Abuse and mistreatment at Children's Hospital, Aurora CO

December 6, 2011

To Whom It May Concern:

On Wednesday, November 30th at approximately 5:35pm I arrived at the Children’s Hospital with a blood sugar level of around 400. I collapsed on the floor of the emergency room due to being in diabetic ketoacidosis and severe dehydration. I immediately informed the security officer that I was in possession of a concealed weapons permit and an unloaded handgun on my right side. The security officer properly took possession of both.

Immediately thereafter the doctors and nurses arrived and picked me up off the floor and put me on a stretcher. I then informed the doctors and staff that I was a Type I diabetic, that my glucose level was at about 400 and that I needed insulin immediately. I informed them of this information as I was going in and out of consciousness. In the emergency room I also informed them that I have Thoracic Outlet Syndrome which causes severe pain. The severe dehydration was further causing excruciating pain due to the compression of my brachial plexus nerves. As I was screaming in pain laying on the bed and begging for help, the medical staff was mocking me by making moaning sounds and making fun of me. Multiple times I repeated to the medical staff attending to me the conditions that I have and that I needed insulin. At which point a female doctor looked at me and said, “I am not giving you insulin.” However, they had already had me on an IV which was providing fluids and morphine medication for the pain.

Following this, I was transported to the Medical Center of Aurora in an ambulance, where I was also denied insulin, and arrived sometime around 6:45pm – 7:00pm. When I arrived, I was met by a security officer and doctors and was taken to room 9 in their emergency room. I informed their staff that I was in need of insulin due to my blood glucose level being over 400, which they also verified with a finger prick test. The male nurse that was attending to me was rude, yelling at me and told me, “You need to chill out, dude.” all because I kept begging for a shot of insulin. I was left in the room for approximately forty minutes to an hour before the attending physician in the emergency room, arrived. Upon entering my room he asked, “What is it we can do for you?” Again, I informed him that my blood sugar level was critically high and that I was in dire need of insulin at which point he left the room. Another forty-five minutes or so had passed and I had still not received any insulin. At this point, I began to yell for help. I overheard the nurses at the nursing station mocking my cries for help. It was approximately 9 p.m. when I used my cell phone to call my wife to ask her to wake up the children and bring a syringe, my insulin and prescription to the emergency room so that I could self medicate due to the lack of care given to me at the hospital. The male nurse entered the room while I was on the phone with my wife and he overhead my pleas for my wife to bring me my medicine. Four or five minutes later, the nurse arrived with syringes in hand.

Expecting to be given insulin at that time, I called my wife back and informed her to stay home with the children because they were now going to give me insulin. Although I thought I was given the medication, another forty minutes to an hour passed before the nurse injected the insulin into my IV. At this point I was in extremely critical condition and was then transported to the intensive care unit.

Upon arrival in the ICU, the attending nurse informed me that there was a false rumor among all the medical staff previously attending to me that I had entered the Children’s Hospital waving my handgun in the air. The nurse continued to tell me that this false claim had very recently been corrected. It was finally at this point in time that I started to receive humane, respectful and proper care for my critical medical condition. My critical health forced me to stay in the intensive care unit for two and a half days. Due to the lack of immediate proper medical attention that I needed, more specifically, the lack of insulin I requested, my health quickly deteriorated and unnecessarily forced me to be admitted into the intensive care unit. Up to that point, I experienced undue mockery and improper care by the medical staff at both the Children’s Hospital and the Medical Center of Aurora emergency rooms, based on the false claim that had been made against me. The escalating severity of my health conditions could have been completely avoided if I had been properly treated.

Since reporting this abuse to both hospitals I have been made to feel that Aurora South is taking these allegations seriously and have been in close contact with me. The staff at Children's Hospital however has been less than concerned. They also had the nerve to admit that their security staff was rude and making smirks to my wife and me because they searched my vehicle and found a small bag of my medical marijuana. I believe that this was also an illegal search since I did nothing wrong and did not give anyone permission to search my vehicle. If I committed a crime the police should have been notified. I was also informed by the staff at the Children's Hospital that they do not have to administer insulin to a diabetic entering diabetic ketoacidosis; apparently, they can choose whether or not they want to administer it. This sounds like a way to discriminate and cause unnecessary pain, permanent damage, and possible death to whomever they want for whatever reason they choose. They should be held accountable for their actions.

I can say I have experienced how a hero is treated and how they treat someone they suspect is a criminal. I was treated like royalty when I had my hand slammed in a car door and dragged down the ally while trying to stop a robbery in progress. I had a possible broken hand and the doctors and staff said they heard what I did and was going to the front of the line ahead of everyone else. The Weaker Sex and Army of One

When Deloris Gillespie walked into an elevator, she was unaware that a man was waiting for her. With white gloves and a dust mask, he started to spray the 73-year-old woman with gasoline. As Deloris turned around and crouched, in an attempt to protect herself, the man continued to methodically douse her. He then pulled-out a lighter, ignited a rag in a bottle, and while backing out of the elevator, tossed the flaming bottle on Deloris who was huddled on the floor. Deloris was burned to death.

During a demonstration in Cairo, Egypt, military police charged towards fleeing protesters as the army surrounded and then stormed into Tahrir Square. One woman, wearing an Islamic headscarf, was grabbed and hauled down a street. The heavily armed uniformed band of men viciously clubbed and repeatedly beat and kicked her. At one point, they stopped and started to stomp on her semi-naked chest. As the men continued to yank her body along the asphalt, they beat her in the face with sticks.

After his pre-emptive war failed to find weapons of mass destruction, then-President George W. Bush promised equality and freedom to the people of Iraq. President Barack Obama has just hailed the U.S.-Iraqi War, and its lengthy and bloody occupation, a "great achievement" and "success." But for women, they remain victims of violence, trafficking and kidnappings, in some cases working slaves. Before the war, women in Iraq enjoyed strong protection and opportunities. Now, there are more than one million widows.

Anthropologists have found that early humans, who were hunters and gatherers, lived in small-scale social groups. These kin-based units included collective or common ownership of land and resources, reciprocity in the distribution of food, and political power sharing. Some agree too that both women and men participated in foraging and hunting for food. Such cooperation and collective values produced little division of labour between the sexes, including the absence of male supremacy over women.

Early human sites and settlements also reveal that it was natural for men to worship female fertility gods and pray to them. On the island of Crete, the Minoans worshiped a great Mother Earth Goddess who ruled over the other gods. Artwork depicts women as priestesses and in charge of shrines, aided by male assistants. There is evidence that the Minoans were peaceful and nurturing, since there were no signs of fortifications. Other Asian and Indus cultures worshipped mother goddesses and their life-giving principles.

Under such hunting and gathering or small societies, the need to carry children on the daily round of gathering and on the periodic moves of the whole camp had led to very low birth-rates. Women could not afford to have more than one child who required carrying at a time, so births were spaced every three or four years. But as the Neolithic Revolution supplanted the Palaeolithic Age, children, born of women, represented the future labour and military supply of the village as a whole.

War, virtually unknown in simple societies, became a more prominent feature as city-states evolved into nations and empires. The premium for military conquest and agricultural output was large families. Did this limit women, since they appear to be more vulnerable during child-bearing and the birthing process? By the time of Homer's Iliad and the Book of Genesis, a violent, warlike, patriarchal society had emerged. Whereas the Trojan War is defined by Helen, Eve tempted Adam and they were expelled from the Garden of Eden.

Western-based writings by males also tended to extol the virtue of violence on and off the battlefield and in war. Instead of hunting and gathering for the good of the family, a "warrior" and "killer" instinct developed, one that was extremely self-centered. The worship of aggressive and violent warrior kings, even the worship of war-like and genocidal gods, replaced mother goddesses and fertility. Adherence to death and destruction, along with violent sacrifice, overtook life and creation and peaceful nurture.

Do male Armies of One, individual or collective, that beat and kill women and produce widows, whether in New York, Egypt or Iraq, have a cruel and twisted primordial urge? Maybe they violently resent that women are primarily responsible for the continuance of humankind and its political and economical livelihood or that women are of immeasurable worth and hold a kind of divine status and knowledge. The psychologically and emotionally weak resort to war and bloodshed. Seldom is this observed among women.

Until the weaker sex, or men, give birth too, it would be wise to heed this ancient truth: "Where women, verily, are honoured, there the gods rejoice; where, however, they are not honoured, there all sacred rights prove fruitless."

Leaked witness interview proves Lexington detectives set up Kavanaugh.

A recent interview with the victim of the attempted bus depot attack 2 years ago proves that Lexington detectives decided to 'pin' the attack on Kavanaugh from the very start. The interview was leaked to LexiLeaks and then passed on to me.

Pleas Lucian Kavanaugh has been dealing with false arrests for over ten years. Detective Elizabeth Adams was involved in Kavanaugh's early arrests a decade ago. Adams does not hide her contempt for Kavanaugh after her loss in those cases.

More recently, Kavanaugh was chosen by Adams' partner's daughter, Morgan Persley, as her attacker on October 24, 2009. Detective Adams and Detective Persley have both been demoted to officer after behavior in Persley's daughter's case and other cases showed lack of integrity. Kavanaugh was found not guilty at trial in the Persley case.

The bus depot incident happened just five weeks after the Persley incident. However, the victim in this case has been ignored by the prosecution and hidden from the defense for almost two years. Just prior to the upcoming trial in this case the defense was allowed to interview the victim, Laura Baker. Not long after this interview, the prosecution suddenly, after two years, dismissed the case at a status hearing. An investigation into this interview shows clearly why this case was dismissed.

I have taken the interview and divided it into sections to emphasize each piece of evidence proving that Adams decided to pin this on Kavanaugh from the start and did everything she could, regardless of the evidence, to try to convict Kavanaugh of a crime she knew he did not commit.

TOUR DE BADNESS | FUND RAISING EVENT | SXSW

Hello World,

Initially there was no notion, motive, or single-minded purpose of me going through the outright anguish of taking an approximately 173-183 mile bike ride from University of Houston to University of Austin besides the pure curiosity of being able to do so. And making it to SXSW blabbing about what I pulled off this time. Thus as the conquest of the thought progressed, a friend of mine said, “Why not do it for a cause? You don’t want to bike all that way with followers just because.” My mind in humorous essence impulsively said yes! Why was I not thinking of that? Think of how many people could benefit from this; how many people that are not being heard or helped in whatever their situation may be. The entirety of the trip could possibly change many lives. That is the hankering incentive that just moves me. I began to thresh out the many causes that I would stand up for and represent. Emphasis on many, because I could not just pick one. There is no limit to the possibilities, choices, and I want to reach out to as many people as possible. So I chose five causes that are extremely important to me and have shaped the way I viewed a full scale of things in my lifetime. Hunger/homelessness, Abuse, Creative Arts, Cancer,Cardiovascular issues. Now grant it if no one chose to follow me in the riot, I will be the loudest by myself all the way to Austin, Texas. That is a set and stone, done deal. But to be an informant, this exploration is worth the sweat. There is someone that is down on their luck right now, struggling, dying, crying, hurting, and fighting for a change. I will be holding the first annual Tour De Badness cycling fundraiser in March 2012. Which will consist of followers everywhere cycling from University of Houston to University of Texas-Austin, during the Film/Music Festival "SXSW." Tour De Badness is for five causes as I have told you. We would be more than honored for you to help us reach as many people as possible in order expand the awareness of this event, and hopefully sponsorship! We hope that you take this into consideration, and be apart of this monumental push to help hundreds, thousands, and even millions.

Will REDD protect natural forests and local livelihoods?

In July I attended a public debate in London on the potential for REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) to make international forestry more just. The debate brought together a wide variety of stakeholders in REDD in order to assess its possibilities and its frailties. The panel leading the discussion included John Vidal from the Guardian and representatives from DFID, ODI, and FERN among others. What became increasingly clear during the debate is that although the international community appeared to be pushing on with REDD, it remains a highly contested and confused idea.

For those still unsure of what the initiative is, REDD is an effort to create a financial value for the carbon stored in forests. It offers incentives for developing countries to reduce emissions from forested lands and invest in low-carbon paths to sustainable development. However, the discussion highlighted fears that REDD may perpetuate, or even deepen, forest people’s historical dispossession from their forests.

The discussion focused on the concept of justice within REDD and the focal point of the evening turned out to be “local justice”. The question was - what is happening to the local people on the ground where these initiatives are implemented? It became increasingly clear, by hearing arguments from members of FERN and from those on the ground, that it is forest people that often are the ones who are most negatively affected by these projects. There is an overriding fear that REDD may not be dissimilar to other big money projects affecting the forests. For instance, a member of the audience, who had worked on a REDD project in Peru, stated that it was seen as more dangerous than palm oil plantations. The fear is that these projects can potentially, and almost by nature, take over entire forests, leaving indigenous people to lose the land earmarked for these REDD projects.

During the evening, several other members of the audience stated it was governments, and not large corporations, who were taking control of the forests. The ODI representative feared that REDD projects will reaffirm the ownership of the forests by the state. For example, as the government controls the carbon it trades, the forests fall under their control. This will go on to reinforce highly centralized, top down decision-making, something GBM works to move away from.

The panel was in agreement about what must be done, forest peoples and local communities must be included and able to make decisions for the future of forests in all REDD projects. Increasing evidence from Brazil and elsewhere indicates that tenure reform, that is placing control of forest resources into the hands of indigenous and other forest-dependent communities, contributes to local well-being and forest protection.
