"Dave “Phoenix” Farrell, bass player of the band Linkin Park, shares his impressions following a trip to Haiti with Music for Relief and the United Nations Foundation. Phoenix traveled to Haiti to see firsthand how the United Nations is helping Haiti rebuild, fifteen months after a major earthquake killed hundreds of thousands and destroyed much of the nation’s infrastructure.
Along with other participating artists, Phoenix is encouraging fans to visit http://downloadtodonate.org (or text "RELIEF" to 41010) and make a $10 donation as part of non-profit organization Music for Relief's work to support the recovery. In return, supporters gain access to a digital album featuring unreleased tracks by a growing number of artists, including Alanis Morissette, Glitch Mob, Crystal Method, Slash, and the original song by Linkin Park, Not Alone. Since it’s inauguration in 2005, the charity has raised more than $4 million for victims of natural disasters around the world, including Hurricane Katrina, monsoon flooding in Pakistan, and the tsunami in Japan. Since the earthquake, Download to Donate for Haiti has raised more than $270,000 supporting the work of five organizations in Haiti including the UN Foundation."Dave “Phoenix” Farrell, bass player of the band Linkin Park, shares... more

The group saw its and first beginings in emcee/vocalist Mike Shinoda's small bed room studio, where he and Brad Delson recorded the band's first material in 1996. The 2 had attended high school together, the place they met the group's drummer, Rob Bourdon. Shinoda attached with DJ Joseph Hahn at the same time as learning illustration at Art Center College in Pasadena.
While, attending UCLA, Delson shared an condo with bassist Phoenix, who left the group after school and returned a year later. At this point, they named themselves Xero and recorded a few demo tracks. They by no means got signed, and the venture floundered. Then Shinoda determined to hire a vocalist, and put out an ad. They were given Chester Bennington, a transplanted Arizona native who started making albums whilst he was once 16. 'When I was two, I used to run round singing Foreigner songs - there may be tapes of me doing that... in view that I realized how you can communicate I've been telling everyone I was gonna grow up to be a vocalist.' laughs Bennington.
The band known as itself Hybrid Theory after the addition of Bennington (the concept being that they have been a hybrid of rock and rap), however, as a result of an indicator issue with a band known as Hybrid, they had been compelled to change their group name. Some discarded ideas (serious or not) had been Clear (the group's favorite), Probing Lagers (which they concept was the lamest), Ten PM Stocker (because they might record each night time at 10 pm at a place on Stocker Street) and Platinum Lotus Foundation. Eventually, they settled on Lincoln Park, urged by way of Bennington as a result of after group practice he must power previous there to get home. However the domain 'lincolnpark.com' price more than the band may just afford, so they modified the spelling to Linkin Park. However, it has additionally been instructed that the name 'Linkin Park' used to be steered in order that the band would appear proper next to Limp Bizkit at record stores.

It contained the singles, 'Somewhere I Belong', 'Faint', 'Numb', 'From The Inside' and 'Breaking The Habit'. Later in the year, they joined forces with fellow nu-metal band Limp Bizkit and Metallica for the Summer Sanitarium Tour 2003. From this tour, Linkin Park launched a brand new CD/DVD set called Live in Texas. This set contains songs from their 3 earlier records, and was filmed on location at their Summer Sanitarium performances in Dallas and Houston, Texas .
In 2004, Linkin Park created the Meteora World Tour. This excursion included Linkin Park, P.O.D., Hoobastank, and Story of the Year.

They also had a traveling DJ, Z-Trip with them, along side Irvin the Urban Action Figure.
On November 30, 2004, Linkin Park launched Collision Course, a collaboration with rapper Jay-Z that includes rap-style remixes ('mash-ups') of songs from Meteora and Hybrid Theory the usage of lyrics from Jay-Z's repertoire. Collision Course debuted at number 1 in the US, however handiest got to # 17 in the UK. In Holland Collision Course made it to a seventh place. Today on Current Music:
+ Dead Man's Bones—aka Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields—announced their upcoming tour dates with a suitably creepy ad. The album was recorded with the help of a children's choir, and on tour there will be local groups adding the choral parts into the stage show. There's also going to be a talent show instead of opening bands. Why would I make something like this up?
+ The Dead Weather—aka Jack White's latest project—will play a free gig on Wednesday at an LA record store owned by White.
+ Dead by Sunrise—aka Linkin Park's Chester Bennington and friends—offer a peek behind the scenes of their album, out October 13.
+ Song I am most looking forward to on Jay-Z's The Blueprint 3: "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)." The album also features collaborations with Rihanna, Kanye West, Timbaland, Drake and more. Can we get a sticker like the kind they put on organic fruit for organic sounds? FRESH! No Auto-Tune was harmed in the making of this record!
