks and abandon homes. I met a couple who was turned away many times and are in economic shell shock. Yesterday we had our first upset. In the Bands that Coldplay Ripped Off Division, number 15 seed Joe Satriani knocked off number 2 seed U2 7-4. I guess lifting one song directly from Satriani was enough to make up for being completely derivative of U2 for years.

In the Bands that Coldplay Ripped Off Division, we’ve got a big game today. It’s (2) U2 vs (15) Joe Satriani. Coldplay tries so hard to sound like U2 that we couldn’t pick just one song, so the clip we’re using is a retrospective of their career. Guitar god Joe Satriani is a force to be reckoned with too. As we all know claims to have written Viva La Vida, to which Coldplay responded, “yeah, get in line.”
Watch both the clips below and vote in the comment section. The band that gets the most votes will move on to the next round. In the Bands that Coldplay Ripped Off Division, we’ve got a big game today.... more

March Madness is under way, and we’re all about co-opting your excitement, so we’ve created our own tournament. The 2009 Coldplay-off! We’ve taken 16 bands that sound like they ripped off Coldplay, and 16 legendary bands that sound like Coldplay ripped them off, and we’re pitting them against each other.
Monday morning, we’re posting our official bracket. Then everyday there will be two games: one pitting two of the world’s best bands that Coldplay ripped off (think Radiohead or U2) against each other, and one matching up two of the world’s worst Coldplay spawns (think the Fray or Snowpatrol—but don’t think it for long). Then you vote for the winner in the comment section, and as far as I know, there’s no rule against using multiple screen names, so vote early, and vote often. It all starts this Monday!March Madness is under way, and we’re all about co-opting your excitement, so... more

Tickets are expected to cost at least $100 and with jobs haemorrhaging from the economy, most credit cards withdrawn and the average American now living off an annual income equal to the cost of The Edge’s sunglasses, there is widespread concern that normal music fans won’t be able to afford to go.

Aging rockers U2 have topped the UK album charts for the 10th time with their new album No Line On The Horizon.
The achievement makes the rock band one of the top five album chart acts of all time, says the Official Chart Company.
U2 are joint third along with Madonna and the Rolling Stones, but Elvis Presley and The Beatles still have more UK number one albums to their credit.
But it still doesn't make Bono interesting.Aging rockers U2 have topped the UK album charts for the 10th time with their new... more
