"A court in the ultra-conservative kingdom of Saudi Arabia is punishing a female victim of gang rape with 200 lashes and six months in jail, a newspaper reported on Thursday."
The sentence was originally 90 lashes but she was retried and it got more than doubled.
Our allies. Furthers our own hypocrisy. Who needs a wmd when you have systemic governmentally enforced persecution?
Does anyone ask the President about stuff like this? If so can you link a clip?"A court in the ultra-conservative kingdom of Saudi Arabia is punishing a female... more

The US terrorist watch list includes more than 755,000 names and continues to grow, the US Government Accountability Office said Wednesday.
The list exploded from fewer than 20 entries before the September 11, 2001 attacks to more than 150,000 just a few months later, after the Terrorist Screening Center (TSC) was created in December 2003 to keep tabs on terrorist suspects, according to the GAO, the non-partisan investigative arm of Congress. The US terrorist watch list includes more than 755,000 names and continues to grow,... more

I wonder when they will stop.
And when the MSM will make a big deal out of this instead of some judge somewhere telling us that global warming doesn't have anything to do with coral reef bleaching and sea levels cannot possibly rise by 6 meters before 3000.I wonder when they will stop.

"US President George W. Bush said Wednesday that he had warned world leaders they must prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons "if you're interested in avoiding World War III."
There's a link to the video on the website. Couldn't get it to show up in post.
Scary way to start the morning.
Does he realize that the stuff he says to our media makes it around the world? That the dumb stuff he says off the cuff to our press actually matters to leaders of other countries?
Nah...probably not.
Now why didn't I bring a change of pants to work today?"US President George W. Bush said Wednesday that he had warned world leaders they... more

So few liberals have ANY understanding of the depotic genius of neoconservative foreign policy. Militancy for resourse gain is the most historically proven foreign policy, now, yesterday, and tomorrow. If your going to criticize war for oil you best the strange realistic brilliance of the practice. Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Libby, all the historically-aware realists that brought us Iraq II, had it all planned out and saw Sept 11 as the opportunity. So few liberals have ANY understanding of the depotic genius of neoconservative... more

A federal judge from Missoula, MT has warned Bush's top forestry official that he may go to jail for contempt of court. The case was brought to court by Forest Service Employees for Environmental Ethics. They are challenging the use of a fire retardant containing ammonium phosphate that was used by the U.S. Forest Service to fight wildfires. In 2002 the substance was used in a fire in Central Oregon. It polluted Fall Creek and killed 20,000 fish.
The other reason to love Missoula:

The New York Times had a report yesterday about some secret opinions that basically gave the A-Ok to torture during interrogations of prisoners.
Understandably, members of Congress, especially the ones on the Intelligence Committee, who are responsible for oversight of the CIA's detention and interrogation programs, are pissed to learn about these things from a newspaper rather than from the Department of Justice.
The White House stance is: we can't tell you or show you the docs, but "any procedures that they use are tough, safe, necessary and lawful. But see, that's the problem. It's kind of like to-may-to or to-mah-to. What you say is 'tough', normal people think of as 'torture'. You say 'lawful', normal people say 'illegal'.The New York Times had a report yesterday about some secret opinions that basically... more

The fight over interrogation tactics has been all over the news over the past few years. What hasn't been are the secret opinions that the Bush Administration wrote and signed that exempt the harshest methods: as congress outlawed "cruel, inhuman and degrading" tactics, the Justice department said: these methods are not cruel, inhuman or degrading, go right ahead.
Sickening. The fight over interrogation tactics has been all over the news over the past few... more

Seems like a few in the Bush Administration would like to see the principles of No Child Left Behind applied at the collegiate level. Because that policy has worked so wonderfully at the lower levels that we should definitely try to subject our universities to it.
