In yet another attempt to ‘ensure our liberties’, congress is currently debating Stop Online Piracy Act – aka SOPA. The very fact that their current laws are unenforceable due to a lack of personnel and funding, congress apparently feels that more laws are the answer…again. In their twisted heads, they seem to believe that by denying a dns (domain name service) entry onto the web via its ISP (Internet Service Provider), they can somehow save money. Just a few minor holes into this thing that I would like to shoot down right now.
1 – Smaller ISP’s are to be more impacted by this than the larger ones – small wonder as to why the big dogs in the major Companies support this nonsense (for a list of supporting companies, go t......

Beneath discarded DVD players and antiquated bass guitars sits in a peculiar item at in a Holland, Michigan pawn shop. An Afghanistan War veteran walked into the A-Z Outlet last month, handed the proprietor his Purple Heart and left with cash.
Bryan VandenBosch, owner of the East Michigan consignment shop, says the man had the same story that every other client comes in with. “He was short on funds,” he tells the Holland Sentinel.
The soldier, who has not been identified, came into VandenBosch’s shop just shy of Thanksgiving this year in need of some holiday cash. While he has not spoken to the press at length of his service, he admitted to the Sentinel that a bullet ripped through his body while serving overseas and he earned two Purple Hearts for his courageous service to America.
Since 1932, the honor has been awarded in the name of the US president to Armed Forces personnel injured in combat and in the past has been given to such notable vets as President John F Kennedy, Senator John McCain and former-Secretary of State Colin Powell.
Holland VFW Post Commander Marcel Estrada has also been awarded the honors and adds to the Sentinel that everyone has a different take on the medal. While the veteran says he cherishes the award, with the country facing dire economic times, however, he could understand what would move the unidentified man to make such a decision.
It must be a really extreme situation to do that,” he tells the Sentinel, “but we have to respect his decision.”
A study published by the 100,000 Homeless Campaign earlier this year revealed that while fewer than one-in-ten Americans served their country, 15.2 percent of the country’s population that lives on the street is composed of Armed Service veterans. Additionally, homeless veterans are 11 percentage points more likely to develop life-threatening illnesses while on the streets when compared to non-servicemen.
“They are coming home to a disproportionate rate of homelessness, of foreclosures and evictions. In 2010 a whopping 75,000 Iraq and Afghanistan veterans in the United States were homeless; were sleeping on the streets,” Iraq war veteran Michael Prysner tells RT. “They are coming home to an unemployment rate of about 30 percent for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans. This is triple the national average.”
In Michigan where the Purple Heart was pawned, veteran unemployment is higher than in any other state.
VandenBosch adds to the Sentinel that despite offers for the medal, he is refusing to sell it until the soldier himself returns for it. "[In case] the gentleman wants it, it's never going to be sold," he says.

In a commentary that appeared in the Financial Times on Saturday, 46-year-old journalist Jonathan Ford wonders what the obsessive pursuit of youth, which was a distinctive feature of British politics, the bottom has a logical basis. Ford, I've known for twenty years, when very young, wrote of finance for The Evening Standard notes that, paradoxically, at a time of crisis like this, where they run parallel with the 30's if not 1870, is back to chasing people experience in seeking advice. So, beyond the 71-year-old Kenneth Clarke, Minister of Justice Cameron of the Government but also seasoned former Chancellor of the Exchequer (perhaps one of the best post-war) of the Major government, the media chasing formerly known as the founder of the party 81enne Shirley Williams Social, or the 78 year-old Michael Heseltine, Conservative Margaret Thatcher's arch rival, passing through a gallery of characters taken from the August mothballs. Ford uncomfortable even Moses, saying that in front of epidemics such as pestilence and locusts, in his eighties and had the authority to deal with that experience comes with age. Officially it never was called an "Emergency summit." But with the European currency only days from collapse according to many economists, it was clear that European leaders came to beg the American president for help.
A closed-door conversation today between US President Barack Obama and European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso dealt with, among other things, the ongoing crisis that is spreading out of the Eurozone and into the United States.
And according to statements courtesy of Obama, the time of American intervention could be coming soon, and at a monumental cost to the American public.
The European debt crisis, says the president, is of “huge importance” to the United States, and the Obama administration is “ready to do our part” in keeping the economy overseas afloat.
As Obama attempts to postpone the impeding crumbling of the American economy — and his own administration — the president could propose a bailout to the countries of the European Union that could cost taxpayers upwards of trillions. Given that RT reported earlier today on the massive bailout extended from the Federal Reserve to the biggest banks in the country between 2008 and 2010, an offering of trillions couldn’t be out of the question.
What could be, however, are the details of the deal.
Three years after the Fed first helped out the big banks, only today was it revealed that nearly $8 trillion went to the “too big to fail” institutions to prevent just that — a massive failure. With a failure overseas impacting the worldwide economy, Obama’s comments today could imply that American funds will go to preventing a collapse of the dozen-plus countries tied to the Euro.
A collapse of the Euro could cause detrimental consequences for the American economy — an economy that has proved unstable as most evident in the unemployment rate that seems to have stayed dire since Obama entered office in 2009. In hopes of securing the presidency during the 2012 election, Obama could stand to benefit by investing in the Euro and keeping those countries tied to the currency afloat. With closed-door talks and secret deals bringing forth these talks, however, discrete deals between his administration and European officials could cause concern for American voters over the president’s alleged transparency.
Also in question is whether or not America — teetering between a rebound readmission of a recession — can afford to invest upwards of trillions into foreign nations.
Failure to compromise on the country’s deficit dilemma by the congressional supercommittee caused a Capitol Hill freakout last week, and is slated to trigger over a trillion automatic spending cuts come 2013. With the country currently up in arms over those cuts — and how to handle them — a bailout for the Eurozone could come as a nail in the coffin for the president’s campaign for reelection. On the other hand, should Obama extend money to the EU, the Euro could become stabilized and lend to a resurgence of the American dollar.
“Could” is the keyword here.
"The events in Europe obviously have an impact on our economy. It's created a headwind for much of the year … and continues to create that headwind," White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters on Monday. While the administration has acknowledged the impact both domestically and abroad of the crumbling Euro, Obama’s comments this afternoon are only the first to suggest that an intervention by way of the American dollar could be on the way.
"This is something they need to solve and they have the capacity to solve, both financial capacity and political will," Carney adds of today’s summit.
Carney adds that "We do not in any way believe that additional resources are required from the United States and from American taxpayers.”
What, exactly, is the “part” the Obama is “ready to do” to resolve the crisis then?Officially it never was called an "Emergency summit." But with the European... more

Juggle financial products is fraught with complicated at this time: with the sudden thuds and slow wheelies that you have seen in recent times in the stock markets around the world, come at the wrong time or bet on the losing horse can affect the savings of a life . Not to make nonsense, therefore, it is important to know the characteristics of what the market offers equities, bonds, mutual funds, foreign currency, deposit accounts, commodities, ETFs, etc and so on and so forth.
The first thing to consider is what the experts call the "risk appetite" . In short, those who have a solid economic base and is looking for major gains, may decide to take some more risk, while those who do not surf in gold is good to take them into account and addressed to more investment "drawers ". Established willingness to take risks, you can also choose how to divide your portfolio..... more on

When people cannot for some reason govern themselves – they turn to a small group of people to do it for them. They lack the belief in their own abilities to fix something, so they turn to an outside force to level the playing field. The irony here is that the playing field itself was never tilted to begin with. As such, it is the idea that everyon

Everyone works hard not to get cheated out of their fair share. In the past 30 years, due to gains in technology, productivity rose but salaries when adjusted for inflation decreased for the middle class. The extra wealth accumulated at the top 1%. They then use that wealth to influence politicians and get bailouts and all sorts of other favors. When wealth that is concentrated in the hands of a few is one of the main influences in politics then society is no longer a democracy it is a plutocracy. That is what the protest is about. We all work hard and we all want to be treated fairly and we want the rule of law to be restored such that it applies to everyone in society and that the wealthy are not exempt from their actions. Corporations are needed; unethical behavior and corruption aren't needed.Everyone works hard not to get cheated out of their fair share. In the past 30 years,... more

The hyphenated anarchists can be a combative bunch. I’ve done my share of arguing from an Ancap perspective, against sects of the movement I believe wish to achieve freedom- so long as it is done their way. Tired and stale as the news on it may be, the Occupy Movement lends itself well to unification behind a few vital, strategy-related principles for pushing back the state. Libertarian and anarchist circles have reacted to the Movement in a number of ways, ranging from complete dismissal to complete embrace. The implications of the current Movement, which has now spread to Europe, are too large not to take advantage of, but in a measured way. Because the Movement presents an opportuni.......

After breaking $4 a gallon for a short time in may, the steady decline in gas prices over the last five months has come as a breath of fresh air to commuters and consumers everywhere. The current average is hovering around $3.46 a gallon.
In such times it is far too easy to look at the current price and gain false hope in a recovering market. For example in July 2008, gas prices were pushing $4.12 a gallon. In a highly unusual dip the prices fell to nearly $1.60 a gallon in less than 6 months – something that has never happened in at least over 7 years.
Why? Well, the price of light crude on the WTI at the time was at an all time high in July, and made a very sudden decline from $133/barrel monthly average to $41/barrel monthly average in less than 5 months – right before elections. While it was noticeable at the time, it was hardly used then as a political stateme

“I, David P Shirk, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.” – August 8, 1998.
If there is one regret I have had in my lifetime, it was the utterance of those words. My intentions were good, after all, I wanted to protect people and serve them – just as so many I knew and respected who came before me. What I didn’t know at the time was my countries history (great job public school system), and the full actions taken by the government since its founding.
Before 9-11, I started seeing my job as having no real point. I was good at it to be sure, but could not see its use. We were not under attack, and the US seemed to be doing okay without using us. Then 9-11 happened, and everything changed. At first, I was eager to find the people responsible, and go earn my pay. Thank goodness my name was never called up for the task. I never would have thought at the time that the attack on the towers was the result of foreign meddling for the better part of 50 years.
Yet that one event set off a red flag in my head, and it was during that time tha.......

October 7th 2011 will mark the 10 year anniversary of the war in the Middle East. This 10 years of war, has gone on for far too long.
War has a heavy cost, a heavy cost that we don’t think about in our daily busy lives. That cost is your children or your grandchildren dying before their time, being severely injured or mentally scarred for life.
War is your brothers and sisters being taught to kill other people — and to hate people who are just like themselves and who don’t want to kill anyone either.
War is your children seeing their friends killed before their very eyes or seeing their limbs blown off their bodies.
War is genocide; it is hundreds of thousands of human beings dying years before their time.
War is millions of people separated forever from their loved ones.
War is the destruction of homes which people worked for.
War is the end of careers that meant as much to others as your career means to you.
You cannot put a cost on a human life, but the financial cost on war is now running into the trillions of dollars. As illustrated by Cost Of War Dot Com.
War is the imposition of heavy taxes on you, other Americans, and on people in other countries — taxes that remain long after the war is over.
War is the suppression of free speech and the jailing of people who criticize the government.
War is the imposition of slavery when young men and women serve in the military.
War is goading the public to hate foreign people and races.
It is time to end the war and bring the troops home.
If you like the majority of Americans want to end the bombing and occupation of the Middle East.

In the fall of 2008 many Europeans were counting themselves lucky as having, for the most part, escaped the implosion of Wall Street. While there was acknowledgement that the troubles in the United States had tested the stability of European banks, European citizens thought that the finances of their various countries seemed stable.
Still, many in Europe were introduced for first time how financial trouble in a different part of the World could directly effect them. It has taken nearly three years for those first American contagions to cripple the European continent, but despite the slow nature of the death, Europe has found every effort ineffective and the illness inescapable.
As Europe now deals with their own sovereign, financial, and banking crises, it is now the Americans turn to watch and wait. As Europe takes the center stage this fall, understand that just because it's happening "over there", doesn't mean you shouldn't be concerned. Don't make the same mistake Europeans did three years ago and assume that you are unaffected. You are.....or at least, you will be.

*Gordon Brown fears euro crisis worse than Lehman as 1930s beckon*
Gordon Brown has warned that Europe's fast-escalating crisis is now more dangerous than the Lehman Brothers disaster three years ago, threatening to tip the West into a 1930s-style slump unless global leaders work together to take dramatic action.
"The euro can't survive in its present form and will have to be reformed drastically," he told a mostly-Chinese audience at the World Economic Forum in Dalian.

*[Financial] Religious Warfare*
It probably hasn't escaped you that we are entering the next phase of this fine crisis of ours. Those equally fine leaders we've elected to represent us and protect our interests are now almost literally stumbling from one emergency meeting into the other. It doesn't look like Greece can hang on much longer as an EU and Eurozone member without some sort of miraculous intervention.
Well, US Finance Secretary Tim Geithner claims to have the powers of miracle, and he personally brought them to a meeting -an emergency one- in Poland on Friday (where many a European wondered whether he spoke for Washington or for Wall Street, no doubt).
Geithner's big plan is for Europe to take its European Financial Stability Fund, which is projected to be €440 billion by the end of this year, though that is by no means certain, and leverage it about ten-fold to some €4.4 trillion. This, as per Geithner, will calm the markets -and presumably restart economic growth, and job creation, and the housing markets-.
Geithner's perspective is a purely religious one. He has no proof that his idea would work, there is no science that underlies or reinforces it, just a belief system. Nevertheless, ideas like his are very popular, and I for one wouldn't bet against them being unleashed upon us all.

Fear that Greece will default on its debt, perhaps triggering a financial chain reaction that will cause another global recession, hurt European stocks and sent American stocks lower for a time.
