A 6.5-yard satellite dish with more than 9,000 pounds of hummus, the stuff of both consensus and controversy in the Middle East. The new record beats one set only two months ago in Lebanon, which has been waging a culinary-rights war with Israel for the last two years. In the past, Lebanese industrialists have pushed for registration of falafel, tabouleh and other elements of traditional Middle Eastern cuisine as Lebanese to protect them from what they call plundering by the Israeli market.
Hummus doesn't belong to anybody, says Jawdat Ibrahim, proprietor of the Abu Gosh restaurant and the organizer of the event. He hadn't slept in two days but he was beaming, groom-like, and patiently received one media crew after the other covering the event, which turned into a sunny street-party for all, including many Jewish guests who came to celebrate with their Arab neighbors.

More than a thousand fans of the cult musical The Rocky Horror Show have taken part in a bid to break the world record for the largest Time Warp dance.
It is estimated that at least 1,500 people, many dressed in costumes, pelvic-thrusted their way into the record books on Brighton seafront.
Show creator Richard O'Brien and the UK stage cast also took part.
Guinness World Records has yet to confirm whether the attempt has fulfilled its criteria.
The current world record was set by 192 people in Hanley Park, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, in July 2008.
More than 1,000 people took part in an unofficial mass Time Warp dance in Melbourne, Australia, in September 2008. ...

Music fans partner with UK charity to massage their way into the history books
430 people lined-up to create an army of masseuses in the Guinness World Record for the longest back massage chain which was organised by v, the National Young Volunteers Service, and took place at the Leeds festival - The previous record was 260 people.
v staged the world record attempt at the Leeds Festival to illustrate how simple and easy it is to do others a favour – including giving a person a massage.
The World Record is part of v’s Outdoor Favours campaign to show teens and young adults how fun and easy it is to do a favour for someone, no matter how big or small. The campaign has been touring the UK’s hottest festivals to help inspire the nation’s 16-25 year olds to spend some time volunteering.

Salt Lake City woman who held a Guinness World Record for her long fingernails before they broke off in a car crash says it was the most dramatic event of her life. But Lee Redmond, who lost the fingernails in February, says it's now much easier to do things and her hands seem to fly with the weight of the nails gone.
The 68-year-old won't grow her nails out again, saying it took 30 years the first time and she may not live for another 30.
Redmond hadn't cut her nails since 1979 and entered the Guinness World Records book in 2002 for longest fingernails on a woman.

A new world record for the largest custard pie fight has been set in Colchester with 253 people gathering to throw 648 pies - filled with 200 litres of custard - in just a few minutes.
Marco Frigatti, vice president of Record Management at Guinness World Records, said the contest had to be conducted under official rules, including measuring the pies, counting them, and having each person in the fight throw at least twice.

The TV program "Anpanman" has been recognized by Guinness World Records as having the most characters in an animated series, Nippon TV said.
As of March, the weekly program had featured 1,768 different characters, according to an official Guinness registration in June, NTV spokeswoman Shigeko Chino said Thursday.
The television version of "Anpanman" began airing on Oct. 3, 1988. Long popular with children, the titular hero's head is a bun filled with sweet bean paste, hence the name, which means Red-Bean-Bread Man in English.
Most of the other characters are related to food, including Shokupanman (Loaf-of-Bread Man), Jamu-Ojisan (Jam-Middle-Aged Man) and Omusubiman (Rice-Ball Man.)
The "anime" teaches children to wash their hands and brush their teeth by showing Anpanman always defeating his archrival, Baikinman (Germ Man).
"We received this honor because we have kept airing the program for 21 years. Those who were children then have become adults and are watching it with their own children," NTV producer Toshio Nakatani said in a statement.
In addition to the TV series, there have been 20 "Anpanman" movies.

A 151-pound cupcake in Minneapolis has been certified as the world's largest.
The 1-foot tall, 2-foot wide cupcake on display Saturday at the Minneapolis Mall of America had 15 pounds of fudge filling and 60 pounds of yellow icing.
Guinness World Records adjudicator Danny Girton Jr. called it a "fun and creative achievement."

Meanwhile WoW was awarded most popular MMORPG (surprise) and Call of Duty 4 has deservedly earned most played online Video Game.
More importantly though, what's your high score at Wii golf? World record is now -15 if you believe wii-records.com. Poor Efel the pet chicken needed a bit of egging on for her latest effort. It took her a week of preparation and half an hour of pushing before she could unleash her creation on the world: an egg three times the size of a regular egg and one of the biggest ever recorded.
Her owner, 11-year-old Gabrielle Needler, from Reigate, Surrey, was shocked when she saw the egg in the coop. She said: 'Efel didn't lay for a week and we wondered why. Then she laid this massive egg so she was obviously saving it all up. It took her half an hour to lay this one - normally it only takes about five minutes.'
The egg weighed in at 194 grammes, or about 7oz. The family have written to Guinness to see if it is a record breaker, but have since learned that the biggest ever recorded was an egg-tastic 340grams, from an English hen in 1896.
Gabrielle's mother, Kim, said: 'I can only imagine it was a giant hen - or the poor girl must have suffered horribly. I reckon ours must at least be the biggest in the country for a century. Gabrielle is so proud she won't let anyone else hold it.'

Never mind the ick factor, a Utah boy is trying to get into the record books by covering his face with live snails.
Eleven-year-old Fin Keheler, from Sandy, allowed 43 of the slimy mollusks to be put on his face Saturday. He wants the Guinness World Records to verify his effort.
The Guinness web site says the record set in 2007 for snails on the face for 10 seconds is eight. The boy says he has since learned the record was 36.
Fin made three attempts on Saturday. Sitting back in a reclining chair, snails gathered from neighbors' gardens were carefully placed on his face. Those that remained for at least 10 seconds were counted.

On April 1, Otok Ben-Hvar climbed inside a 1940s-era phone booth with wheels and walked half a mile to the outdoor patio of a produce market. Otok, white-haired and jovial, was equipped with everything he'd need to live inside the red, white and blue booth until his 72nd birthday on April 29.

A Frenchman has broken the world record for the longest nonstop speech after talking for 124 hours about Salvador Dali and Catalan culture, amongst other topics. Lluis Colet spoke for an incredible five days and four nights, starting by reciting the works of famous authors and his own writing.
