Mass gathering of the "I'm a photographer, not at terrorist" campaign in Trafalgar Square in central London at 12 noon on Saturday 23rd January, 2010 to protest against anti-terror legislation which impacts photographers. Section 44, or s44, is used by police to stop and search photographers, both amateur and professional. The concern is that it'll impact greatly on the visual historical record of our times.

It's an event that's sweeping the globe! First in London, then San Francisco, now Washington, DC!
Dandies and Quaintrelles put on their finest tweeds and throwback gear, polished up their vintage bikes and took to the streets of DC this past Sunday. The glorious bike ride brought together over 300 dapper ladies and gents, in character, as they rode down Capitol Hill, through downtown DC, and past the White House. NPR reported that the First Lady even took a peek at all the commotion outside.
This was DC's first Tweed Ride... the first effort by a new DC social group called "Dandies and Quaintrelles" The Tweed Ride raised money for the elderly and Alzheimer's research.
Look for future Tweed Rides coming to a city near you! It's an event that's sweeping the globe! First in London, then San... more

Check it out- flash mobs are awesome, Shepard Fairey is awesome, and the Burmese Junta sucks. This is going to be sick if it's pulled off successfully!
"This weekend, we’re at it again. Sunday at exactly 4:00 p.m., we will be staging a flash mob at the Abbot Kinney Music Festival in Venice. To participate, grab your free poster created by artist Shepard Fairey depicting Aung San Suu Kyi. When the clock strikes 4:00, unfurl your poster and stand in silence for five minutes, in solidarity with Aung San Suu Kyi and to raise awareness about her imprisonment as a symbol for the issues plaguing Burma."Check it out- flash mobs are awesome, Shepard Fairey is awesome, and the Burmese Junta... more

I have seen flash mob videos, but this is the first that made me smile with its awesomeness. Enjoy.
The notes from the video description: This is the official clip from BOUNCE & Friends. More than 300 dancers met at 15.30, got informed and then
learned the choreography in 30 min. Less then 1 hour later they performed it.
A big thank you to all the dancers who made this possible....*I have seen flash mob videos, but this is the first that made me smile with its... more

Last week T-Mobile held a flash mob in Trafalagar Square, which followed their previous flash mob in Liverpool station. Now Sky have created a flash mob style ad with Gisele Bundchen to lauch Sky HD. A number of people are questioning whether it was a real flash mob or just a brilliantly shot ad.
Wonder if we're getting jaded of all the flash mobs now? Perhaps this is going to ruin the spontaneity of "true" flash mobs with no commercial companies invovled.Last week T-Mobile held a flash mob in Trafalagar Square, which followed their... more

Flash mobs are typically formed for the amusement of attendees and spectators, but Carrotmob has turned the flash mob into an engine for social change. Carrotmob convinces consumer flash mobs to shop at retailers who have agreed to contribute a percentage of their income towards making their operation more environmentally friendly. The newly formed NYC wing of Carrotmob pits two Brooklyn hardware stores against each other in a bidding war for the highest percentage of sales to go towards the cause. Carrotmob then spreads with word using tools like Facebook and Twitter to launch the first ever New York City reverse boycott.Flash mobs are typically formed for the amusement of attendees and spectators, but... more

Another flash mob routine broke out at Piccadily Circus to generate publicity for some company or product. Aren't they a bit boriing now and a bit commercial? Doesn't the fact that companies are using them for promotion taking the whole point of what a flash mob is supposed to be about? and why do people still go nuts for them stalking them with camera phones?

Authorities in San Francisco have announced a crackdown on "flash mobs" after a mass pillow fight on Valentine's Day left the city with clean-up costs estimated at over $20,000 (£14,600).
The worldwide phenomenon of flash mobs - in which groups of people suddenly appear at pre-arranged public places - works mainly via tip-offs through websites and text messages, with no identifiable leaders.
But it rained during this year's annual pillow fight, and mountains of sticky feathers clogged municipal drains, flooding streets and business premises.
"It was quite a mess, much more than we have experienced in previous years," said Mohammed Nuru, the city's deputy director of public works. "Everywhere was feathers."Authorities in San Francisco have announced a crackdown on "flash mobs"... more

Partly anarchistic, partly absurdist, the international fad of "Flash Mobs" - in which a mob of participants suddenly materializes at a public place, engages in odd behavior and then disperses - is causing increasing headaches for the city of San Francisco.
This year's Valentine's Day pillow fight was, quite simply, a mess, causing thousands of dollars in damage and leaving behind mounds of wet, sticky feathers which clogged drains, caused the flooding of a restaurant and forced a city fountain to be emptied. In it's aftermath, the city is looking for ways to prevent future flash mob gatherings.
Of course, attempts to contact the organizers of the pillow fights, or other flash mob gatherings, proved futile.Partly anarchistic, partly absurdist, the international fad of "Flash Mobs"... more

On Saturday, June 7, 2008, about 30 people calling themselves "Public Displays of Musical Affection" began dancing to Bjork's version of the song, "It's Oh So Quiet," in Union Square in San Francisco. The participants, dressed as businessmen, food service employees, messengers, tourists and other people that one would expect to see wandering around Union Square. There was no indication that a performance was about to begin. One person started dancing, and one by one, the other dancers joined her as if they were suddenly inspired to join in.On Saturday, June 7, 2008, about 30 people calling themselves "Public Displays of... more
