I love this new ad for the Grammys that uses fanvids set to Lady Gaga's "Poker Face." (There's a similarly clever take on the print and online ads at their official site.)
I don't love this just because it's the mark of a great pop song how often it's reinterpreted—this is an amazing example of a major, relatively old-school music institution taking user-created content and transforming it into something that's compelling to watch on its own.
Hmm, sound familiar? Here's an experiment we did with My Morning Jacket to capture a live show using the audience's footage:
Seen any other great examples lately of fan footage being taken to the next level? Drop a comment or an email to shana at current dot com and let me know.

he Forgotten is a project that comes from the heart. In winter of 2008 we were finally able to put together a travel plan and visit the villages of southwestern Iran. The intention of this project was to expose the social issues in those areas and bring awareness towards the economical hardships of the locals.
In order to be able to easily travel in those areas we decided to shoot the documentary guerrilla style, so we packed up a backpack with production essentials (camera, microphones, etc.), and with the help of a few locals shot this film in thirty days.
The Forgotten was mainly shot in the villages or Iran's Chahar Mahal Va Bakhtiari, and Kohgiluyeh Va Bayer Ahmad provinces.

Omg, this is so bad. It's not too shabby for someone with zero experience in video editing, but I promise I'll get better.
P.S. I'm aware of the vast difference between my audio and the audio of the videos. I'm wondering whether I should get a microphone or just fiddle with my downloader settings. Sorry in the meantime!Omg, this is so bad. It's not too shabby for someone with zero experience in... more

The Art House Co-op in ATL, Georgia sent out A LOT of sketchbooks across the country- artists from all over filled them in and 2,700 were sent back! The Art House Co-op is now driving on a cross country art exhibition tour known as The Sketchbook Project III! I got involved in this and it comes to Brooklyn, New York this Friday, March 13 where you can find ME partying it up and talking about art! (3rd Ward Gallery, Brooklyn NY, 11237.) This video takes a look at how I made my sketchbook.
The theme was "Everyone We Know", so I got my friends, some of whom might not normally consider themselves artists, to help me out! I also dedicated the book to my art mentor and grandmother, Emma Davy- March 13 is actually the anniversary of her death, and I couldn't think of a better way to honor her memory than an art show!
If you will be in the NY area come checkity check me out- if not, let me know what you think of the video (it's my first time recording and editing one!) and the sketchbook- you can find a slideshow of all the pages on my blog, deliatheartist.blogspot.com.The Art House Co-op in ATL, Georgia sent out A LOT of sketchbooks across the country-... more

So I see this article, which is linked below, and I'm reading it and it occurs to me that Current.com is nothing like what I'm reading in this article.
Shouldn't this website be more than endless junk news stories? Does anybody else realize that there are over 6,000 links on Current.com. Links to other websites? WTF? Where is the original concept that I'm reading about in this article? Also in the article it talks about Current TV being "viewer created content" Yet at the end it states that only 30% of its content is viewer created. Like, let's be honest, there is no way it's even at 30%.
If the mission was and is about viewer created content, why are we simply linking over 6,000 different stories from the same lame major websites, many of which go unread. It's recycled News. Purely unoriginal. Is endless quantity a good thing?
Viewer created content would mean that we the viewer come up with our own original content, whether in video or print format. We should be writing our own editorials, thoughts and stories, without having to link the same shitty stories that are running on the big news sites.
How do we put an end to over saturated big media, when we ourselves are linking each other to that very thing. In fact unless you link a news story from somewhere else on the web, Current flags your post as non-news and it disappears. WTF? So my own editorial is non-news, but Bill Oreilly is great.
Anyway, just something to think about. Current may flag this as non-news as well, who knows, for some reason they don't like us to talk about them. They would prefer we link each other to other websites and make redundant comments about nothing original. What are your thoughts?

Meditation: A Song and A Prayer for Our Forests - The Sacred Places Series
A slide presentation, with music by Patrick Leonard - A Journey Through The Sierras
Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Park, California
Snapshots from a two day wander through Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Park, California ~ A condensed magical journey through the forest, mountains and waterways.
John Muir described the mighty Sequoia as “nature’s masterpiece”, “the greatest of living things”, a “king tree”, and “the very god of the woods”. There is indeed something otherworldly about sequoia groves along with their companion pines finding their own space and light beneath the shadow of the giant trees!
It is difficult to determine the exact age of the Sequoia, the majestic Grant and Sherman Trees are estimated to be around 3,000 to 3,500 years old. The Grant Tree has the largest known diameter, 28.9 feet at breast height, and about 267 feet tall. The Sherman Tree measured approximately 275 feet tall, 25.1 feet in diameter, a ground perimeter of 102.6 feet, is considered to be the largest living Sequoia, about 10 percent larger volume wise than the Washington Tree, followed by the Grant Tree. Many of the giants are 1,500 to 2,000 years old. The Sequoia’s natural habitat is only in a relatively small area of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, a collective total of around 36,000 to 38,000 acres.
The Music
Patrick Leonard’s exquisite piano improvisations.
The Photography
Snapshots... documenting a moment for the sheer joy and sake of it - one camera, one lens for the most part and taking each moment for what it is, no matter the time of day, light, the situation perfect or imperfect. Remembering magical moments as I appreciate the world I live in, and appreciate our wise ancestors who have left us these legacies of ancient, sacred, mysterious and beautiful places. May future generations also experience the benefit and beauty of our unique, magnificent, and much needed forests.
Sacred Places
to me “sacred place” can be any space that elevates one’s being or awareness to a level beyond that of everyday life. Sacred places can be rendered from forests and waterways, desert rock formations, intentional architectural forms such as the legacies of ancient Egypt constructed by masters of harmony and form, or something more personal that holds significance to the individual.Meditation: A Song and A Prayer for Our Forests - The Sacred Places Series
