The Pentagon Wants Iraq Pact & To Extend Supplies Contracts, ( for Halliburton's Benefit, or Whose? )
"Under the current agreement, all U.S. forces must be removed from Iraq by Dec. 31. Senior U.S. officials, however, have said recently they expect Baghdad will ask Washington to keep some forces there after the new year."
"Pentagon officials want a new security pact with Iraq, ...,so they can extend support contracts."
WHO, is calling the shots here, and for WHOSE benefit? We've been asked to leave by the Iraqis. We've been asked to leave by the American Public! To stay any longer so that war supplies manufacturers can get richer on the backs of the American public while cuts to social security and medicare are being considered, is treason! It is another exploitation of the American public for corporate enrichment. Write your legislators and the President to abide the public's will and take our money and children out of Iraq now, and leave no one behind! If you can't afford our social security and medicare, we can't afford Iraq!

"Bipartisan talks falter; Boehner, Reid work on separate proposals"
Excuse the four letters, but FUCK our corrupt Congress! Kick them to the curb!
OPEN LETTER:
Mr. President,
There is no time and the People have no more patience. We will not accept cuts to social security or medicare at all! We will STORM Washington to prevent it, if necessary. Get it? Particularly while you are still permitting the Pentagon to loose and steal our money. Particularly while you are tolerating the subsidizing of Big Oil, Big Banking, Big Military, and Wall Street, in countless insidious ways. If you need money to balance the budget, get it from them. They have trillions of it, and it's all our money. We demand that they balance the budget and pay off the debt! The 14 trillion dollars spent on the bailouts equals the debt. Get the money back with interest and we're done. Do not deceive yourself, we are no longer ignorant and oblivious to the fraud tha government has perpetrated against the People for centuries. You write the budget and present it to congress for approval. If they don't approve it as you present it, unilaterally raise the ceiling and then get our money back from the thieving corporations which have been stealing it for decades and decades. Period!

Earlier this week Old-Thinker News reported on statements made by Pentagon contractor and “perception manager” John Rendon regarding the manipulation of internet content algorithms with the intent to “shape belief sets.” In further revelations, the Pentagon has unveiled on Thursday a project developed by DARPA that will utilize social media as an information warfare tool.
As Wired Magazine reports, “The Pentagon is looking to build a tool to sniff out social media propaganda campaigns and spit some counter-spin right back at it.” The report issued by DARPA titled “Social Media in Strategic Communication (SMISC)” is available online here.
Among other things, the project will “Detect, classify, measure and track the (a) formation, development and spread of ideas and concepts (memes), and (b) purposeful or deceptive messaging and misinformation.” In response, the Pentagon will engage in “Counter messaging of detected adversary influence operations.”
What will the Pentagon consider “…deceptive messaging and misinformation”?
The military-industrial-complex can initiate any meme of its liking. The Arab Spring revolution that began in Egypt was largely supported by social media and Twitter. Iran is currently being targeted by an “internet in a suitcase” campaign launched by the United States in an attempt to spark revolution.
In his newly released book The Filter Bubble: What the internet is hiding from you, Eli Pariser of Moveon.org interviews Pentagon contractor John Rendon, where he candidly spoke of perception management in the digital world. Specifically, Rendon hints that he knows how to game the system of search engine algorithms – the system by which pages are ranked and internet searches are displayed – and in turn shift the mindset of the masses....

Boeing charged the U.S. Army $1,678.61 for a plastic roller assembly that could have been purchased for $7.71 internally from the Department of Defense’s (DoD) own supplies. In another transaction, a thin metal pin worth 4 cents that the DoD had on hand, unused by the tens of thousands, ended up costing the Army $71.01—a markup of more than 177,000 percent. The transactions for spare helicopter parts are detailed in a previously unavailable Department of Defense (DoD) Inspector General’s report obtained by the Project On Government Oversight (POGO).
In all, Boeing overcharged the Army nearly $13 million in dozens of transactions, jacking up the price on small, mundane parts in some cases up to thousands of times more than they were worth, according to the Inspector General’s (IG) report.
The full, unredacted IG report, which POGO is making public for the first time, found that the Army paid Boeing nearly $23 million for parts that should have cost only $10 million. On average, taxpayers were overpaying 131.5 percent above “fair and reasonable” prices Boeing should have charged, according to the May 3 report. What is even more shocking is the price difference between what Boeing charged and the prices that could have been paid had the Army bought many of these items from the DoD’s own in-house supplier, the Defense Logistics Agency. The 177,000 percent example is based on a comparison with Boeing’s unit price with the logistics agency unit price.
“We’re not sure which is more outrageous—Boeing’s audacity in ripping off taxpayers, or the Army blindly accepting Boeing’s jacked-up prices,” said Danielle Brian, POGO’s executive director. “This report raises serious questions about whether this is symptomatic of a much larger problem with oversight of contracts.”
As Capitol Hill debates whether the defense budget should be cut, the DoD IG report shows that there is rampant waste within the DoD’s supply chain, increasing the costs of maintaining and operating weapon systems.
In calculating what the Army should have paid, the IG figured in a 34 percent markup to represent Boeing’s overhead, general and administrative costs, and profit. The report found that the Army contracting officers rarely, if ever, questioned the prices Boeing charged. Additionally, Boeing routinely negotiated significantly lower prices with its suppliers after overcharging the Army.
The Army has resisted obtaining refunds worth several million dollars on some of the overpriced spare parts, in opposition to the DoD IG’s recommendations. For instance, one of the IG’s recommendations was that the Army should request a $6 million refund from Boeing for charging the Army for higher subcontractor prices even though Boeing negotiated lower prices from those subcontractors. In response, the Army said that "there is no justification to request a refund.”

War doesn’t victimize truth, the overseas press corps does. The assault on Libya is real, but the coverage is an invention. Facts about the NATO assault get in the way of elaborate fictions. “The bombing of a university in Tripoli, Libya ought to create a sensation, but that information never makes it onto the front pages.”
The corporate media continue to follow the dictates of people in power, ignoring their obligation to report factual information in as unbiased a way as possible. Instead they behave like scribes in a royal court, dutifully repeating the words of the king in hopes of currying favor and gaining access. Their shameless behavior is on view yet again as another president with imperial aspirations tells obvious lies in order to gain support for wars of aggression.
At the urging of the United States government and NATO, the International Criminal Court has piled on its anti-Muammar Qaddafi rhetoric. One prosecutor even claims that Qaddafi is giving his troops Viagra and using rape as a weapon of war. He has done so without presenting any evidence and even worse, the American media are repeating the assertions without investigation of any kind.
When George W. Bush made the case for invading Iraq, he too used rape as a rhetorical weapon of war, claiming that Saddam Hussein had “rape rooms” in his palaces that were used to assault dissidents. In 2003 as in 2011, the claim was reported without evidence.
If a president lies about his reasons for killing people, the lie is never exposed. Sometimes the media are so eager for the story which won’t upset the powerful, that they will extend the parameters of their falsehoods.
Such was the case with “Amina,” a Syrian blogger and lesbian who wrote critically about the regime of President Assad. The blog “A Gay Girl in Damascus” was followed by incredulous people all over the world, but it turned out that Amina never existed. The blog and Amina were the creations of a heterosexual American man living in Scotland who wanted to hasten the end of Assad’s days in power. When the non-existent Amina was reported missing, an alleged kidnap victim of the Syrian police, even the state department grew alarmed and made inquiries as to her safety.
The hypocrisy manifested on the part of the United States government is quite stunning. While denying or minimizing the loss of lives caused by its actions in Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia, Haiti and on the part of any of its allies, the government was willing to use its power to ensure the safety of one person in Syria.War doesn’t victimize truth, the overseas press corps does. A bipartisan group of US lawmakers filed suit against President Barack Obama on Wednesday, saying US military operations in Libya are "illegal" because they do not have congressional approval.
Democrat Dennis Kucinich of Ohio and nine other members of the House of Representatives signed the lawsuit challenging what they described as Obama's circumvention of Congress in authorizing the use of military force in a protracted effort to oust longtime Libyan ruler Moamer Kadhafi.
"With regard to the war in Libya, we believe that the law was violated. We have asked the courts to move to protect the American people from the results of these illegal policies," Kucinich said in a statement as the lawmakers filed their suit in a federal court in Washington.
The US Constitution stipulates that only Congress has the right to declare war.

Osama bin Laden is dead, was not even (allegedly) killed in Afghanistan, but the war on terror goes on and looks it will go on indefinitely.
***
American and Afghan officials are locked in increasingly acrimonious secret talks about a long-term security agreement which is likely to see US troops, spies and air power based in the troubled country for decades.
Though not publicised, negotiations have been under way for more than a month to secure a strategic partnership agreement which would include an American presence beyond the end of 2014 – the agreed date for all 130,000 combat troops to leave — despite continuing public debate in Washington and among other members of the 49-nation coalition fighting in Afghanistan about the speed of the withdrawal.
American officials admit that although Hillary Clinton, the US secretary of state, recently said Washington did not want any "permanent" bases in Afghanistan, her phrasing allows a variety of possible arrangements.
"There are US troops in various countries for some considerable lengths of time which are not there permanently," a US official told the Guardian.Osama bin Laden is dead, was not even (allegedly) killed in Afghanistan, but the war... more

Icing Osama bin Laden? Just the beginning, once Leon Panetta makes it to the Pentagon.
At his Thursday confirmation hearing to become secretary of defense, CIA Director Panetta made a broad case for expanding the U.S.’ already extensive shadow wars. Now that bin Laden is dead, “we’ve got to keep the pressure up,” Panetta urged senators. Expect a lot of drone strikes and a lot of special ops raids — some conducted by future CIA Director David Petraeus. In a lot of places.
Panetta said he wants to hit al-Qaida’s “nodes” from Pakistan to North Africa, “develop[ing] operations in each of those areas,” so terrorists have “no place to escape.” That means working with the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), the elite commandos that executed the raid on bin Laden’s Abbotabad compound. And Panetta has some specific ideas about how that should work.
In his written responses to the Senate Armed Services Committee, Panetta endorsed a command scheme that would place select U.S. military personnel temporarily under the authority of the CIA director for the most sensitive counterterrorism operations. Panetta told the committee that it’s “appropriate for the head of such department or agency [read: CIA] to direct the operations of the element providing that military support while working with the Secretary of Defense.” A “significant advantage of doing so,” he continued, “is that it permits the robust operational capability of the U.S. Armed Forces to be applied when needed.”
That’s contentious: it would put the military in the territory of performing operations that the government can legally deny all knowledge of ordering, something obviously problematic for uniformed military personnel. ”A potential disadvantage,” Panetta conceded, “is that the department or agency
receiving the support may not be specifically organized or equipped to direct and control operations by
military forces.”
The U.S. reportedly employed that command structure in the highly exceptional case of the bin Laden raid, putting Navy SEALs under CIA Director Panetta’s command. Panetta is essentially talking about lowering the standards for which JSOC gets loaned out to CIA missions, in order to finish al-Qaida off in the post-bin Laden era.
That fits his pattern at the CIA: Panetta expanded the list of targets that Predator drones could hit far beyond the seniormost al-Qaida operatives. Already, the skies above Yemen are filled with armed planes hunting terrorists — a JSOC mission “closely coordinated” with the CIA, according to the New York Times.
With the U.S. growing weary of big land wars, that looks more like the counterterrorism model to expect in the coming years, with Panetta atop the Pentagon and his old CIA chair filled by Gen. David Petraeus. (Good thing Petraeus has some experience working with Special Operations Forces.) Indeed, Panetta told the committee that succeeding in Afghanistan “is dependent” on knocking out al-Qaida’s Pakistani safe havens — something U.S. officials have been loath to say, since it implies the Afghanistan war is focused on the wrong country. The “right country,” by Panetta’s logic, would be a place where the CIA and JSOC hunt.
And it’s not just Pakistan, nor just Yemen: al-Qaida’s “nodes” are in Somalia, “North Africa” and Iraq as well, Panetta said. He even claimed a whopping 1000 al-Qaida operatives are still at large in Iraq. That dwarfs the “more than 300″ al-Qaida operatives in Pakistan, according to an estimate last year from Michael Leiter, the outgoing director of the National Counterterrorism Center. No wonder Panetta thinks the U.S. should stay in Iraq after 2011.wired-

“The Obama administration has created and staffed a new position tucked inside their communications shop for helping coordinate rapid response to unfavorable stories and fostering and improving relations with the progressive online community,” reports the Huffington Post.
The man tasked with the role of “disseminating push back” against Obama’s online critics by direct order of the White House will be Jesse Lee, a blogger who has previously put out White House spin in response to claims made by Glenn Beck.
“The post is a new one for this White House. Rapid response has been the purview of the Democratic National Committee (and will continue to be). Lee’s hire, however, suggests that a portion of it will now be handled from within the administration. It also signals that the White House will be adopting a more aggressive engagement in the online world in the months ahead.”
“If you’re going to post something online about Obama that isn’t true, Lee is going to be the one to handle you,” reports Chris O’Shea, noting that the move is about “squashing any negative stories” that could derail Obama’s re-election bid.

All things come down to a choice, a fork in the road, yes or no, now or later, this not that, more or less. With each song I create there are literally thousands of decisions and adjustments from inception to release. Decision making is the process that paves our path in life. If we make elegant choices even from humble beginnings, existence becomes less of a struggle and we can open to what’s next. In other words, you make your own luck. Choice is the engine of creation, of change and we’re the self determined hamsters on our own personal wheel of fortune.
