Overtaking a bus on a blind corner? So fast, that neither had time to even react.
At least nine people, including eight children, were killed in Afghanistan today after a school bus hit an insurgent-planted bomb in the Khash Rod district of the countrys southwestern Nimroz province, according to officials.
The bus was reportedly carrying female students, and in addition to the nine passengers killed, 10 were also wounded.
Three were flown to a coalition hospital for treatment, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said.
"This is a horrific tragedy and demonstrates the indiscriminate killing of civilians from IEDs [improvised explosive devices] planted by insurgents," said US Army Col. Rafael Torres, ISAF Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director.
"ISAF condemns this violence in the strongest possible terms. Our thoughts and concerns are with the families of this senseless crime," he said.At least nine people, including eight children, were killed in Afghanistan today after... more

A troubled head teacher couldn't afford an extension to the school, so instead he brought a massive double decker bus on the internet and converted it into a science bus (with terrible 90s slogans on the side).
Being taught in an eBay £3,500 bus does sound '2 kool 4 skool', with its lower deck science lab and upper deck classroom. The bus has passed health and safety checks and is supplied with water and energy supplies for the laboratory.
"Parc Eglos school in Helston had planned a classroom extension but could not find the £15,000 needed. So the headteacher, Brett Dye, found a suitable bus on eBay and then travelled 400 miles to Lancashire to collect the £3,500 vehicle. If you live in a rural area, how would higher bus fares and services affect you? depending on the areas, sometimes the buses are not the best services to rely on but are still important for many people going to work and school.
However with the budget cuts, the Guardian is reporting transport cuts will be felt badly for the bus services and fares in rural areas. "It's a combination of fare increases and reduction in routes available and for many people the challenge of getting into work would be significant."-Guardian quoting Labour MP Angela Smith
Another statement in the article claims cuts to the £500m bus service grant would discriminate against non car users. "Stephen Joseph, CBT's executive director, said: "It will tip the bus industry into a spiral of higher fares and fewer services."-Guardian
I've found bus fares are currently okayish, but the service in rural areas are already limited and out of date, compared to the bus transport in London and Cardiff. If you live in a rural area, how would higher bus fares and services affect you?... more

If you steal a double decker bus and go on a joy ride, which causes £30,000 + damage, it's probably not a good idea to post the footage of yourself riding the bus around.
Especially if in the footage you show your face saying we're driving a double decker, take the round about the wrong way, smash the windows, don't do that you'll roll it over and if we get caught no comment all the way.

CARMEL, Ind. -- A family has filed suit against Carmel Clay Schools after they said a bus driver was caught on tape berating their daughter about her religious beliefs.
Edward Zimmer said bus driver Betty Campbell harassed and caused emotional distress to his middle school daughter, Rachael, in November of 2008, 6News' Renee Jameson reported.
He said the incident began during a ride home from school when his daughter told another student that she would never vote for President Barack Obama because of her anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage beliefs.

Non-Londoners look away now. Because there are certain things that the rest of the country finds a little, well, odd about its capital citizens.
Like the fact we take the most disgusting of all fish, the eel, as our signature dish and then further ruin them by encasing them in jelly. Or that a person can have a screaming fit on a crowded tube train and not a soul will say a word. And the fact we care about our buses.
When the time came to retire the old Routemaster buses - you remember, the ones you could jump on and off when, inevitably, the bus was moving slower than walking pace – there was uproar. And it was a cross-party uproar. Tories didn’t like part of our heritage disappearing. Left-wingers saw it as the people’s will being trampled. And the rest of us just resented sitting in a traffic jam for 20 minutes while the bus stop was just 200 yards away.
So come the last mayoral election, with a city sliding into debt, the Olympics hoving into view, and knife crime seemingly endemic, what was near the top of London’s agenda? Boris’s promise to reintroduce the Routemaster, that’s what.
So now, deep into the Johnsonian reign – the Routemasters return. It’s a new design from Heatherwick Studio, that in truth bears little resemblance to the old Routemaster, (and, as was amusingly pointed out on Twitter, with a fringe that makes it look appealingly like the first Emo-bus).
Reasons to be cheerful? The aforementioned fringe, the chance of swinging casually from the pole by the open back door like some sixties’ Carnaby Street cat, and not one but two staircases to avoid slowcoaches. There’s also a promise of a conductor; good news for a city where the bendy-buses are known simply as ‘free buses’ to millions of passengers.
Not so good? Well, the open platform – the very thing that connects the new design with the Routemaster name - can be closed when there is ‘no conductor’ which, given cost-cutting measures, you can bet will be frequently. And these are only mock-ups – the real things won’t on our streets until late 2011.

At least 28 wedding guests have been killed when their bus hit a power cable in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, according to police.
Passengers on the bus were electrocuted and died instantly, police said.
The electricity supply wire was overhanging the road in Mandla district when it was hit by the bus which was reportedly carrying 60 passengers.
Police say that at least 30 passengers are being treated in two hospitals for electric shock and burn injuries.
"The accident happened 475km (295 miles) east of Bhopal, the capital of the state," police chief KK Sharma told AFP news agency.
He said the incident happened when a metal cabinet on the bus's roof came into contact with the high-voltage power cable, electrocuting the passengers.
Most of the victims were women, police said.
It was the second such incident in India in as many days, correspondents say.
At least 10 people were killed in the eastern state of Bihar on Thursday when a truck carrying passengers touched a high-voltage wire.
